1970 Graham's Port, 1970

Vintage Port (Mid Shoulder Level)

The 1970 Graham's Vintage port is a blockbuster, scoring highly during tastings.

*** 93 Points (Parker) ***

"...a definite Bordeaux-like nose! Well defined, foursquare at first, opening up nicely with maraschino cherries, cloves, burnt wood/embers and bergamot, gaining intensity all the time in the glass. The palate is very harmonious and elegant. Fleshy, harmonious, seductive on the palate with allspice, nutmeg and ginger sprinkled over the viscous finish and finally, freshly rolled tobacco on the aftertaste. Good length, powerful like many of the 1970 ports continue to be. Superb. Drink now-2020+ Neil Martin Wine Journal Tasted September 2009.

1970 Janneau 50 Year Old Armagnac, 1970

Armagnac 1970 Vintage

The great vintages or millésimés of Janneau are the expression of a single year, most commonly of a single cask. Produced exclusively with the single distillation process, they are the quintessence of this precious distillate aged over the years. Each vintage expresses its unique character. These vintages are bottled at the alcohol level in which they naturally come out of the cask. There is a sharp contrast between the sweet and sour flavours of wood, amplified by the strong alcoholic degree. Rich palate feeling the alcohol and the concentration of dry plums, spicy with persistent flavour of rancio and of spices, but round, soft and long in the finish.

50 Year Old Madeira, 1970

50 Year Old Henriques & Henriques Tinta Negra (Comes in Original H&H gift box as illustrated)

The first ever 50 Year Old Tinta Negra is absolutely stunning! This is the 1st time Tinta Negra has ever been seen this way and with ONLY 2,700 (50cl) bottles produced for the entire world market, it looks a pretty amazing offering

2015 saw Tinta Negra promoted to the status of ‘recommended grape’ and thus is now allowed to be mentioned on labels. In addition, a new 50 Year-Old category has been implemented; this is designed to bridge the gap between 15/20 Year-Old Colheitas and much older single-year Madeiras, and offers drinkers the opportunity to buy some properly old cask-aged Madeiras at prices considerably below those of the older vintage bottlings.

Barbera d'Asti, 1970

Barolo, 1970

Dott. Damilano

Barolo is known as the 'king of wines' and is made from the Nebbiolo grape. Heady aromas of rose, leather, vanilla, cherry, pepper, cranberry, strawberry. Fruits are perfectly knitted with the tannins and acidity. It's a powerful wine but remarkably subtle. Don't underestimate it and certainly serve it with food to show at it's best. Nebbiolo has naturally high tannins and acidity, so it will take on full-flavoured, rich foods no problem at all.

Butler Nephew Vintage Port, 1970

Sale

Vintage Port

The 1970 Butler Nephew Vintage is a top quality vintage port produced before the company was purchased by Gonzalas Byas and entered into decline. The wine is dark (60% opaque), light nose of candy and vanilla. Very sweet with a full body and serious backbone. A mixture of black cherries, raisins, dates and licorice on the palate overlaid with a little lavender. The backbone does balances some of the sweetness which leads to a long, long finish. TC (2019).

This House was founded by John Nash in Burmester, Nash & Co in 1730. In 1789 they dissolved partnership and James Butler was taken as partner and the firm became Nach, Butler & Co.

Chateau Cos d'Estournel, 1970

St Estephe, 2nd Growth Classification

The 1970 Cos d'Estournel is a classic Bordeaux that has been cellared well for almost 5 decades.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Tasted at “The Sampler” in South Kensington. It has been quite a few years since I tasted this Cos d’Estournel. This bottle had a much more herbaceous bouquet compared to eight years ago: undergrowth, tree bark, dusty mahogany bureau with vestiges of sweet red fruits eventually rising to the surface. The palate is foursquare and conservative with dusty black fruits and a dry, aloof finish that has its own “classic” charm...(NM) (9/2011)Sweet, cherry infused, almost cloying nose.

Chateau Filhot

Sauternes 2nd Growth Classification

The proprietor de Vaucelles declares just over 6500 cases- of fairly priced, widely distributed wine. For those that find the richer wines of Sauternes simply too much, the lighter, fresher, less challenging Filhot may be the perfect after dinner wine. Deep amber gold. Lovely nose of grapy botrytis and caramel. Long and mature on the palate. Drink soon, but offers a lovely ending to the meal. Tasted 2007
Rating 90/100 (CT)

Chateau Latour, 1970

Pauillac Premiere Grand cru Classe
Level Mid to High Shoulder | Good Labels

The 1970 Latour is one of the top performing wines of the 1970 vintage scoring an impressive 98/100 Parker Points. These bottles have been cellared well for almost 5 decades.

Rating 98 Parker points.
One of the top two or three wines of the vintage (Petrus and Trotanoy are noteworthy rivals). The opaque garnet color is followed by a huge, emerging nose of black fruits, truffles, walnuts, and subtle tobacco/Graves-like scents. Full-bodied, fabulously concentrated and intense, with a sweet inner-core of fruit (a rarity in most 1970 Medocs), and high but well-integrated tannin, this enormously endowed, massive Latour should hit its prime by the end of the century and last for 2-3 decades thereafter.

Chateau Margaux, 1970

Margaux, 1er Grand Cru Classe Half bottle

Michael Broadbent: "A big wine, but unsurprisingly, much more approachable than the Latour...The two most useful notes, and the most recent, once again made at Wagner's verticals, first in 1997, the second three years later. Almost identical notes. Now medium deep, a lovely colour; nose low-keyed but harmonious, sweet, good fruit, slow to open up; medium sweetness and body, rich, good fruit, grip and balance, its sustaining tannins and acidity under control. Last tasted November 2000. 4 stars. Drink or keep." (Michael Broadbent's Vintage Wine, pg 79)

Chateau Mouton Rothschild, 1970

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe
levels high -shoulder.

**93 Points - Robert Parker**

The 1970 Mouton Rothschild had opened magnificently to reveal a classic bouquet of sweet cassis, tobacco, minerals, and exotic spice aromas. Opulent, full-bodied, thick, and juicy, the extraordinary evolution of this particular bottle would make a persuasive argument for long-term decanting. After being perplexed throughout much of this wine's evolution, I was reassured by this bottle.
