40 Year Old Burmester

40 Year Old “TORDIZ” Tawny Port presented in a branded gift tube

*** Gold Medal at the 2015 International Wine Challenge ***

We are delighted to offer a UK exclusive on Burmester Colheita Ports.

Bright brown colour, with greenish nuances. Presents a bouquet with intense aromas of dried fruits, delicate spices notes and a sweet touch of honey. In the taste it is full, unctuous and velvety. This wine overflows seduction and an enormous refinement. A feeling that is extended in the long and complex finish.

This 40-year-old wine owes its name, Tordiz, to the confluence of the Torto and Mendiz rivers. It is obtained from wines that have been carefully aged in small oak casks and later blended in a small upstanding oak vat dating from 1864.

40 Year Old Graham's

Tawny Port in Presentation tube.

Graham's 40 Years Old is made from wines of the very highest quality which, following careful selection, are matured in seasoned oak casks of until their peak of maturity is reached. These are among the most demanding and challenging styles of Port to produce requiring great skill and years of experience from the winemaker and blender. It is essential to strike the correct balance between the delicacy and elegance which results from prolonged cask ageing while retaining the fruit quality which lends this old Tawny its structure and longevity.

Golden amber with a pale green tinge at the rim which denotes great quality and class.

40 Year Old Kopke

Tawny Port presented in a Kopke wooden box

***95 Points-cellartracker.com***

Kopke Port is the oldest port house. Established in 1638 by Nicolau Kopke and his son Cristiano, who came to Portugal as representatives of the Hanseatic League, the House has been run through the generations by several representatives of the Kopke family, obtaining an excellent reputation for its wines.

Reviews:
Dark tawny with orangey-red highlights. I wouldn't quite call it mahogany in colour, but it's close. Very dark, and lots of brown.
Nose: As is typical, lots of (to me) Madeira-like notes. Some leather, some dark aromatic wood like sandalwood, some apricot, and a bit of spirit.

40 Year Old Messias

Tawny Port

Very pale amber/tawny/orange colour. Fine and delicate aromas of hazelnuts and candied citrus. Quince marmalade character, delicate in style, with finesse and poise. Seemingly quite dry in style towards the finish (not as obviously rich as some here), and supremely refined.

Calem Port, 1980

Quinta da Foz Vintage Port

This 1980 Vintage Port from Calem has outstanding provenance! This bottle has been stored at the Cale cellars on Porto since bottling until it was acquired by us earlier this year.

The 1980 Calem Quinta da Foz has a beautiful tawny colour indicating maturity. On the nose it has toffee, butterscotch, creme caramel and sweet candy. It is medium bodied and fully mature with jammy red fruit and raisins, again butterscotch notes and caramel which all follow through into a long lingering finish. Superb and ready for drinking now.

Chateau Mouton Rothschild, 1980

Paulliac 1er Cru Grand Classe (Very Top shoulder)

** 92 Points Neil Martin ***

Reviews
"A complete shock to everyone who tasted this blind at La Trouvaille. Tasted alongside Lynch Bages 66, a little fatter on the nose with notes of cedar and cooked meats. Good poise and freshness. The palate has good depth, smooth tannins and quite vivacious. Full of life and vigour. Where does the concentration come from? Who cares - a wine that stuck two fingers up at all its critics who have ever dismissed this wine. Lovely. Tasted February 2004." Neil Martin Wine Journal

Croft Port, 1980

Quinta da Roeda

From the famous Quinta da Roeda vineyards, this 1980 single quinta vintage port has a garnet -tawny appearance. The nose is of dried fruit candy and walnuts. On the palate the wine is mature and at its peak balanced and elegant. The finish is perhaps a little shorter than one would like, but all round this is a excellent value port.

Dao, 1980

Porta dos Cavaleiros

Caves S. Joao, established in 1920, became a dominant force in Portuguese wine making in the early 20th century with their houses Porta dos Cavaleiros in Dao and Frei Joao in Bairrada. Given the shifting trends in consumer preferences, Bairrada and Dao fell to obscurity in the 1990s when critical influence drove the demand for bigger, extracted, warmer climate wines. As in all things, however, what comes around goes around! Sure enough, 20 years later savvy consumers and food-conscious sommeliers are looking for finesse and freshness and heading back to Bairrada and Dao. Wines that when young had a vegetal character,

Sandeman Vintage Port

40 Year Old Tawny Port (presented in Sandeman gift box).

Sandeman is a regular Decanter World Wine Awards Gold Trophy winner for its supremely refined tawnies. This has lovely lifted aromas and flavours of chocolate, covered sultanas and orange peel. Seductive and creamy with perfect poise for its age.

Deep and intense, with aromas of vanilla, oak and honey, Sandeman 40 Year Tawny Port has wonderful tasting notes of dried fruits, spices, and nut. Serve chilled to enjoy each layered flavour to the max.

Dark raisin and dried apricot flavours manifest on this immensely dark, old gold hued wine. Enormous concentration, as with the initially, almost painful acidity that comes through the spirit.

Barbera del Monferrato, 1979

Sale

Vignaioli Piemontesi - sale
| WAS £39.00 | NOW £29.00 |

This 1979 Barbera del Monferrato has a deep ruby hue and a bouquet of ripe plum and cherries, often piqued by a hint of black pepper. Barbera-based wines are known for retaining a balanced acidity even in warmer vintages, making them an ideal partner to tomato-based dishes. These wines are lower in tannin, making them more approachable in their early years. Barbera from Monferrato differs from that made in Asti or Alba in both its provenance and style. Where Alba and Asti produce strongly structured wines, their Monferrato equivalents are more aromatic and often a little less robust.
