The 1988 Veuve Clicquot scores an impressive 92 points on cellartracker.com. "Slight spritz on opening but no 'pop'. Warm canary yellow with a burnished gold undertone and very fine streams of microscopic bubbles. Very complex nose including some rancio, as expected, but also merde, hay, apricot, butterscotch and dried mushroom. Crisp and cool entry. Nicely full and concentrated in the mouth. Lots of mature flavours of yellow stone fruits, more hay, rancio, wet stone and tingly acidity. Complex with a long, off dry finish. Rather intriguing and very tasty. Very well balanced.
