Chateau Lafite Rothschild, 2009

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe,

*** 99+ Points Robert Parker ***

Reviews:
The main reason the 2009 Lafite Rothschild did not receive a perfect score is because the wine has closed down slightly, but it is unquestionably another profound Lafite, their greatest wine since the amazing 2003. Among the most powerful Lafites ever made (it came in at 13.59% alcohol), the final blend was 82.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot and the rest Petit Verdot. The selection was incredibly severe with only 45% of the crop being utilized. A tight, but potentially gorgeous nose of graphite, black currants, licorice and camphor is followed by a full-bodied wine revealing the classic elegance, purity and delineated style of Lafite.

Kopke Port

10 year old Tawny Port

Reviews
Attractive brown-tawny colour, with amber halo. Elegant and complex, presents spicy aromas, standing-out the dried fruits and the elegant notes of wood and honey. Smooth and round in the taste, shows its complexity upon the essence of intense dried fruits flavours. Excellent finish.

Bronze Medal at the 2015 International Wine Challenge

Nutty aromas are followed by a soft and sweet style of wine. It has just enough acidity and wood aging to keep it vibrant. Sweet fruits and molasses flavors give a smooth, attractive and fresh wine.

Chateau Lafite Rothschild, 2008

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe,

*** 98 Points Robert Parker ***

Reviews:
"A candidate for the -wine of the vintage,- the 2008 should have been purchased before it began to soar in value because of the significance of the number 8 in the Chinese culture (denoting good luck). Representing 40% of the production, this blend of 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc offers aromas of high quality unsmoked cigar tobacco, lead pencil shavings, creme de cassis, earth, cedar and asphalt. Full, rich and stunningly concentrated, I doubt it is inferior to the 2010, just more classic as well as slightly more forward and a degree weaker in alcoholic potency (12.5% versus 13.

Chateau Margaux, 2008

Margaux Premiere Grand Cru Classe

Reviews
This is a stunning Chateau Margaux, made in a sexy, up-front, elegant style, with deep creme de cassis fruit intermixed with spring flowers, a solid inner core of richness and depth, but again, very sweet tannins as well as striking minerality and elegance. One of the most seductive Chateau Margauxs given its recent bottling, this blend of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, and the rest tiny quantities of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot should drink beautifully for the next 25-30 years. Remarkably, a mere 36% of the entire production was selected for the 2008 Chateau Margaux.

Chateau Yquem, 2008

Sauternes 1er Cru Classe (in Yquem Case)

*** 96 Points - e robert Parker ***

Reviews
The 2008 Yquem, now in bottle, has a nuanced bouquet, with scents of clear honey, lime flower, vanilla and orange blossom that is beautifully defined. The palate is very harmonious on the entry, with a fine thread of acidity, tense and full of energy like the 2010 tasted alongside, with notes of white peach, citrus lemon, clear honey and a hint of quince. Long and persistent on the finish, this is a very fine Yquem that might be over-looked between the 2007 and 2009, but is a superb Sauternes in its own right. Chateau Lafite Rothschild, 2007

*** 94 Points - Robert parker ***

Reviews:
"A candidate for the wine of the vintage, the 2007 Lafite Rothschild (84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, and 1% Petit Verdot) reveals classic Lafite aromas of graphite, unsmoked cigar tobacco, black currants, cherries, and a hint of truffles. The complex aromatics are followed by a round, medium to full-bodied wine with silky tannins, an overall subtle smoky component, and a rich, round, generous, plump finish. Already evolved and delicious, it should continue to drink well for two decades." Erobertparker.com

Barros Port, 2006

Colheita Port (Includes dark mocha leather effect silk lined box as illustrated)

Amber colour with a bouquet reminiscent of dried fruits and spice. Soft and velvety on the palate with a lingering finish.

Colheita, or single harvest ports, are aged in the barrel. Contrast this with vintage ports which are aged in the bottle and only have a short drinking window after opening. Colheita ports have had air working on them through the cask during all the years of aging, giving them a open-life of a month or longer. Lighter and more delicate than vintage ports, the colheita ports are immediately understandable and enjoyable to the novice port drinker and an on-going pleasure to the experienced.

Chateau Pichon-Longueville, Baron, 2006

Pauillac 2eme Cru Classe

*** 92 Points Robert Parker ***
Closed but promising, this is a tannic, masculine style of wine in 2006, with an inky bluish/purple colour as well as aromas of incense, charcoal, smoked meats, and the classic creme de cassis that one finds in the top Pauillacs. The aromatics are still retrained, but the wine is full-bodied in the mouth, tannic, backward, and set for a relatively long life. This is not one of the profound wines from Pichon Longueville Baron, but it is certainly a top-flight success for the vintage. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2028.

The 110-hectare vineyard is planted with 80% Sémillon and 20% Sauvignon Blanc. Betsek Tokaji 6 Puttonyos Aszu

Luminous apricot tawny. Apricots and dust and velours on the palate. Very bracing and zesty and one of the first wines in this tasting I have been tempted to swallow. Obviously very high quality. Jancis Robinson

Royal Tokaji now owns 16 hectares of this long established vineyard. Situated to the south east of Mád in Hungary, it produces lusciously refreshing wines that are always in demand. Betsek’s black volcanic topsoil contributes to the mineral and lovely black pepper characters in the wine. Apricot and honey predominate. Betsek is an old Magyar family name and this vineyard produces consistently balanced aszu wines.

Chateau Lafite Rothschild, 2004

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe,

Only 39% of production was used for the Grand Vin and with a whopping 90.5% Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend (the balance being 9% Merlot and 0.5% Petit Verdot) the 2004 Lafite needed little introduction. This wine has one of the most exciting noses - intense, spicy, pure cassis and a generous helping of creamy vanilla. The palate is just as exciting, exhibiting terrific concentration and a hint of warm new oak which leads to an intense, linear core of lively blackcurrants and layers of intriguing minerality. The Cabernet was very evident on the finish with the variety's characteristically firm tannins taking over at the end, making this one for the long term.

Only 1100 Cases made in 2004. The 2004 Vesuvio has an opaque, inky purple colour. *** 94 Points - e robert Parker ***

Ch. d'Yquem reported 2003 as the hottest year since 1896, the previous hottest being the 1976 which provided a superb wine with excellent botrytis which is now showing at its best. Ch. d'Yquem conclude their report: "This unusual vintage will no doubt remain a benchmark for many years to come. An extraordinary summer, "total" botrytis, and the sacrifice of part of the estate made it possible to harvest grapes with optimum fruit and and concentration thanks to unusually clean botrtization."
