Blandys, 1826
Boal Solera 1826
1826: the year Thomas Jefferson, wine enthusiast, passed away. On 5 April, 2014, noted Madeira specialist Richard Mason wrote of this wine: “One of a set of solera wines released in the 1950s and 1960s. This was probably bottled between 1956 and 1960 and is based on the 1836 Campanário that Walter Grabham left to the Blandy family on his death in 1955. Deep mahogany colour; rich smoky nose, autumnal bonfires and a touch of forest floor; rich lemon and lime marmalade with lovely mouthfeel and texture, leading to a delicate marmalade finish. ”

Bolivar, 1824
Amontillado Viejisimo, Domecq
The House of Domecq has spent almost three centuries pleasing sherry-drinkers of every stripe, including the royalty of Spain and England. They have also grown, eventually becoming part of the enormous corporate tapestry that is Allied Domecq, which owns a diverse range of wine and spirit producers.
This Amontillado captures vestigial freshness from the flor yeast, which has been allowed to die, in return adding colour, texture and complex malty hazelnut flavours to an unnervingly complex ensemble.

RT Madeira, 1789
Vintage Madeira
Provenance from Christies.
Some early 19th century bottles are found branded Rufino Teixeira and this is relative to the RT on this bottle. Teixeira is an old Madeira family, Tristão Vaz Teixeira being one of the first to discover the Island in the 15th century (in 1419, 600 years ago!)
In January 2019 we received the following email.
"Regarding the bottle of Madeira Wine "RT 1789" on sale, would like to inform you as follows;
The wine is Sercial and the bottle was painted by my grandfather, which was a Madeira Wine exporter around the year 1910.

the Swedish courts. In 1893 John F. Welsh was appointed the

This classic Tawny Port from Burmester has a vivid golden-brown colour. The aromas of ripe fruit are abundant on the nose, with appealing notes of vanilla. On the palate it is delightfully fresh with a marked fruity character. Velvety, round and remarkably engaging.
Winemaking:
Hand-picked at the optimum time, the grapes are then destemmed, crushed and converted into wine through a process of careful maceration to extract their colour, tannins and aromas, enhanced by constant churning during fermentation. This takes place in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature (between 28-30°C) until the right degree of sweetness (baumé) is achieved. …

Palmer Port, Non Vintage
Palmer Cask 150
150 Year Old Tawny Port
What happened 150 years ago? It was the time of Romanticism and the invention of dynamite; of the visionary novels of Jules Verne and of the first telegraphic connection between Portugal and England; but also of the appearance of phylloxera in Europe. While all this was happening, a port wine was ageing calmly in the cellars of the Douro.
Palmer Cask 150 is the survivor of a time of change, invention and plagues. His real story is printed in gold on the glass of the bottle, in direct contact with the wine. While its label tells the story known by all, the one of its time, it also conceals part of that memory. …

Quevedo
Dry White Port
The Quevedo Dry White Port is a fortified wine from Portugal produced by Quevedo from their six vineyards.
The lower residual sugar content gives this Dry White Port an elegant fresh and floral entry on the palate.
Complex and fresh nose filled with aromas of ripe pear, golden apple, honey and peach. On the palate this Dry white has a sharp entry due to its lower sugar content, creating a nice tension, yet it does not lack the aromatic complexity and intensity with nice flavours of apple, honey and poached pear on the finish. Perfectly balanced, this Port displays great purity of flavours with a precise and lingering finish. …
