Description

A nicely aged traditional Bordeaux with notes of forest floor, savoury celery seed and dried ripe fruit. Excellent value for money, its plump, attractive palate gives much more than its price lets on.

Formerly a convent, Château des Mille Anges has been producing fine wines for more than three centuries. It was purchased in 1994 by Mrs. Heather van Ekris and major investments have been made by her in new barriques, new storage facilities, expansion and renovation of the cuverie and state-of-the-art vinification equipment. Today, the wine produced by Mille Anges is matured in oak barrels of which 33% are replaced by new oak barrels each year. The vineyard is situated 17 miles southeast of Bordeaux, on the hills of the right bank of the river Garonne. Shaped like a half moon, the vineyard is on steep slopes which give it natural drainage and the southeast to southwest exposure gives it optimal sunshine. The soil benefits from the harmonious mixture of gravel, limestone and clay subsoil. The vines range in age from 4 years to 40 years with an average age of approximately 20 years. 70% of the production is Merlot, 15% is Cabernet Sauvignon and the remaining 15% is Cabernet Franc.
