Vermouth, Non Vintage

Amaro - Pistone (1970's Bottling)

The Pistone Vermouth Amaro “Nastro Azzurro” is a fascinating relic of Italy’s post-war aperitivo culture, likely dating to the 1960s. Produced by Pistone Luigi & C., this Turin-style amaro-vermouth hybrid reflects the experimental creativity of Italian producers during a period when bitters, aperitivi, and vermouths were thriving in both domestic and export markets.

The striking turquoise-and-white label, with its ornate flourishes and bold “PISTONE” branding, is unmistakably mid-century in style. The proud designation “Nastro Azzurro” (Blue Ribbon) would have been a mark of quality, aligning this bottling with Italy’s reputation for excellence in vermouth-making.

Drink - Torazzi (circa 1970's)

The Torazzi Vermouth Drink is a strikingly rare Italian bottling, produced during the 1960s to early 1970s, when vermouth enjoyed global popularity both as an aperitivo and as a cocktail staple. The ornate, medal-adorned label design and the bold red “TORAZZI” branding across the shoulder are characteristic of mid-century Italian export bottlings.

The use of the term “Vermouth Drink” rather than the classic “Vermouth di Torino” hints at a style crafted specifically for broader export markets, appealing to a growing international audience that was discovering Italian fortified wines.

This vermouth would likely have carried the classic Rosso profile — deep amber-red in colour with aromas of bitter orange peel,

Gherzi Vermouth Torino Tipo Amaro (c. 1970s)

The Gherzi Vermouth Torino Tipo Amaro is a fine representation of Italy’s vermouth tradition from the 1970s, a period when Turin’s vermouth makers were still exporting widely across Europe and beyond. The bold red-and-gold label with ornate flourishes and the use of the word “Tipo Amaro” (a bitter style vermouth) firmly places this in the mid-to-late 20th century Italian production style.

This expression would have delivered a richer, more robust profile than classic Rosso vermouths, with layers of dark caramel, bitter herbs, wormwood, and gentian, supported by spiced notes of clove, cinnamon, and licorice root.

Antica Formula - G. Carpano

This historic bottling of Carpano Antica Formula Vermouth, dating from circa 1965–1975, is a rare and evocative piece of Italian aperitivo history. With its wax-sealed top and intricate monochrome scrollwork label, it represents the luxurious mid-20th-century revival of the original 1786 recipe created by Antonio Benedetto Carpano in Torino.

On the nose and palate, the vermouth is dense, rich, and layered, offering aromas of vanilla, cocoa, dried figs, raisins, and alpine herbs. The signature bitterness of wormwood provides structure, balancing the natural sweetness and giving the vermouth a velvety, lingering finish.

Cognac - Bisquit Dubouche, Non Vintage

Champagne Napoleon Cognac

An old release of Bisquite Cognac with an average age of 20 years. Bisquit is produced in Jarnac, in the Petite Champagne region of Cognac. We estimate that this was bottled during the 1960s.
Legend has it that Napoleon took crates of Courvoisier Cognac into exile with him to the island of St Helena, and the crew coined the Cognac as "Napoleon's Cognac".

Tasting Notes
Elegant copper highlights, a lingering bouquet, and a powerful, round flavour make this a very distinguished cognac. The oaky characteristics and candied fruit flavours coat the palate after the first sip.

A wonderful cognac to enjoy as a digestif at the end of a meal.

Old Pale Grande Fine Champagne cognac, Family Reserve Brandy

Steeped in tradition and shippers since 1769, Cognac Prunier is a family run firm with cellars in the heart of the town of Cognac.

We estimate that this bottle of Prunier Old Pale Fine Champagne Cognac from France was bottled in the early 1970s.

The cognac comes from a large collection built up during the 1970s in Kent, England. For 50 years the owner displayed the collection in the family’s home bar, with later additions being gifted to the collector by friends and family.

Aromas of liquorice, coffee, dried fruits, orange peel and almonds fill the nose, complemented by notes of oak, leather, dried fruits and rancio throughout the palate.

Quinta do Noval, Non Vintage

Noval Tawny Port
Bottled in 1974

This Quinta Do Noval Tawny Port is a style of fortified wine characterised by its amber colour and complex flavour profile that develops from extended aging in wooden barrels. Such wines are typically less fruity and more nuanced compared to Ruby Port and reveal amber colour with aromas of dried fruits, toasted nuts, caramel, and occasionally a hint of spice or vanilla. On the palate it should be smooth and balanced, with notes of nuts, dried fruits (such as figs and raisins), caramel, and hints of citrus peel.

Serving & Food Pairing
Tawny Ports are ready-to drink and do not require decanting.

Valdespino, Non Vintage

Pedro Ximénez `El Candado`

El Candado is Spanish for the padlock, and indeed every bottle comes with a small padlock and two little keys. The idea is that a butt from this solera used to be locked away as someone from the Valdespino family wanted to keep the wine to himself.

Nose: quite a bright nose, with lots of raisins and figs but in a fruity way rather than the sticky way. Honey and plenty of quince jelly. Some green, leafy notes too, as well as a light woody touch. Light cinnamon.

Mouth: very sweet and onctuous, but again not over the top. Toffee notes, desserts with figs and honey. Guava. Grows slightly darker towards the end, with some Turkish coffee, dark caramel and a light spicy edge (pepper, cardamom).
