Description
1965 Rubino del Piave, S. Margherita
Veneto, Italy
A fascinating mid-century red from Cantina S. Margherita, one of the most respected producers in northeastern Italy. The Rubino del Piave originates from the fertile plains near the River Piave, where local red varieties such as Merlot and Raboso create wines known for their freshness and gentle spice.
This 1965 vintage shows a deep amber-garnet hue with complex tertiary aromas of dried plum, cedar, leather, and tobacco leaf. On the palate, it is mellow and rounded, with notes of dried cherry, fig, and warm spice, underpinned by soft acidity and fading tannins that speak of long bottle age.
Serving & Pairing:
Serve at 17°C after a brief decant to release its evolved aromatics. Excellent alongside slow-braised beef, roasted game, aged Asiago, or earthy vegetable stews, where its savoury character shines.
Drink now. A rare and atmospheric expression of 1960s Veneto winemaking from the historic S. Margherita estate.
