The name Quinta do Noval first appeared in records in 1715.
The history of Quinta do Noval is marked by the actions of visionaries:
António José da Silva, a merchant from Vila Nova de Gaia, acquired Quinta do Noval in 1894 after it had been devastated by phylloxera. He restructured the property by replanting its vineyards.

Sandeman, 1934
Sandeman 1934, DOC Douro Neck label Bottled in 1936 by Findlater, Mackie & Co Ltd, Hove
It all started in 1790 when the 25-year-old son of a Scottish prosperous cabinetmaker asked for a 300£ loan from his father to set up as a wine merchant in London.
This ambitious young man was George Sandeman, the founder of Sandeman, who ended up establishing one of the world’s leading Port and Sherry wine businesses.
From early on Sandeman specialised in these two great Iberian fortified wines and, following a usual practice in those days, began trading not from own offices but from Tom’s Coffee house, on Birchin Lane, London. Business was agreed on a ‘gentleman’s word’ and George soon gained an impeccable reputation, characteristic of The House of Sandeman to today. …

Reviews:
"Deep orange with a brown hue. Treacle and floral perfume on the nose, incredibly dense and intense albeit a little smelly. Dark brown sugar on the palate, with plums and damsons; dense and full-bodied. Deep flavoured aftertaste, big and burly and with an intense finish. Very impressive port."

Volnay, 1934
Henri de Villament/Collection du Docteur Barolet, Burgundy
The finest and most elegant red wines of the Côte de Beaune are grown in Volnay, a village which might be twinned with Chambolle-Musigny in the Côte de Nuits, for the high active chalk content in the soil and comparatively low clay content. Whereas in earlier times Volnay was made in a particularly light, early drinking style, these days there are many producers making wines which age extremely well.

Gonzales Byas, 1932
Vintage Port, DOC Douro
This famous sherry producer came to Oporto in 1895 and started to ship port in 1896. From 1901 they purchased their wines from Quinta do Roriz. The port operation was purchased by Sandeman in 1989 and it no longer exists as a trading name.
The 1932 is light tawny in colour with molasses and caramel on the nose. The port is light bodied and the sugar and caramel are evident in the taste. There is some extra complexity in the mouth and the port has a good long finish. Rating 18/20 VWP tasting.

Toro Albalá, 1931
Don PX Convento Seleccion, Montilla-Moriles 1931
98 Points Robert Parker
The 1931 Toro Albala proceeds from the sacristy that the Palma family had in the basement of their house located in Aguilar de la Frontera. The butt stack’s temperature and humidity were preserved in perfect conditions, which allowed this amontillado to age statically with refinement and elegance. José María Toro Albalá acquired this relic and stored it in his winery, waiting for the right moment to commercialize it. It has obtained 98 Robert Parker points.
“Convento Selección” are wines that have aged for generations in butts so that the wine and wood could merge with time and result into an unmatchable flavour. …

Massandra, 1931
Livadia White Muscat (Includes Original Box as illustrated)
Fortified Sweet Wine
Sotherbys Massandra Collection
The wineries in Massandra were built during the reign of Czar Nicholas II. During the process, wine caves containing thousands of bottles were constructed beneath the city. This “personal wine cellar” of the Czar contained tens of thousands of bottles. These caves survived the Russian Revolution, both World Wars, the fall of Communism, and Yakov Smirnoff. In 1990, about 13,000 of these bottles – never before available in the West – were put to auction
