Barolo, 1962

Bersano - Riserva Speciale

Barolo is known as the 'king of wines' and is made from the Nebbiolo grape. Heady aromas of rose, leather, vanilla, cherry, pepper, cranberry, strawberry. Fruits are perfectly knitted with the tannins and acidity. It's a powerful wine but remarkably subtle. Don't underestimate it and certainly serve it with food to show at it's best. Nebbiolo has naturally high tannins and acidity, so it will take on full-flavoured, rich foods no problem at all.

This 1960 Cockburn Port is quite a full-bodied, rich, alcoholic, spirited vintage port that offers meaty, chocolatey, spicy, full-bodied, alcoholic flavours. A medium bodied taste of ripe dates with a dash of spirit and a fantail finish lasting a good while. This grand port was alive and delivering pleasure. Thank you Cockburn's for the treat. 89/100 (Nicos Neocleous, UK)" UK Wine Forum.

Spanna, 1957

F.lli Berteletti - Riserva

Spanna has often been cited by wine experts as one of Italy’s greatest ageing wines. Sherry, 1951

New

Harvey's No. 2 Medium/Amoroso Sherry
Bottled in 1951 - Level Low Shoulder

This amoroso sherry wine, was bottled in 1951. An intense sherry that balances sweet and bitter notes with hints of nuts and oranges.

A touch of Pedro Ximénez added to a dry oloroso results in this type of sherry known as “amoroso.” Translated into English as loving or affectionate, the name pays tribute to the smoothness obtained during the lengthy and traditional ageing period. Its alcohol content and body mean that it can be served on the rocks.

Serving Suggestion:
Enjoy around 15 degrees Celsius with blue cheese or desserts.

1949 Cantine Antonio Ferrari, 1949

Il 49 di Antonio Ferrari Special offer was £195 | Now only £139

The Il Barone ‘49 shows a deep garnet colour. For something so old it is still fresh with a touch of oxidation on notes of black cherries, chocolate and espresso infused with sweet spices. The wine has a long finish. This is a wine from the 1949 wine harvest. Fermentation was arrested before complete leaving a high residual sugar content which has preserved the wine. The wine then went into large old Slovenian casks for ten years and then stored in tanks where it has remained until bottling this year. Antonio Ferrari was a wine merchant and negociant in Piedmont who in the mid-20th century developed an interest in the grapes of Puglia.

The wine of Chateau Latour is an example of consistent excellence, no matter the vintage. Firm, tannic and concentrated in its youth, it needs a long cellaring to reveal all of its profoundness, strength and extraordinary richness. At perfect maturity, the wine distinguishes itself by an incredible bouquet of black currant, hazelnut and leather.

Burmester Port, 1937

Colheita Port

This is a Colheita Port of exceptional quality and elegance. Burmester make their colheita ports from a single harvest. These "Vintage Tawny" ports are aged in small 550-litre oak barrels in the Vila Nova de Gaia Cellars. It is bottled at least seven years after aging.

Dark maple colour with an amber tinge. Notes of leather, cedar and crème brûlée revealed a sublime nose as this continued to evolve in glass. Rich and soft with a sexy elegance, the Burmester showed a sweet and full-bodied style which was better on the palate. By the time I reached the end of my glass, this ‘37 had fully assuaged any concerns I had initially.

Taylor's Port, 1855

Scion - Very Old Vintage Port
