Tuscan wine (Italian Toscana) is Italian wine from the Tuscany region. Located in central Italy along the Tyrrhenian coast, Tuscany is home to some of the world's most notable wine regions. Refosco, 1969

Tenuta Angoris - Riserva

Refosco is a very old Italian family of dark-skinned grape varieties native to the northern Italian and neighbouring areas of Friuli, Gavi, Trentino,Istria, and Karst Plateau. It is considered autochthonous in these regions. The wines this grape yields can be quite powerful and tannic, with a deep violet color and a slight bitterness. On the palate, there are strong currant, wild berry and plum flavors. The wine can stand some aging.

Spanna, 1969

Berteletti - Riserva

Spanna has often been cited by wine experts as one of Italy’s greatest ageing wines. Spanna’s longevity can be attributed, at least in part, to the addition of smaller amounts of less tannic, more acidic grape varieties. Tasting notes: The nose opens up beautifully after about an hour and the wine has gorgeous ripe and sweet fruit, nice acidity, and perfectly softened tannins.

Chateau Latour, 1967

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe - Level base of in neck

***18.5/20 Jancis Robinson***
***92 Points-CellarTracker***

Reviews
Magnum . For me, the star of the evening. So complete, so much at the height of its powers, so dense yet fresh.I couldn't help thinking of that ad for menthol cigarettes - 'pure as mountain stream' was the slogan, wasn't it? Sweet and richly flattering without being remotely heavy. It's possible that in bottle sizes this wine is much more developed. Jancis Robinson

"Unquestionably the best wine produced in the Medoc in 1967, the Latour has dark ruby color with some browning at the edges, a medium- to full-bodied feel, plenty of black currant fruit, and some light, soft tannins still present.

Special Offer | Was £295 | Now £190

Chateau Mouton Rothschild, one of the most famous wines in the world! A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The 1967 Mouton has on the nose "Plum, Wild Berry, Leather, Library Books and Spice. Palate: Very nice density for its age with an elegant approach. Very silky and well resolved palate that offered fading fruit of black cherry and plum with nice but muted secondary notes of leather, tobacco and some sweet herbs.

Cotes du Rhone, 1966

Antonin Rodet

Côtes du Rhône is a huge appellation in the south of France encompassing 40,300 ha. Plenty of white and rosé wine is produced in Côtes du Rhône but there can be no doubt that red is king. Usually Grenache will dominate the blend (except in the north where Syrah is allowed to be top dog, but these wines are relatively few) and is normally partnered with Syrah and/or Mourvèdre but a further 18 varieties are also permitted! A cheerful example might be light, soft, fruity and easy-drinking, while the finest examples may be full-bodied, concentrated, intense, spicy and ageworthy. But what they all invariably have in common is a fabulous sense of place and lashings of personality and character.

"This is an extraordinary house that seems to have been particularly successful with its vintage port since 1977. The 1966 is a top success for that vintage; in fact, it would be hard to find a better port from that year." Robert Parker, Wine Buyer Guide.

Graham's Port, 1966

Vintage Port

Graham's is a great port house, producing one of the deepest-coloured and sweetest styles of vintage port. Along with Taylor's and Fonseca, Graham's has probably been the most consistent producer of great port in the post- World War II era. Their vintage ports are truly sublime and sumptuous. The 1966 is full, vigorous, rich and classy on the palate. Not too sweet. This is a big concentrated, very fine example. Bags of life ahead of it.

Nebbiolo, 1966

Bersano - Riserva

The Nebbiolo has a lovely earthy bouquet. The nose has cherries, dark cherries, tar and slight dried rose notes. Complex and layered. Nice acidity. Medium tannins still present. Cherries on the palate too. Nice finish. Great food wine. Nebbiolo is a fickle grape famed as much for its pale appearance as for its tannic character and produces some of the most perfumed and richly flavored wines. Though generally only medium-bodied, the wines possess rose and anise scented aromatics and deep flavors of cherry, orange peel and subtle green herb tones.

1964 Inferno

Enologica Valtelinese
Special Offer | Was £119 | Now £67.97

Inferno is one of five viticultural sub-zones specifically identified as producing Valtellina wines of particularly high quality: the other four are Grumello, Sassella, Maroggia and Valgella. Inferno means 'hell' in Italian, and refers to the slopes between Sondrio town and the village of Tresivio. Although DOC laws do not explain the origins of this name, it has been suggested that in summer the slopes here get noticeably hotter than the rest of the valley. Just across Sondrio to the west is Sassella, the finest of the Valtellina sub-zones.

Chateau Haut Bailly, 1964

Graves Grand Cru Classe - damaged label

The red wines of Château Haut-Bailly are considered to be amongst the best of Pessac-Léognan. Traditional vinification of the fruit of old vines gives wines that can be rather austere in their youth, but which have a marvellous ability to age. Consistently top quality and excellent value for money.

Cockburn Port, 1963

Vintage Port

"Perfectly integrated and showing cherry, raspberry, baker's spices and hints of fig on the nose and palate. With air the fruit became more plummy in character and picked up more complex dried fruit notes. It's sweet, but not Graham's or Fonseca sweet and there's actually some nice acidity to the wine that keeps it fresh. Seamless with the alcohol sewn into the fabric of the wine nicely." Cellar Tracker 2012

'Bright ruby red. Full rich red chocolate spicy aroma. Ripe rich round slightly hot fruit on the palate'. Cellar Tracker tasted 2005.
Rating 94/100 (CT)

Graham's Port, 1963

Vintage Port (Oporto Labels)

The Graham’s 1963 Vintage Port never fails to impress, with its superbly balanced components of fruit, tannin and elegance. This wine conveys rose-petal aromas and the flavours of concentrated and caramelised fruit are in perfect balance. A legend in the history of Port. Power, dimension and character are all hallmarks of this most memorable Vintage.

"What a stunning 1963 vintage port this is! The bouquet draws you in, does not drag you in with its alcohol and reveals a fresh, well defined nose with a nutty edge, hints of cigar box and allspice. The palate is beautifully balanced, understated on the entry but building all the time, flashes of eucalyptus leading towards a more extrovert, clove tinged finish that hangs around the palate.

Review "Mid-orange colour, slightly cloudy. Little on the nose, perhaps a touch of VA. Sweet entry, with a lovely balancing acidity. Lots of smokey orange and a slight dry edge - even some tannin! A wine that becomes mouthfilling and develops nicely on the palate. Big finish; dry, fruity and full of marmalade. A lovely wine. 88/100. AHB" The Port Forum.

Sandeman Vintage Port, 1963

Vintage Port

** 96/100 - Wine Spectator **

One of the great vintages of the century, and one of the best wines ever released by Sandeman. Classic aromas of figs and prunes, powerful, rich and sweet, with tremendous length.

Reviews:
"This may be one of the most underrated '63s made. Its deep red color gives little indication of the wine's age, and there is an abundance of youthful, rich fruit on the nose and palate. Full tannins and an assertive finish back up everything." 96/100 James Suckling, The Wine Spectator

The 1963 Sandeman has less of a deep-ruby/purple colour, but it does offer a spice-box, fruitcake sort of aroma, mildly sweet, medium- to full-bodied flavours, and a ripe, tasty finish.
