Description
Gazin's vineyards sit at the highest elevations of the Pomerol appellation, adjacent to those of Petrus. The blend here is 90% Merlot with just a few percent each of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. 1989 was a great vintage here. This can be drunk with pleasure now but probably has a few years further development for those with the patience to wait.
Deep colour with the merest touch of bricking. Nose of baked plum and spice, hint of vegetal maturity. Followed through on the palate, dense body, smooth tannins and a fully integrated capsicum grip for balance. Medium to good length. Excellent, although clearly at the tail end of its plateau and for drinking over the next couple of years.
