Sale

Vintage Port in Branded Gift Case
Special Offer | Was £69.95 | Now £39.95

The Burmester Vintage Port 2017 is loaded with character and enormous ageing potential. From a fully declared year, this port is a blend of Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca and Touriga Nacional, this is warm, lightly textured with minerality and touched by toastiness. The tannins are soft, already well integrated with the floral black fruits. Drink the wine from 2020.

Grape Varieties: Touriga Nacional (50%) and Touriga Franca (50%), from vines more than 25 years old from Quinta do Arnozelo, Douro Superior.

Reviews
88 Points Mark Squire - Wine Advocate Jul 2019
The 2017 Vintage Port is mostly a 50/45 blend of Touriga Franca and Touriga Nacional (Tinta Roriz for the rest) coming in with 102 grams of residual sugar.

Casa Ferreirinha, 2017

Vinha Grande, Douro Tinto

Casa Ferreirinha Vinha Grande Red 2017 is ruby red with purple tinges. The aroma is intense, predominantly redcurrant and plum, along with spice, resin and cedar, all very well integrated with subtle oak. It is a well-balanced wine with firm, well-textured tannins and bright, attractive acidity. Its finish is very long and harmonious.

The Casa Ferreirinha brand is owned by the largest wine producer in Portugal, Sogrape.

Casa Ferreirinha, 2017

Quinta de Leda

The 2017 Quinta da Leda is a top-quality red wine of great complexity and elegance, a fine example of the richness and modernity of great Douro wines today. It is an honoured member of the range of Casa Ferreirinha, the company with the longest tradition of production of top-quality unfortified Douro wines and one of the most respected Douro names throughout the world.

Tasting Notes: Quinta da Leda is very deep red in colour. Its aroma is intense and extremely complex, dominated by ripe plum and blackcurrant, resin and cedar, as well as clove and nutmeg, then notes of violet, and a touch of chocolate (signs of a ripe year) always perfectly integrated with subtle oak of excellent quality.

Chateau Cissac, 2017

Medoc, Cru Bourgeois

A 2017 vintage Bordeaux wine. This is the beauty of decent Cru Bourgeois Bordeaux if stored well - it makes demands on the taster (patience and consideration). Not a wine from those who prefer to 'pop and pour' who miss out on most of the quality and character.

The 2017 has a good rich colour - browning just a little at the rim. This bottle demands patience when opening as it needs time to develop. Good blackcurrant nose. Plum, damson on the palate with balancing blackcurrant acidity. Dusty tannins on the end palate at first but the tannin softened in the glass, even without food. With food it is excellent.

Tasting Note
Dense inky core fading to a magenta rim. A seductive Croft nose, ripe and voluptuous but with the depth and density characteristic of the 2017 vintage. As usual, plump, juicy blackcurrant, black cherry and raspberry form the backdrop. However, the nose is soon drawn into a vortex of heady, complex aroma in which resiny scents of eucalyptus and gumcistus blend with pungent notes of sage and mint, fresh hints of grapefruit and a mellow spiciness. On the palate, firm, sinewy tannins are wrapped in a thick envelope of dense, velvety texture.

Tasting Notes
Croft has announced the release of the first Vintage Port made from the produce of the old, historic vineyard plots on the company’s flagship property, Quinta da Roêda. Named Serikos, a historical reference to the property’s involvement in the production of silk following the destruction of its vineyards by Phylloxera and to the silken quality of its wines, it will be made available on allocation in very limited quantities.

Tasting notes
It is rare to see such tremendous depth and intensity in colour as this wine displays The freshness of the floral aromas is very attractive with a dominance of rockrose, a flower that grows wild around the hills of Senhora da Ribeira. On the palate, it is exceptionally full-bodied, rich and powerful with black fruit coming to the fore.

Tasting Note
A narrow magenta ring around a core of inky purple black. The nose opens with a burst of dark, woodland fruit, dense and succulent, blended with fresher, more vibrant red berry aromas. A slatey minerality holds this exuberant fruitiness in check. At this stage, the nose is still reserved and discreetly aromatic, revealing leafy, balsamic scents and cedary notes of sawn wood. The first impression on the palate, as on the nose, is of tightly packed, dense dark berry fruit, which then explodes on the mid-palate and surges into the long finish.

Klein Constantia, 2017

Vin De Constance - Klein Constantia

Includes gift box as shown.

Since being introduced in 1986, Vin de Constance has consistently appeared in lists of the world’s top wines.
The wine is made by grapes grown on the foothills of the cool climate hills of Constantia. “The grapes are left to hang to dry on the vine and only the best bunches are selected and hand-picked,” reveals winemaker Matthew Day. “At the end of the growing season, the individual berries or raisins are hand picked to make the essence, the very heart of the Vin de Constance.”

Meerea Park, 2017

XYZ Rose, Hunter Valley

The ‘XYZ’ brand wines constitute modern styles of Hunter Valley wines. Rose is a recent addition to this range.
Vineyard Notes
Merlot was sourced from a mature vineyard in the Upper Hunter.
WinemakingOnce crushed, the grapes were allowed to cold soak for 2 days to allow colour extraction before the juice was ‘bled’ off the skins. The coloured juice was then fermented in a stainless steel tank. The run up to, and during the 2017 vintage was warm, very warm indeed which compacted the entire harvest period to 14 days. No rain meant no disease and beautifully ripe grapes.

Tasting NotesA lovely salmon pink in colour, the nose shows confectionary strawberry, rose petal and raspberries.

Messias Port, 2017

Vintage Port

The 2017 Messias Vintage Port is our best value 2017 port. However, there is no compromise on quality from this popular Portuguese shipper. The 2017 has a nose of a classic port, It has a moderate nose of brandied alcohol. The port is slightly drier than the traditional English shippers and may be a little more approachable to those new to Port wines. Good palate of cherries, liquorice, a moderate hit of alcohol with substantive fruit. Very enjoyable with some blue cheeses and pears.
