Oscar and Claudia Quevedo have recently declared their 2019 Quevedo Vintage port. This follows their acclaimed 2017 and 2018 Vintage.

2019 was a roller-coaster of a year with an exceptionally wet spring followed by a summer punctuated by heatwaves. Whilst not a general declaration, the ports we have tasted are excellent. Quevedo, who have a several prime vineyards, each with their own micro-climate, were able to select the best grapes to blend into their vintage and the result is a port worthy of its declaration.

Reserva, Douro Red

The nose is aromatic, concentrated and powerful. It reveals notes of cassis, blackberry and light notes of licorice, nicely combined with notes of blackberry, small berries and notes of flowers, olive, local vegetation, mocha, Ceylon tea and Sichuan pepper. On the palate it is fruity, balanced, juicy and somewhat minerally. The tannins are firm, which guarantees good aging.

Chryseia

The 2019 Chryseia has received much critical acclaim as it is the first non-fortified Portuguese red to appear in Wine Spectator's annual Top 100 Wines. Chryseia has been one of the pioneers of the now widely-recognised resurgence of non-fortified DOURO DOC wines. However, this wine, whose name means "golden" in ancient Greek – as does the name of the river in Portuguese – has remained true to its own style.
