Taylor's Port, 1997

Vintage Port

96 Points - Robert Parker
97 Points - Wine Journal

Reviews: "Saturated black/purple-colored, with stunning aromatics of blueberries, blackberries, licorice, and iron, this spectacular vintage port is one of the stars of the vintage. Extremely full-bodied, with silky tannin, spectacular concentration and purity, multiple flavor levels, and an evolved, forward personality, this is an exquisite yet precocious 1997 vintage port. Anticipated maturity: 2004-2030." Robert Parke Wine Advocate, 2000

"A deep black inky core with deep ruby rim. The nose dose not have the definition or the ripeness of the -92 yet it is cut from the same cloth.

Chateau Grand Pontet, 1996

St Emilion

90-91 points outstanding - Robert Parker

"This up and coming St.-Emilion is somewhat under-rated given the consistently high quality of recent vintages. The 1996 is a flamboyant, dark ruby/purple-colored wine with a soaring bouquet of plum liqueur, toasty new oak, black cherries, smoke, and dried herbs. In the mouth, evidence of sur-maturite jamminess and richness emerge from this medium-bodied, rich, spicy, impressively-endowed wine. There is tannin in the medium to full-bodied finish." - RP

D'Oliveiras Madeira, 1996

Malvasia

***Gold Medal-Concours Mondial Bruxelles***
*** 17/20 Jancis Robinson ***

"Ochre/walnut-skin colour. Complex mix of sweetness and bitter mocha. Very sweet and still so fresh. Like liquidised raisins and orange peel in dark caramel." Jancis Robinson

Madeira is made on the volcanic island of the same name situated in the Atlantic ocean some 400 miles off the North Africa coast. The sub-tropical island was discovered in 1419 by Portuguese word for wood or timber. In 1807, John Blandy was posted to the island as part of the British Army garrison sent to Madeira to thwart any invasion attempt by Napoleons forces.

Orange Muscat, 1996

Quady Winery, Essensia Orange Muscat
Half Bottle 37.5cl

Essensia is a full-bodied sweet wine made with Orange Muscat grapes. The experience of Essensia is unmistakable: a rich gold in the glass is accompanied by spicy orange-apricot-pear flavors and aromas, balanced with perfect fruit acidity to finish clean, tempting you for one more sip.

In 1980, Andrew Quady’s discovery of underused Orange Muscat grapes in Reedley, California, led him to make a wine that celebrated the intense aromas and spicy fruit flavors of the grapes. “Essensia” refers to the idea that the wine contains the very essence of the grape. In Italy the variety is known as Moscato Fior d’Arancio: Orange Blossom Muscat.

Ryst-Dupeyon Armagnac, 1995

Ryst Dupeyron Reserve Joseph Millesime vintage Armagnac
50cl bottle

The 1995 Dupeyron Armagnac is the expression of a single year and has a unique character associated with the year and the cask in which it has been stored. These vintages are bottled at the alcohol level in which they naturally come out of the cask. There is a wonderful contrast between the sweet and sour flavours of wood, amplified by the strong alcoholic degree. Rich palate feeling the alcohol and the concentration of dry plums, spicy with persistent flavour of rancio and of spices, but round, soft and long in the finish. The tannins are very present, but full-bodied and round.

The Maison Ryst-Dupeyon was founded by Joseph Dupeyron in 1905.

Chateau Haut Brion, 1995

Pessac Leognan 1er Grand Cru Classe

*** 96 Points Robert Parker ***

Reviews
96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
It is fun to go back and forth between the 1995 and 1996, two superb vintages for Haut-Brion. The 1995 seems to have sweeter tannin and a bit more fat and seamlessness when compared to the more structured and muscular 1996. Certainly 1995 was a vintage that the brilliant administrator Jean Delmas handled flawlessly. The result is a deep ruby/purple-colored wine with a tight but promising nose of burning wood embers intermixed with vanilla, spice box, earth, mineral, sweet cherry, black currant, plum-like fruit, medium to full body, a high level of ripe but sweet tannin, and a finish that goes on for a good 40-45 seconds.

Domaine Du Grand Mayne, 1995

Late Harvest Semillion, Cotes de Duras
50cl Bottles

When conditions allow Domaine du Grand Maynes produces some special wines. The Late Harvest Sémillon is a dessert style wine made from 100% Sémillon grapes. Fermentation was conducted in 100% new French oak barrels and the wine was aged for an additional 9 months in the barrel prior to its release. Intense aromas of dried apricots, peaches and hints of pineapple on the nose complimented by delicate honey flavours on the pallet. The wine is full, but not cloyingly sweet due to the crisp acidity and it finishes with a long lingering aftertaste.

Chateau Grand Puy Lacoste, 1994

Pauillac 5th Growth Classification

*** 90 Points - Robert Parker ***

"Grand-Puy-Lacoste is the drinker's Pauillac. It is not an investment wine (having been largely forgotten by the trophy hunters and investors looking to make a quick buck), although certain vintages (1982 and 1990) have tripled in price. Grand-Puy-Lacoste, usually loaded with character and personality, has enjoyed three fine vintages in 1993-95, with each of these years under-priced for such quality. The 1994 has turned out to be an outstanding effort for this estate. The wine reveals even more flesh than it did prior to bottling, as well as the high tannin that marks many of this vintage's wines.

Graham's Port, 1994

Vintage Port

96 Points (parker)

Reviews: "In a port tasting, tasting Graham's is almost like tasting a big, rich, succulent Merlot after a group of blockbuster, tannic Cabernets. Sweeter and more obvious than many ports, the opaque purple-colored 1994 is fruity, powerful, and rich, with an addictive hedonistic quality. It will be ready to drink in 8-10 years and keep for up to 30. As always, this is a showy, flamboyant port that has the advantage of being slightly sweeter than other 1994s. A great Graham's. Anticipated maturity: 2002-2035." Parker Wine Advocate 1996

Inferno, 1994

Nino Negri

Inferno is one of five viticultural sub-zones specifically identified as producing Valtellina wines of particularly high quality: the other four are Grumello, Sassella, Maroggia and Valgella. Inferno means 'hell' in Italian, and refers to the slopes between Sondrio town and the village of Tresivio. Although DOC laws do not explain the origins of this name, it has been suggested that in summer the slopes here get noticeably hotter than the rest of the valley. Just across Sondrio to the west is Sassella, the finest of the Valtellina sub-zones.

Taylor's Port, 1994

Vintage Port

Reviews:
100 Points – Wine Spectator
"In a word, superb. It's full-bodied, moderately sweet and incredibly tannic, but there's amazing finesse and refinement to the texture, not to mention fabulous, concentrated aromas of raspberries, violets and other flowers. Perhaps the greatest Taylor ever, it's better than either the '92 or the '70, though it's very like the '70 in structure."

This classically made, opaque purple-coloured wine is crammed with black fruits (blueberries and cassis). It reveals high tannin and a reserved style, but it is enormously constituted with massive body, a formidable mid-palate, and exceptional length.

Chateau Ducru Beaucaillou, 1993

St Julien, 2eme Growth Classification

The Chateau Ducru Beaucaillou is one of the Medoc's more successful wines, the 1993 has reached full maturity. It exhibits a dark ruby/purple color, and a moderately attractive nose of minerals and jammy cranberry fruit intermixed with black currants. In the mouth, this wine has lost its baby fat, revealing medium body, and an elegant, measured personality. Pure, with well-integrated tannin, this is a stylish, graceful Ducru-Beaucaillou."

St. Magdalener, 1993

St. Michael

St. Magdalena is an area covering the lower, south-facing slopes above Bozen-Bolzano. The “Kienaster” vineyard where this particular wine comes from is situated near the village of St. Pauls. It is made from the Vernatsch-Schiava grape and a very small proportion of Lagrein. The extremely favourable climatic conditions combined with very steep vineyards result in a dark ruby wine, finely scented, soft and velvety on the palate.
