  • Description

This elegant 1998 Château Beaumont from the Haut-Médoc, Cru Bourgeois, reflects the estate’s reputation for producing reliable and approachable Bordeaux. Situated between Margaux and Saint-Julien, Beaumont benefits from deep gravel soils ideal for Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, creating wines that combine ripe fruit with classic Médoc structure.

    Tasting Notes
Ruby-garnet in colour with a softening rim, the 1998 Beaumont shows aromas of cassis, plum, cedar, and dried herbs, with subtle notes of tobacco and earth from bottle age. The palate is medium-bodied, with supple tannins and flavours of redcurrant, blackberry, leather, and spice. Elegant and balanced, it finishes with gentle persistence, making it an excellent example of mature Cru Bourgeois Bordeaux. Best enjoyed now and over the next few years.

    Serving and Food Pairing
Serve at 16–18°C after 30 minutes of decanting. Ideal with roast lamb, beef stew, or duck breast. Vegetarian pairings include mushroom risotto, lentil cassoulet, or roasted aubergines. It also pairs beautifully with aged cheeses such as Comté or Manchego.

    Winemaking
The blend in 1998 was dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with a touch of Petit Verdot. Grapes were hand-harvested and vinified in temperature-controlled vats before maturing in French oak barrels, some new, for around 12 months. This careful élevage has produced a balanced wine capable of graceful ageing.

Château Beaumont has a history dating back to 1824 and remains one of the most consistent estates of the Haut-Médoc. With its large vineyard holdings on well-drained gravel, it consistently produces wines that are approachable in youth yet capable of developing complexity with age.

    How to store your Wine
Store lying on its side in a cool, dark cellar at 10–14°C. While the 1998 is now mature, it will remain enjoyable for another 3–5 years if cellared well.
