Quinta Do Infantado, 1985

Vintage Port

Deep, almost opaque, ruby in colour, with ripe cherries, plums and dark chocolate perfumes on the nose. On the palate the wine is rich and sweet, but beautifully balanced by well-integrated tannins and a chocolate, plum and savoury cherry fruit. The finish is clean and smooth, with fine, delicate perfumes of warm, ripe fruit.

Sandeman Vintage Port, 1985

Sale

Vintage Port
Special Offer | Was 89.95 | now £64.95

"Sandeman is one of the biggest and most conspicuous of the port houses, with extensive interests in the sherry business as well. They advertise significantly and their products are well-represented in virtually every American marketplace. The quality is quite good given the quantity of wine produced...The 1985 has less of a deep-ruby/purple color, but it does offer a spice-box, fruitcake sort of aroma, mildly sweet, medium- to full-bodied flavors, and a ripe, tasty finish. Not a heavyweight, this wine represents a lighter style of vintage port. (1/ 1989) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Wine Spectator
Elegant and balanced, but a little short on concentration.

Vintage Port
Labels Damaged and bin soiled
Clearance | Was £89 | Now £65

From the outstanding 1985 Vintage
Reviews: "Lovely orange skins nose, together with nuts and figs. On the palate, it has finesse, elegance and such a sweet kickback. Massively enchanting and, now it is over the magic 20 years, perfection to drink."
Serena Sutcliffe , Cuisine & Wine Asia 2008

Very very dark. Sweet, spicy, liquorice nose. Very broad start to the palate and then dried fruits on the finish. Lots of firm tannins still. Still relatively embryonic. Heat on the finish. Lovely spice on the finish. Not the most stereotypically feminine Warre style of wine. Powerful finish. Almost brawny with some wild fruit and flower flavours on the nose.

Barros Port, 1983

Vintage Port - in own presentation box

The Barros 1983 Vintage Port is a beautifully mature port ready for drinking now.

The Barros 1983 Vintage Port is a ruby coloured port wine with some tawny at the edges. On the nose it reveals an intense aroma with notes of wild berries, chocolate and figs. A traditional style of port, a little drier than most, it is full-bodied port with some heat from the alcohol making it a little angular. However, the tannins are soft and the wine has a long finish. Very good. 89/100 VWP tasting.

Churchill's Port, 1983

Quinta do Agua Alta

Despite its thoroughly traditional-sounding name Churchill is the newest of the British-owned Port companies, founded in 1981 by J. Graham.

Quinta Agua Alta is named after the spring at the top of the vineyard and it produces wonderfully pure and fresh water that bubbles up through the granite rock below the thin top soil. Olives and figs grow in abundance around the vineyard which produces a quite stunninly powerful port.

Deep purple in colour with a mass of soft and concentrated fruit. There's plenty of tannin to give structure and a pleasing earthiness on the finish. This is the perfect way to round off a good dinner.

Fonseca Port, 1983

Vintage Port

An outstanding Port rating 92/100 from an outstanding vintage. Robert Parker writes of this port... "Fonseca is one of the great port lodges, producing the most exotic and most complex port. If Fonseca lacks the sheer weight and power of a Taylor, Dow or Warre, or the opulent sweetness and intensity of a Graham, it excels in its magnificently complex, intense bouquet of plummy, cedary, spicy fruit and long, broad, expansive flavors. With its lush, seductive character, one might call it the Pomerol of Vintage ports. When it is young, it often loses out in blind tastings to the heavier, weightier, more tannic wines, but I always find myself upgrading my opinion of Fonseca after it has had 7-10 years of age.

Kopke Port, 1983

Vintage Port

This is one of those noses where you can keep going back and finding things you think it smells like. I really like that. A bit punchy initially with it's alcohol, the finish is where this wine really shines. Starts off as fresh popcorn, turning hazelnuts and honey, then granola and brown sugar..... off into a 40-second long finish with various evolution in which I am sure different people would find different things. Truly delicious. This wine is very, very good. I love it when a wine forces you to think about it, and this does just that. Captivating, complex, intense and delicious.

Niepoort Port, 1983

Vintage Port

"Niepoort is to Vintage Port what Krug is to Champagne. They are both small houses in a world dominated by large competitors but they are producing outstanding wines which very few can match." (James Suckling, Vintage Port).

Niepoort is a family company now in its fifth generation and presently managed by Dirk Niepoort. Despite being the second smallest shippers in the trade they are second to none in quality. Already famous for their classic tawny ports, they have now joined the ranks of the great producers of Vintage Port.

Vintage Port must be bottled within two years of the harvest date and be 100 per cent wine from that harvest.

Chateau Branaire-Ducru, 1982

St Julien, 4th Growth Classification

Scoring and impressive 92 Points, Robert Parker writes of this wine... "A strong effort for this estate, the 1982 exhibits sweet aromas of plums, licorice, earth, and flowers. The tannins are slightly rustic, but the sweetness of the fruit, the broad expansive mouthfeel, and the wine’s full maturity represent a classic Bordeaux at the top of its game. Enjoy it over the next 5-8 years." Wine Advocate 2009

Dolomore Port, 1982

Vintage Port

The 1982 Dolomore Vintage Port is impressively deep red in colour; opaque. Gentle nose bringing a bit of dusty cherry. The lovely thick texture that is starting to seem typical of the vintage. Fresh fruit on the palate, good levels of acidity keeping the freshness and an interesting sage-leaf twist. Medium-bodied, modest in intensity and still quite acidic. Nice aftertaste, with a big flaring finish that has lots of cherry and green wood tannins. Fine port..

Dom Perignon, 1982

Champagne

*** 96 Points Robert Parker ***

"Dark gold in color with a slow stream (I don't know if I would even characterize it as a stream) of tiny bubbles. Aromas of brioche, caramel, honey and flowers. Rich and round on the palate with caramel, rye bread and baked apple notes, but with very nice acidity to keep it elegantly balanced. Wonderful length -- quite a pleasure overall." Morgan Port, 1982

Vintage Port

The Morgan 1982 Vintage Port is an unusual find as there are very few notes on this wine.

In 2016 AHB of the Port Forum wrote of this wine
"Dark honey brown in colour, slightly hazy in appearance. Very little on the nose with hints of apricot and tangerine, oxidised. Smooth and soft in texture with barley sugar on the palate, with a gentle bitterness. Good acidity giving a pleasant lime and grapefruit undertone to the sugaryness. The lime, grapefruit and some hyacinth grows on the palate. The aftertaste is peppery with a long lime zest finish that is bitter and intense. Very long. A much better port than expected based on the appearance.

Taylor's Port, 1982

Quinta de Terra Feita Vintage Port
Bin soiled labels.

Quinta de Terra Feita is bottled as a single quinta vintage port in years when an overall Taylor’s Vintage is not declared. Made from grapes grown entirely on the quinta the wine is aged in wood for two years and then bottled in the same way as a declared vintage.

The reputation of these wines have acquired a stature greater than that of many shippers declared vintages. Usually maturing earlier than the declared Taylor’s years, which are famed for their longevity, Quinta de Terra Feita vintage ports are cellared in Oporto until they are ready to drink.

1981 Taittinger, 1981

Vintage Champagne Arman Label

Amongst Champagne's luxury cuveés and super-premium labels, Taittinger's wines live on one extreme end of the style spectrum.
While many top Champagnes can be quite difficult to approach in their youth, with laser-like focus and delineation, even austerity, Taittinger instead tends to be immediately open and welcoming. These are beautiful, delicious Champagnes, with bubbles lazily winding their way up to the surface, inviting you to take another sip.

1980 D' Oliveiras Madeira, 1980

Boal Madeira

Madeira is a complex, interesting wine and is made in virtually every vintage. Due to the unique estufagem aging process Madeira is one of the longest-lived wines and also improves for days after opening, but will keep, once opened, for a month and more in a decanter.

Medium orange amber color with 1 millimeter clear meniscus; appealing, light coffee, almond, reminiscent of Moroccan bastilla on the nose with a hint of passion fruit; tight, silky textured, tasty, balanced, rounded, tart orange, tart passion fruit palate with a vague sense of light salt; long finish.

Porta dos Cavaleiros, Dao
Special Offer Was £69 | Now £49

Caves S. Joao, established in 1920, became a dominant force in Portuguese wine making in the early 20th century with their houses Porta dos Cavaleiros in Dao and Frei Joao in Bairrada. Given the shifting trends in consumer preferences, Bairrada and Dao fell to obscurity in the 1990s when critical influence drove the demand for bigger, extracted, warmer climate wines. As in all things, however, what comes around goes around! Sure enough, 20 years later savvy consumers and food-conscious sommeliers are looking for finesse and freshness and heading back to Bairrada and Dao. Wines that when young had a vegetal character,

Blandys Madeira, 1980

Terrantez Madeira 37.5cl HALF BOTTLE
Includes Own Box

Blandy’s Terrantez 1980

Review bySarah Ahmed "The Wine Detective". "I’m a huge Terrantez fan and this one ticks all the right boxes. Smooth on the nose with a smooze of light caramel and sweet café crème. A lick of tobacco herbality – greener – lends appetising lift. The saliva glands are at work already! And so it is in the mouth – almost creamy on entry, yet penetrating too thanks to its lively, very persistent backbone of acidity. Delicate staccato spices and a lick of toffee apple seduce. That bottled electricity, v.a. accelerant fires up a super long, reverberating finish, its delicious woody, mellow timbre deftly leavened by that light, herbal riff.
