Vintage & Producer
Pira Francesco is a respected traditional Barolo producer from Serralunga d’Alba, known for crafting structured and ageworthy Nebbiolo wines that reflect the power and elegance of this famed village. The 1985 vintage ranks among the great years in Piedmont, marked by a warm, consistent growing season that produced ripe, concentrated fruit and wines with superb balance and longevity.
Tasting Note
After nearly four decades, this Barolo has evolved into a beautifully mature and complex wine. The colour shows a classic pale garnet with orange rim, while the nose opens with aromas of dried roses, truffle, tar, and sweet spice. The palate is silky and layered, offering notes of dried cherry, leather, balsamic herbs, and tobacco, framed by fine, resolved tannins and a lingering savoury finish. Elegant and deeply expressive, this is a textbook example of traditional Barolo at its peak maturity.
