Ryst-Dupeyon Armagnac, 1973
Ryst Dupeyron Reserve Joseph Millesime vintage Armagnac
50cl bottle
The 1973 Dupeyron Armagnac is the expression of a single year and has a unique character associated with the year and the cask in which it has been stored. These vintages are bottled at the alcohol level in which they naturally come out of the cask. There is a wonderful contrast between the sweet and sour flavours of wood, amplified by the strong alcoholic degree. Rich palate feeling the alcohol and the concentration of dry plums, spicy with persistent flavour of rancio and of spices, but round, soft and long in the finish. The tannins are very present, but full-bodied and round.
The Maison Ryst-Dupeyon was founded by Joseph Dupeyron in 1905. …

Spanna, 1973
Antoniolo Santachiara
Spanna has often been cited by wine experts as one of Italy’s greatest ageing wines. Spanna’s longevity can be attributed, at least in part, to the addition of smaller amounts of less tannic, more acidic grape varieties. Tasting notes: The nose opens up beautifully after about an hour and the wine has gorgeous ripe and sweet fruit, nice acidity, and perfectly softened tannins.

Taylor's Port, 1973
Crusted Port - Bottled in 1973
Very damaged and fragile labels - bottling date legible
Crusted Port is a very small category, named because of the 'crust' of sediment that it forms in the bottle.
Invented by the British-owned Port houses predominantly for the British Port drinker, it is intended to be a more economical alternative to Vintage or Late Bottled Vintage.
Crusted is a blend of several harvests, which are bottled without being filtered and laid down to mature like Vintage wines. Using this approach allows the manufacturer to use some of the lesser harvests but still produce a good rich full bodied wine at an economical price.
Usually a year is stated on the label which, because the wine was made from a blend of harvests, is the year in which the wine was bottled. …

Chateau Mouton Rothschild, 1972
Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe (top shoulder - labels bin soiled)
Wassily Kandinsky label
Reviews: Stands up well for a 72. This had a deep red-brown color that was consistent throughout. It showed an intense nose of fresh asparagus which carried into the palate where it was joined by notes of celery. This exceeded expectations and was surprising drinkable for the amount of greenness it had. The half-bottle leftover the next day lost a lot of the asparagus/celery notes, having them replaced by some bell pepper and hints of cabernet fruit (cassis). One for the collectors. Eiswein, 1972
Fred Pieroth Binger Bubenstud Eiswein Auslese Half Price Offer
This 1972 Eiswein Auslese is very developed, powerful and quite tertiary nose with aromas of bruised apples, dried stone fruits, some golden raisins, a little bit of burnt sugar and a hint honeyed floral character. The wine is intense, acidic, moderately full-bodied and quite oily on the palate with pretty sweet flavors of pronounced golden raisins, some apple jam, a little bit of oxidative nuttiness, a hint of molasses and a touch of dried apricot. The high acidity makes the wine quite structured and keeps the sweetness at bay. The finish is quite developed and rather oxidative with long flavours. …
