Messias Port, 1965

Quinta Cachao Vintage Port

A very rare bottle of Vintage Port from the good 1965 Vintage - these are the only bottles available in the UK and are a true rarity. Unlike the colheita ports from the same year, this wine has aged in the bottle for nearly 50 years (As opposed to a barrel). It is among the rarest category of ports and is a delight for the port connoisseur.

The 1965 Vintage has a medium intensity - amber with a hint of orange. On the nose the wine is clean, med to pronounced intensity, dried fruits, caramel - grenadine, grilled nuts (hazelnut / almond). Sweet, med+ acidity that keeps it fresh and well balanced, full body, pronounced intensity, and superb length.

Chateau Mouton Rothschild, 1964

Pauillac Premiere Grand Cru Classe (Henry Moore label)

- From magnum: Surprisingly good as I was not expecting much based on drinking other disappointing 1964 Bordeaux over the years. However, HS fill with pretty good cork was in beautiful shape. Color was brick red and showed nice tart cherries and fresh earthy aromas. The flavor profile showed reasonable concentration and while a bit earthy and a tad acidic, was full of dried red fruits and wonderful spices. While tannins were fully resolved the acid kept this reasonably fresh and inviting. A nice long rustic earthy finish kept me coming back for more.

Egri Bikaver, 1964

Monimpex

Egri Bikavér is THE red blend produced in Eger, Hungary. It is the true essence of the red wines of Eger, a terroir wine, which carries the flavour of the soils of local production sites, the mezzo-climate unique to the region and the traditions and mores of local residents, from the selection of grape varieties to choosing the time and method of processing and maturing. The exact date of the emergence of Egri Bikavér is shrouded in mystery. One thing is certain; the word Bikavér (Bull’s Blood) was recorded as early as the beginning of the 19th century. Under the name Bikavér, full-bodied red wines were sold, not only in Eger and Szekszárd but other places as well.

Valtellina, 1964

Villa Valtelina

Valtellina is one of Italy’s most dramatic wine regions, located in Lombardy, the vineyards are located on steep mountains. The principal grape variety is Chiavennasca (the local name for Piedmont’s Nebbiolo and an Italian grape varietal that has been cultivated since medieval times here). The DOCG wines are generally comprised of at least 90% Chiavennasca and then blended with other quality local grapes like Brugnola, Rossola, Pignola. Then there is a DOC Valtellina Rosso (also called Rosso di Valtellina DOC) which requires at least 80% of the blend be Chiavennasca and does not have minimum ageing requirements.

Chateau Yquem, 1963

Sauternes 1er Grand Cru Classe

We quote from the tasting notes of greatbordeauxwines.com tasting in 2005:-
"Château d’Yquem 1963 87 points
Tasted in April 2005. Brown like cola. Aromas of mocca, burnt coffee beans and caramel. It had some sweetness on the palate but very little of noble rot. This was light and well-balanced wine with fine aftertaste."

Vintage Port Plain Label
Level in neck

Power, dimension and character are all hallmarks of this most memorable Vintage. Even after many years, the Graham’s 1963 never fails to impress, with its superbly balanced components of fruit, tannin and elegance. This wine conveys rose-petal aromas and the flavours of concentrated and caramelised fruit are in perfect balance. A legend in the history of Port.

"What a stunning 1963 vintage port this is! The bouquet draws you in, does not drag you in with its alcohol and reveals a fresh, well defined nose with a nutty edge, hints of cigar box and allspice. The palate is beautifully balanced,

Ryst-Dupeyon Armagnac, 1963

Ryst Dupeyron

The 1966 Dupeyron Armagnac is the expression of a single year and has a unique character associated with the year and the cask in which it has been stored. These vintages are bottled at the alcohol level in which they naturally come out of the cask. There is a wonderful contrast between the sweet and sour flavours of wood, amplified by the strong alcoholic degree. Rich palate feeling the alcohol and the concentration of dry plums, spicy with persistent flavour of rancio and of spices, but round, soft and long in the finish. The tannins are very present, but full-bodied and round.

1962 Dom Perignon

Champagne

"Light pale gold, deeper through the sides, glass served after poured, very little effervescence in this sample. Indelible aroma above the glass, delicate, floral and fragrant. Long, long, long and quite alive. Evolves over the course of an hour - calling everything from lemon curd to citron creme on a biscuit, and even a hint of piña. Fascinating and captivating. Beautiful wine. After an hour, a lilting caramelization rounded off this gorgeous glass. Pour it, taste it, and if you can wait an hour, you will not believe you are drinking champagne." Chateau d'Issan, 1961

Margaux 3me Cru Classe

From the great 1961 vintage, this wine still has a quite dark colour with a moderate amount of age showing
around the rim. The bouquet is a little earthy at first but reveals some complexity. The taste is much better than the bouquet reavealing some typical cassis fruit and medium length finish.

Château Montrose is located in the east of St Estèphe (the northern most of the great Médoc communes), just north of the hamlet of Marbuzet, on a gravel knoll only 800 metres from the Gironde estuary. As far as the great wines of Bordeaux go Château Montrose is somewhat of a youngster having been founded in 1815. However this beautiful vineyard has produced one of Bordeaux's most consistent and respected wines for over 150 years. It is considered to be one of the top St Estèphe's and is known as the “Latour of St Estèphe”.

Baron de Sigognac, 1960

Armagnac (Comes in original Sigognac Box as illustrated)

The company behind this Armagnac owns one of the most important stocks of old vintages in the whole region. They are growers as well as distillers and specialise in sourcing and ageing old casks of Armagnac.

The Armagnac is made from a blend of Baco and Ugni Blanc, the predominant grapes used in the production of Armagnac. The distillation takes place in a column still to an alcohol strength of about 54%. The spirit is then aged in local black oak casks. The alcohol content then reduces naturally to about 40% after about forty years.
