The 1986 Taylor Quinta de Vargellas is a vintage port from the renowned Taylor's wine house. While 1986 was not declared a vintage year for Taylor's overall, the Quinta de Vargellas estate often produces exceptional single-quinta vintage ports even in years that are not widely declared. 1985 was an outstanding vintage for port and the Calem does not disappoint. The port shows a beautiful and intense garnet colour with ruby highlights. The nose denotes intense aromas of red berries, black cherry, prunes and cinnamon spice. On the palate this is drier style than most of the the English shippers. There is smooth mouthfeel, refreshing acidity and soft tannins. A little sour cherry and redcurrant makes this an interesting twist with layers of dried herbs and spices. …

The 1985 Porto Feist Vintage Port is a very nice mature Port wine. It has mature amber/tawny colour. On the nose there are some notes of red berries, coffee and hints of liquorice and ginger. The wine is full-bodied, sweet with notes of roasted coffee, caramel. Resolved tannins and a nice long elegant finish. Very good 90/100 VWP tasting.

This Port House was founded in London by two German cousins H. and C.J. Feist in 1836 and opened up in Oporto 1870. Carl Feist left the management in Porto to his son-in-law J.H. Speich in 1921. Barros took over the house in 1953 and was then bought by Sogevinus in 2006. …

This 40 Year old tawny Port is a dark tawny colour with with green hints on the rim. Huge complexity of aromas, from nuts, to sweet dried fruits and at a certain point, it smells like honeycomb. On the palate it is thick and intense, with the dried fruit coming along and it never finishes.

The 1984 Grahams Malvados has been stored in Grahams cellars until purchase by VWP in 2021 - The bottles are in exceptional condition.

The 1984 still has some youth evident on the colour. A delightful, fruit-laden nose, which takes considerable time in the glass to open up. Macerated black fruits and figs, covered in a thin layer of chocolate. Rich, full bodied, but quite forward and fruit dominated on the palate. A lovely texture, quite creamy and sweet, to match this fruit. Some powerful tannins in the background, although these really do play a minor role, only showing on the finish.
