Description
1985 Brunello di Montalcino – Castiglion del Bosco
Vintage & Producer
Castiglion del Bosco is one of Montalcino’s oldest estates, with winemaking origins dating back to the early 1900s. Located in the northwest of the appellation, its vineyards benefit from a cooler microclimate that favours balance and finesse in Sangiovese. The 1985 vintage is legendary in Tuscany — warm and even conditions produced ripe, harmonious wines that have aged among the finest of the modern era.
Tasting Note
After nearly four decades, this Brunello has developed a graceful maturity. The colour is pale garnet with amber hues, and the bouquet is beautifully evolved, showing dried cherry, leather, cedar, and earthy truffle notes. The palate is silky and expressive, revealing layers of sweet dried fruit, spice, tobacco, and forest floor. The structure remains elegant, with soft acidity and fully resolved tannins carrying a long, savoury finish. A refined, traditional Brunello that captures the charm of both producer and vintage.
