Chateau Margaux, 1991

1er Grand Cru Classe

Reviews:
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Outer quote mark Tasted blind as a vintage comparison at the Valandraud vertical, the 1991 Chateau Margaux was actually much better than I expected and certainly surpassed my solitary previous encounter. It is quite deep and clear in color with a surprisingly generous bouquet that is not complex, but attractive with scents of mulberry, mint and star anise. It opens nicely in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly rustic, irony tannin, though the fruit profile is charming: blackberry, chestnut, spice box, cumin and a touch of undergrowth. Of course, after 25 years it is firmly into its secondary phase and yet it has retained admirable cohesion and freshness.

Chateau Yquem, 1991

Sauternes 1er Cru Classe

Notes from Ch Yquem. A vintage marked by frost on the 21st of April that fortunately spared several plots of slope vineyards at Yquem. Summer was warm and dry, but September was rainy. The harvest was over in three passes which brought in only a small amount of grapes, but of very good quality. This experience shows what an advantage great terroirs have when spring frosts occur. In light of the weather that year, the calibre of 1991 Yquem exceeded our expectations, and benefited from a particularly fine summer.

Yquem's 1991 is a beautifully made, mediumgold-colored wine with a gorgeous nose of creme brulee, roasted coffee, and seet, honeyed pineapple and other assorted fruits.

Chianti, 1991

The area’s most highly regarded wines come from the Chianti Classico zone which is the heartland of the Chianti wine region – its traditional and longest-established vinicultural area. This fame is due not just to the high quality of the wines, but also to the classico zone's iconic Tuscan landscape and wine making traditions. This Chianti is characterised by its red and black cherry character, intermingled with notes of wild herbs, mint and spice, supported by a racy acidity and mellow tannins.

Dr. Giuseppe Ippolito

The Ciro Rosso has a bright ruby red color and transparent. Has an elegant bouquet in which they differ floral and fruity notes: rose, maraschino cherry, red fruit and hints of iodine on a rhubarb and sweet spices. The palate has a right to the body weight in balance and freshness, is intense and soft with a lingering fruity finish and almonds.

Les 1991 Jaboulet

Côte Rôtie is a prestigious red-wine appellation at the northern tip of France's Rhône Valley wine region. The 1999 Cote-Rotie by Domaine Mouton is a blend of the classic Northern Rhone varieties Syrah and Viognier and shows a medium garnet colour. Graham's Port, 1991

Vintage Port

*** 94 Points Robert Parker ***

"Graham's 1991 Vintage Port gets my nod as the port of the vintage. While keeping in mind that Graham's aims for a sweeter-styled port, there is no doubting the opaque purple/black colour, or the explosive nose of black fruits, licorice, spring flowers, and tar. Thick and full-bodied, with a satiny texture and a blockbuster, alcoholic finish, this is a top-notch vintage port." Robert Parker, Wine Advocate 1995. Drink now to 2030+

Kopke Port

30 year old White Port - Half bottle 37.5cl 20% ABV (Price includes wooden Kopke box as illustrated)

Kopke Port is the oldest port house. Established in 1638 by Nicolau Kopke and his son Cristiano, who came to Portugal as representatives of the Hanseatic League, the House has been run through the generations by several representatives of the Kopke family, obtaining an excellent reputation for its wines.

Review:
This rare 30 year old white port has a cool, light-amber color, this unique white “tawny” port derives from the traditional white grapes of the Porto e Douro region, including Arinto, Viosinho, Gouveio and Malvasia Fina. Starting with aromas of a Pear Clafouti and burnt sugar, this elegant port delivers luscious flavors of Japanese pear-apple, with accents of hazelnut, nutmeg and orange zest.

Montepulciano, 1991

d'Abruzzo, Falchetto

Montepulciano is a red wine grape variety grown widely in central Italy, most notably its eastern Abruzzo, Marche and Molise regions. The variety was named after the Tuscan parish of Montepulciano, but, confusingly, is not used in the famous wines produced there (see Vino Nobile di Montepulciano). Globally appreciated for their soft flavors, strong color and gentle tannins, Montepulciano wines are typically best consumed in their youth and with food. The deep-purple juice of Montepulciano grapes is used in varying proportions to produce wines under roughly 50 of Italy's DOC and DOCG titles. Although sometimes used on its own,

Quinta do Noval Nacional, 1991

Vintage Port

Rich ruby color that is nearly opaque. It presents notes of strawberry, molasses and others mentioned root beer which I did not really get, but thought was worth noting. This Nacional displays excellent concentration and structure, with medium to full-bodied juice. It possesses young blackberry fruit with a unique balsamic component, and shows its fine balance and some powerful tannins that will allow this wine to age for a few decades. A fine Nacional but not a classic, from an unheralded vintage that has a very youthful essence and lingering finish. 93 pts. (HOLD) Roy Hersh

Ryst-Dupeyon Armagnac, 1991

Ryst Dupeyron Reserve Joseph Millesime vintage Armagnac
50cl bottle

The 1991 Dupeyron Armagnac is the expression of a single year and has a unique character associated with the year and the cask in which it has been stored. These vintages are bottled at the alcohol level in which they naturally come out of the cask. There is a wonderful contrast between the sweet and sour flavours of wood, amplified by the strong alcoholic degree. Rich palate feeling the alcohol and the concentration of dry plums, spicy with persistent flavour of rancio and of spices, but round, soft and long in the finish. The tannins are very present, but full-bodied and round.

The Maison Ryst-Dupeyon was founded by Joseph Dupeyron in 1905.

Smith Woodhouse Vintage Port, 1991

Vintage Port

A striking, individualistic nose of spring flowers, blackberries, blueberries, and lead pencil shavings emerges from this saturated purple-coloured 1991. Evolved yet expansive, sweet, and generous, it admirably conceals moderately high tannins under a wealth of fruit and glycerin. The aromatic profile and attack merit a score in the mid-nineties, but the finish is short, thus lowering the overall rating

Taylor's Port, 1991

Quinta de Vargellas Vintage Port

** 95 Points - Robert Parker ***
** 94+ points View from the Cellar ***

Reviews
Taylor Fladgate's 1991 Quinta de Vargellas is the finest Vargellas I have tasted. The opaque purple color is followed by aromatics that are more closed than most 1991s. In the mouth, it is a wine of extraordinary richness and brilliantly delineated components. This exceptionally rich, backward port possesses layer upon layer of fruit, a thick, chewy, unctuous texture, firm structure and tannin, and a finish that lasts for more than a minute. It is an exquisite port that will age for 25-30 years. Robert Parker Wine Advocate

In a vintage where most other Port lodges declared a vintage, Taylor’s chose to simply produce this stellar Quinta de Vargellas.
