Messias Port, 2009

10 Year Old White Port

A fairly rare style of port, the 10 years old white is characterised by skin contact and oxidative maturation. It is made in the same way as aged tawnies, with slow aging in pipes in the Messias lodges. The white grapes undergo a long period of skin maceration and are foot trodden. Following the addition of grape brandy, the White Port spends a year in large oak vats, followed by ageing in traditional oak pipes for a period of between 7 and 15 years.

Taylor's Port, 2009

Vintage Port SINGLE 75cl bottle

95 Points - Wine Journal

Reviews:Going back and forth, the Taylor's 2009 has a lighter nose than the 2007 with precise dark cherry, Seville orange, fresh fig and a hint of scorched soil. The palate is full-bodied packed with ripe black cherries, fresh fig and white pepper; very harmonious and focused although I feel that the 2007 has a little more depth and persistency. Very pretty and very pure, this Taylor's may well put on weight with a couple of years in bottle and merit a higher mark. Tasted May 2011.

Chateau Cos d'Estournel, 2008

St Estephe, 2eme Cru Classe (Half Bottle 37.5cl)

The 2008 Cos d'Estournel is inky/purple-hued and is still very young most likely to improve even further as the wine came out of malolactic fermentation very late. It reveals exceptionally precise, fresh aromas of black fruits, crushed rocks, licorice, flowers, and subtle smoke. Dense and high in tannin, the extraordinary richness of polyphenols has given the wine power, substance, and depth, but the sweetness of the tannin and the seemingly low acidity, even though the wine tastes remarkably fresh and the pH is only 3.57 (compared to pH’s close to 4 when the fruit is this ripe), has given the wine a precision and elegance that is remarkable.

Chateau Mouton Rothschild, 2008

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe

Varietal mix
Cabernet Sauvignon 83%
Merlot 17%

This 2008 Mouton Rothschild has a very high proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend, once again this red wine displays a very rich range of aromas and flavours throughout the tasting.

The first nose is intense and open: red fruit, blackberry and blackcurrant combine harmoniously with floral notes such as violet. On airing, roasted, toasted notes mingle graciously with delicate touches of cedar wood.

The palate opens with a lively, powerful and full-bodied attack, releasing silky, velvet tannins. Forward fruit on black berry flavours is set off by toasted notes and a delicious touch of vanilla, while the powerful and harmonious finish displays very attractive length.

Chateau Potensac, 2008

Medoc Cru Bourgeois
90+ Points - Robert Parker

*** 90+ Points (Outstanding)-Robert Parker. ***

Reviews:
Perhaps the finest Potensac made since the 1982, the 2008 is undoubtedly a sleeper of the vintage. Harvested between October 4-16, this blend of 42% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 18% Cabernet Franc was fashioned from modest yields of 44 hectoliters per hectare. While lacking the prestige of a grand cru classe, it offers an amazing display of sweet black cherry and cassis fruit intermixed with notions of earth and spice. Good purity, a medium to full-bodied mouthfeel, a seamless balance, ripe tannins, and fresh acids result in an amazing wine that should sell for a song.

Dolcetto d'Alba, 2008

Le Coste - Michele Chiarlo

This 2008 Dolcetto d'Alba is made from a native black grape variety of Northern Italy grown almost exclusively in the provinces of Cuneo and Alessandria in Piedmont. It is relatively easy to cultivate, although it is susceptible to fungal diseases. It ripens before Barbera and Nebbiolo and is often grown in high north-facing sites which would be unsuitable for Nebbiolo. The finest Dolcetto wines come from grapes grown on soils rich with white marls, especially those found on the right bank of the River Tauro. The wines generally are low in tannins and acidity and are usually fruity and fragrant, often with hints of almonds.

Dow's Port, 2008

Quinta Senhora da Ribera

The 2008 Quinta da Senhora da Ribeira Port Wine from Dow's is deep dark in colour. The nose is dominated by ripe berry fruit aromas with a layer of spice giving great complexity. The mouth is very structured with a long and lingering fresh peppery finish.

Quinta da Senhora da Ribeira set in the remote, hot and dry Douro Superior and commands a magnificent north bank position, overlooking a broad sweep of the Douro. Senhora da Ribeira’s wines are some of the finest in the Douro and they complement those from Bomfim in the composition of Dow’s classic Vintage Ports. The latter would be incomplete if one of the two was absent.

Gevrey Chambertin, 2008

Mes Favorites, Vieilles Vignes, Alain Burguet

The 2008 Gevrey Chambertin is outstanding - a nice deep core that is now light at the edge, A notably ripe earthy dark berry fruit aromas and rich, stylish and sweet flavours that are even more complex and add the dimensions of power and punch to the remarkably long and explosive finish.

A traditionalist in every sense, Alain Burguet’s love of the ‘Great Outdoors’ sees him tirelessly work his vineyards during the growing season. As yet he is still quite an undiscovered grower, and therefore his prices are rather reasonable, mainly due to the fact he does not have plots in any of the “presitigious” vineyards.

Kopke Port, 2008

White Colheita Port

The 2008 Kopke White port has a cool, light-amber colour. This unique white colheita derives from the traditional white grapes of the Porto e Douro region. Starting with aromas of a Pear Clafouti and burnt sugar, this elegant port delivers luscious flavours of Japanese pear-apple, with accents of hazelnut, nutmeg and orange zest. The lingering grapefruit finish provides the perfect balance for the sweetness.

Food Pairing:
Shows finesse and sophistication when combined with caramel desserts, dried fruits and spices, like caramel fondant with apple and ginger jelly, tatin tart, burnt cream and Cheeses of minimum intensity.

Barolo, 2007

La Spinetta - Campè

A 2007 Barolo La Spinetta red wine.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, October 2011 ***WA 95***
"There is no doubt the 2007 Barolo Campe is impressive. It is a beautifully balanced wine layered with opulent super-ripe fruit new leather and liquorice. The French oak is beautifully balanced in this broad-shouldered Barolo while the fruit avoids the overripe tendencies of the past. The wine holds up perfectly in the glass which hasn't always been the case. Tar licorice and spices wrap around the intense finish. This is the finest vintage of Campe to date. Kudos to Giorgio Rivetti and his team for this fabulous effort.
