1961 Barolo, 1961
Terre del Barolo - Riserva Speciale
Library Release
This is a library release from the cellars of Terre del Barolo.
Barolo is known as the 'king of wines' and is made from the Nebbiolo grape. Heady aromas of rose, leather, vanilla, cherry, pepper, cranberry, strawberry. Fruits are perfectly knitted with the tannins and acidity. It's a powerful wine but remarkably subtle. Don't underestimate it and certainly serve it with food to show at it's best. Nebbiolo has naturally high tannins and acidity, so it will take on full-flavoured, rich foods with no problem at all.

Barbaresco, 1961
Alfredo Prunotto - Montestefano - Riserva
Barbaresco is one of the great wines of Italy's north-western Piedmont region. This aristocratic red has its vineyards situated in the Langhe, on the right-hand side of the Tanaro river and extending from the area north-east of Alba to the communes of Barbaresco, Nieve and Treiso. The dominant variety grown is Nebbiolo, but Dolcetto and Barbera also play a part. The vines are generally grown on limestone-rich marl soils. similar to the Tortonium soils of the Barolo and La Morra areas in Barolo. Similar to its more famous sibling Barolo, Barbaresco is made from 100% Nebbiolo and shares its cult status as one of the finest wines in the world. …

Chateau Canon, 1961
New
St Emilion
One of the greatest vintages of the post-war period. This exceptional vintage has the peculiarity of producing a tiny crop of exceptional quality. Indeed, after spring frosts which cut the burden of the grapes by half, grapes of a perfect maturity and exceptional concentration are harvested in a hot and sunny climate.
Clean, brilliant deep ruby-brick with orange rim. Initial nose showed pleasant, complex cedar, plum, violets and leather, with addition of slight cigar box. palate concurrently shows more plummy fruit. The wine is full-bodied, with ample supple tannins and an extremely long …

Chateau Clerc Milon Mondon, 1961
Grand Cru Classe Pauillac
The 1961 Clerc-Milon from the legendary 1961 vintage is a classic Pauillac, with deep leather and tobacco aromas swirling around a lighter core of sweet cassis, earth and capsicum notes. The palate was completely resolved and almost seemed to melt in the mouth, with soft, barely there tannins and perfectly integrated acidity dripping through lovely, pure notes of cassis and capsicum, earth and mineral, with just a twist of black tea at the finish.
In the 18th century, Château Clerc Milon formed part of the vast estates of the seigneury of Lafite. Sold as a "national asset" in the Revolution, it was acquired in 1789 by the Clerc family, which joined its name to that of Milon, the Pauillac hamlet where the estate is located. …

Chateau Lynch-Bages, 1961
Pauillac 5me Cru Classe
high shoulder
Still a spectacular wine, the 1961 defies mortality. The colour is a dark garnet with orange/amber at the edge. The profound bouquet has the magnetic allure that leaves great Bordeaux unmatched for complexity. Sweet notes of dried fruits, herbs, tobacco, smoke, and roasted meats are followed by an opulently-textured, thick, nearly viscous wine with high glycerin, ripe, jammy fruit, and an intoxicating combination of glycerin, extract, and suppleness. Dolcetto, 1961
Cremosina Reserva Speciale
A native black grape variety of Northern Italy grown almost exclusively in the provinces of Cuneo and Alessandria in Piedmont. It is relatively easy to cultivate, although it is susceptible to fungal diseases. It ripens before Barbera and Nebbiolo and is often grown in high north-facing sites which would be unsuitable for Nebbiolo. The finest Dolcetto wines come from grapes grown on soils rich with white marls, especially those found on the right bank of the River Tauro. The wines generally are low in tannins and acidity and are usually fruity and fragrant, often with hints of almonds.

Graham's Port, 1961
Malvedos Crusted Port
Damaged labels
A very rare single quinta crusted port from Graham's.
Crusted port is usually a blend of port wine from several vintages, although single vintage crusted ports have sometimes been made in the past (the '61 Malvedos featured here being one of these rare examples). Unlike vintage port, which has to be sourced from grapes from a single vintage, crusted port affords the port blender the opportunity to make best use of the varying characteristics of different vintages. Crusted port is bottled unfiltered, and sealed with a driven cork. Like vintage port it needs to be decanted before drinking.
