Quinta de Ervamoira, 1994

Vintage Port, Ramos Pinto

The earthy nose is a little mute, but the maturing palate is rich and full of softening black fruit. The wine is now coming into its own, and while it lacks the complexity and punch of a great Port, it has plenty going on in its favor, including layers of spice and sweetness on the finish.

Quinta do Vesuvio Vintage Port, 1994

Vintage Port

94 Points (outstanding) Wine Journal ***

Reviews: "This has an ethereal nose, nice lift with secondary aromas beginning to come through, with blackberry leaf, dried orange peel, a touch of walnut and honey. Expressive, if a little too open-knit. There is a hint of glue just in the background but it does not get in the way. The palate is very well balance, quite suave with very fine tannins, with subtle hints of cloves, dried herbs and a touch of capsicum with elegant very supple finish. Excellent. Drink now-2035." Knipser - Pinot Rosè Brut Nature

The winery Knipser from Laumersheim in the Palatinate is an outstanding German winery. The critics of the Gault Millau count the Palatine Knipser with the highest rating of 5 stars even the world's top. The special thing about Knipser wine is the consistently high quality: whether red or white, under the direction of Volker, Werner and Stephan Knipser, great wines are constantly being produced. It was first the Knipser red wine, by which the winery from the Palatinate became famous in the 90s. A proven way of the winery Knipser it is also to offer wines until the ripe for sale. Warre's Vintage Port, 1994

Vintage Port

An outstanding port scoring 94 points (Robert Parker)

"One of the finest Warres I have ever tasted, this opaque purple-coloured wine is made in a drier style (a la Dow), yet it is expressive, extremely full-bodied, with superb richness, purity, and well-integrated alcohol and tannin. It possesses a great mid-palate as well as impressive length. Tasters should take note of the wealth of peppery, liquorice-scented and flavoured raspberry and blackcurrant fruit. Look for it to be ready to drink in 10-12 years, and keep for 30+. This is a profound example of Warre vintage port." Parker Wine Advocate 1996.

Brugerolle, 1993

Cognac

The Cognac Brugerolle House creation dates back to 1847 by Etienne Brugerolle. Today, Mister Claude Brugerolle, 5th generation and vice chairman of the CDG group is perpetuing 160 years of tradition. Its intense and deep amber colour is a sign of its strength. Its flavours of candied fruit and its subtle and lightly spicy nose create a complete harmony: a mark of its power and roundness. To taste, a smooth, full sensation gives a simultaneously powerful and soft tonality with a hint of cocoa and a warm fruity presence. The long finish expresses all the complexity of the cognac’s blending and its long ageing process.

Chateauneuf du Pape, 1993

Chateau de Beaucastel Pierre Perrin

Château de Beaucastel has long been considered one of the great wines of France. It is unanimously renowned for its balance, elegance and ageing potential. Beaucastel has an extraordinary terroir at the Northern end of the appellation with heavy exposure to the Mistral. All 13 varieties of the appellation have been organically grown here since the sixties.

1993 was a good year for Rhone Wines and the Beaucastel has striking colour. The nose is profound and sweet, with black truffle, under-wood, and earthy notes. The mouth is fruity, fleshy and round, with soft tannins. It can be drunk but will improve with time.

Marquis de Caussade, 1993

Vintage Armagnac

Amber core with a bronze rim; shows mellow walnut, warm spices, cocoa and prunes on the nose. Mellow attack on the palate finishing on a delicious freshness and texture.

Armagnac is a grape brandy produced in the Gascony region of south-west France, as it has been since at least the 15th century. A fuller-bodied (some would say rustic) style of brandy when compared to Cognac, it is only distilled once and is often aged for many years (decades in some cases) and makes an excellent digestif.

Pelaverga, 1993

New

Bel Colle

Pelaverga vine is certainly a native of Saluzzo. In the Turin area it is known as synonymous with Cari. Pelaverga vine was then introduced in the town of Verduno in the 17th century by Beato Sebastiano Valfrè, who got some vine plants grown in the Saluzzo area. The vine, due to the scarse production among other characteristics, seemed doomed to disappear. In the ‘70s, thanks to the intuition of some winegrowers of Verduno, the Pelaverga grape was recovered and saved from extinction. The berry is black large, elliptical, short with very waxy, blue-purple skin. The bunch is medium to large, conical or pyramidal elongated, generally compact with a medium-small, pentagonal, five-lobed leaf.

1992 D'Oliveiras Madeira

Malvasia (Price includes leather effect gift box with silk liner as illustrated)

A rich, velvety smooth Malvazia with sweet caramel, chocolate orange and malted chocolate notes. Well judged balancing acidity teases out the finish and keeps the sweetness in check.
* Review by Sarah Ahmed- www.thewinedetective.co.uk *

Try this luscious sweet and full-bodied Madeira with stewed meat dishes with sweet and spicy elements. It pars marvellously with intense and rich dark chocolate as well as nutty and caramel desserts. Why not serve at the very end of the meal with a blue cheese such as stilton or Roquefort. Finally, a Malvasia is also delicious with cigars.

Barolo, 1992

Enrico Serafino

Barolo is known as the 'king of wines' and is made from the Nebbiolo grape. Heady aromas of rose, leather, vanilla, cherry, pepper, cranberry, strawberry. Fruits are perfectly knitted with the tannins and acidity. It's a powerful wine but remarkably subtle. Don't underestimate it and certainly serve it with food to show at it's best. Nebbiolo has naturally high tannins and acidity, so it will take on full-flavoured, rich foods no problem at all.

The 1992 Burmester is a beautiful mature tawny colour. On the nose it has cocoa, chocolate together with a hint of mint. On the palate this is quite complex - medium bodied with a perfect balance between the acidity, tannins and flavours, there is a little spiciness in the mouth that adds to the experience. Chateau Montbrun, 1992

Margaux

Brick rim with a light brick red core. Initially the nose was fresh and very sweet. Then developing in the glass with notes of liquorice, caramel and increasing acidity, which eventually breaks down the nose. The palate is still surprisingly fresh. This must have been very attractive in the 1980's. Growing old gracefully and still drinking well.

Created by Baron Philippe de Rothschild of the Rothschild banking dynasty, the wine named after his premier cru vineyard Château Mouton Rothschild, Mouton Cadet wine is produced through the assembly of a variety of grapes, from several Bordeaux region appellations. Originally only a red "Claret" wine from its origins in the 1930s, a white wine was added to the label in the 1970s, followed in the 1990s by a range of réserve wines, and in 2007 by a rosé wine.

Fonseca Port, 1992

Vintage Port

Scoring 97 Parker Points a magnificent Port

Reviews "Fonseca has scored in both the 1991 and 1992 vintages. The 1992 is a majestic young port that should ultimately rival, perhaps even surpass this house's most recent great efforts (1985, 1977, 1970, 1963). This colossal vintage port reveals a nearly opaque black/purple color, and an explosive nose of jammy black fruits, licorice, chocolate, and spices. Extremely full-bodied and unctuously-textured, this multi-layered, enormously-endowed port reveals a finish that lasts for over a minute. It is a magnificent port that will age well for 30-40 years.
