Porta dos Cavaleiros, Dao

Caves S. Joao, established in 1920, became a dominant force in Portuguese wine making in the early 20th century with their houses Porta dos Cavaleiros in Dao and Frei Joao in Bairrada. Given the shifting trends in consumer preferences, Bairrada and Dao fell to obscurity in the 1990s when critical influence drove the demand for bigger, extracted, warmer climate wines. As in all things, however, what comes around goes around! *** 90 Points (outstanding) Robert Parker

Reviews:
A supple, charming, dark ruby/purple-colored wine, Quinta do Vesuvio's 1992 Vintage Port offers excellent concentration, a velvety texture, not much weight or tannin, a precocious, penetrating fragrance, sweet fruit, medium to full body, and a gentle finish. It will drink well young and last for 20 years." Robert PArker, Wine Advocate

Taittinger, 1992

Vintage Champagne Matta Label in presentation box

As the years went by, Matta’s work, influenced for a long time by the violence and oppression that sadly marked this era, became subdued and more poetic.

These are some of the characteristics found on the design he created in his homage to Champagne. Matta leads the design with poppies, a well-known symbol of war remembrance and painted them on an ochre background. These flowers represent a need for nostalgia, yet a spirit of continuation all the same. Calligraphic marks, reminiscent of the famous ‘automatic writing’ of the surrealists, run across the design.

The bottle contains a Brut Millésimé 1992, made from a combination of Chardonnay (50 %) and Pinot Noir (50 %).

Taylor Fladgate, 1992

Vintage Port

*** 100 Points - Robert Parker ***
***19/20 Jancis Robinson***

"Taylor's 1992 Vintage Port is unquestionably the greatest young port I have ever tasted. It represents the essence of what vintage port can achieve. The color is an opaque black/purple, and the nose offers up fabulously intense aromas of minerals, cassis, blackberries, licorice, and spices, as well as extraordinary purity and penetration. Yet this is still an unformed and infantile wine. If Chateau Latour made a late-harvest Cabernet Sauvignon, I suspect it might smell like this. In the mouth, the wine is out of this world, displaying layer upon layer of concentrated black fruits backed by well-integrated tannin and structure.

Ryst Dupeyron Armagnac, 1991

Ryst Dupeyron Reserve Joseph Millesime vintage Armagnac
50cl bottle

The grapes used for the 1991 Ryst Dupeyron Armagnac were harvested in that year. This makes it a great choice for anyone with a special connection to 1991, such as a birth year or anniversary.

Tasting Notes
This Armagnac would have been aged for a considerable amount of time in oak barrels, likely around 30 years, allowing it to develop a rich and complex flavour profile. Armagnacs from Ryst-Dupeyron are known for their depth and complexity. Expect notes of dried fruits, vanilla, spices, oak, and perhaps hints of caramel or toffee. The extended aging period typically results in a smooth, well-rounded spirit with a long finish.

Barbaresco, 1991

Renzo Odicino

1991 Barbaresco – Renzo Odicino (Piedmont, Italy)

A quietly beautiful, fully mature Barbaresco that favours perfume and finesse over power. Brick-garnet with a tawny rim, it lifts with dried cherry and cranberry, rose petal and violet, cedar, leather and sweet tobacco, with a hint of orange peel and tea leaf. The palate is elegant and savoury: red-cherry fruit carried by lively acidity; tannins are fine and resolved, giving silk rather than grip. The finish is long and tapering with cherry skin, dried flowers and gentle spice.

From carefully selected, well-stored bottles, this shows the ethereal side of Nebbiolo—more incense and dried flowers than muscle—making it a superb bottle for refined, slow meals and conversation.

Barbaresco, 1991

La Spinona - Beruffi Pietro

This 1991 Barbaresco has developed elegant complexity and the refined character of a mature Nebbiolo. The bouquet features dried cherry, rose petal, tar, truffle, and subtle hints of leather, cedar, and earthy spice. On the palate it is medium-bodied, with softened, fine-grained tannins and balanced acidity. Flavours of dried red fruit, forest floor, and gentle spice lead to a long, savoury, and harmonious finish.

Serving Suggestions:
For optimal enjoyment, stand the bottle upright for 24–48 hours before serving to allow any sediment to settle. Carefully decant the wine to separate it from the sediment.

Vintage Port
Was £119 Black Friday Clearance | damaged label £99

1991 Quinta do Vesuvio. Now Part of Symington family Estates, Quinta do Vesuvio is one of the great Quintas of the Douro. The 1991 Quinta do Vesuvio Vintage shows all the hallmarks of a classic Vintage Port. Intense red colour. Packed with aromas of berry fruits such as blackcurrant and graceful floral hints. On the palate very complex fruit flavours, excellent ripe tannins and a sweet and powerful finish.

Wine Makers Notes:
The heavy rains that fell in the early part of 1991 were to stand the vineyards in good stead for the dry spring and very hot summer which ensued. Following the intense August heat, refreshing showers in early September ensured the grapes achieved a very good state of maturity with high sugar levels.

Toro Albalá

POLEY
Amontillado en rama - 35 Year Old
50cl Bottle
92 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

This extremely old wine proceeds from the winery’s foundational Solera, when José María Toro Albalá began to produce wines in Lagar del Carmen, in 1922. The wine is obtained in a subtle and slow way; it’s the time that induces its transformation. After an ageing of 10 years under a veil of flor in American oak butts, the veil begins to weaken and lose its protection, allowing the start of a long oxidative ageing. A unique wine acknowledged with 92 Robert Parker points.

TASTING NOTES

Sight: Amber and, when shaken, it tints the glass with a beautiful range of copper tones.
Aroma: Very intense, spicy and noble woods in still glass, leading to a glaze touch and fine pastry notes.

Carruades de Chateau Lafite, 1990

Pauillac

Carruades is the second label wine produced by Chateau Lafite-Rothschild.
After fermentation and maceration, the wines are tasted, selected and put together according to their different qualities. This step is very important because this is where we make the difference between the great "Lafite" and the second wine "Carruades de Lafite". The wines are drained off into oak barrels. We use 100% new barrels for the ageing of Lafite. The year after, these same barrels will be used for the Carruades.

Carruades de Château Lafite is the celebrated second wine of the iconic Château Lafite Rothschild, situated in the Pauillac appellation of Bordeaux, France.
