Cockburn Port, 1935

Vintage Port, DOC Douro
Unlabelled, embossed capsule. Level in neck

92 points from the Wine Spectator… 'Superlative finesse in a bottle. Light red, with a claret-like black currant nose, medium-bodied, with superbly balanced plum and cherry flavors, medium soft tannins and a long finish. It is truly wonderful now. One of Cockburn's greatest wines. (Feb-90)' 95 points from the Wine News... 'Intense purple/black hue; holding very well. Lively, forward bouquet of black cherry, dates and a wisp of mint. Loaded with opulent fruit that replicates the nose; ribbons of flavor resonate across the palate with a defined sweetness that coats the finish. A classic vintage port that was heralded when bottled; it hasn’t lost a degree of its intensity.

Vintage Port, DOC Douro
Level in neck | Embossed capsule

The Croft 1935 has a noticeably deep mahogany hue with light amber rim. This is the oldest Croft with vestige of fruit lingering on the nose with hints of macerated red cherry, figs, balsam and liquorice. Complex and compelling, with very good lift. The palate is simply outstanding with immense depth and complexity, beautiful sense of natural balance and harmony with spice, Manuka honey and dates. Massandra, 1935

Gurzuf Rose Muscat, 1935 Vintage, Sotheby's Massandra Collection, Crimea

Sotherbys Massandra Collection

The wineries in Massandra were built during the reign of Czar Nicholas II. During the process, wine caves containing thousands of bottles were constructed beneath the city. This “personal wine cellar” of the Czar contained tens of thousands of bottles. These caves survived the Russian Revolution, both World Wars, the fall of Communism, and Yakov Smirnoff. In 1990, about 13,000 of these bottles – never before available in the West – were put to auction

From the excellent 1935 Vintage, Bottled to commemorate George V Jubilee. The port is tawny with some red in colour. Showing little on the nose, perhaps some hints of concentrated redcurrant. Explodes on the aftertaste with huge fruit flavours dominating - mature and sweet. Incredible finish! An astonishing wine. After 5½ hours in the glass this had even developed hints of tannins!

São Leonardo by Quinta do Mourao

Very Very Old White Port (90 Years)
50cl bottle *** 97 Points- Wine Advocate ***

In 1927, Mario Braga, creator of the project “Quinta do Mourão”, was born. So too was born this amazing wine, bottled 90 years after as a tribute to their beloved father. Miguel Braga, the current owner, has handcrafted traditional wines, made and aged in the original estates in the Douro. This gives the wines a distinctive flavour profile. The Douro profile is more intense, dark, thick, sweet and spicy, with more intense aromas. With the release of a small number of aged tawnies, the market for these wines amongst aficionados has developed markedly in the last decade.

Golden colour. Intense and complex aromas of dried fruits associated with an amazing acidity that provides it an incredible explosion of freshness in the palate.

Fonseca Port, 1934

Vintage Port, Douro
Very Top Shoulder

The house of Fonseca traces its origins to the early nineteenth century. The first evidence of the firm trading in Port is an entry dated 8th April, 1815, in the ledgers of the Real Companhia Velha, the royal monopoly company. This records the purchase of 32 pipes of Port by the firm’s founder, João dos Santos Fonseca. His first documented sale occurred on 14th September, 1815, followed in 1816 by his first overseas shipment.

James Suckling, in his authoritative book on Vintage Port, put it as follows: 'The vintage Ports of Fonseca are perhaps the most consistently great of them all. Not only do they have a striking fleshiness and powerful richness when young, but they retain that youthfulness for decades.
