Warre's Vintage Port, 1974

Late Bottled Vintage Port

This 1974 wine is a Late Bottled Vintage Port style. As the name implies, this is a port that has had some ageing in cask for approximately 7 years prior to being released. You should expect aromas of cranberries and currants alongside fig and milk chocolate notes. On the palate it should be sweet with a balancing acidity and a smooth velvety mouthfeel. This port will need decanting to enjoy at its best.

Ryst Dupeyron Armagnac, 1973

Ryst Dupeyron Reserve Joseph Millesime vintage Armagnac
50cl bottle

The 1973 Dupeyron Armagnac is the expression of a single year and has a unique character associated with the year and the cask in which it has been stored. These vintages are bottled at the alcohol level in which they naturally come out of the cask. There is a wonderful contrast between the sweet and sour flavours of wood, amplified by the strong alcoholic degree. Rich palate feeling the alcohol and the concentration of dry plums, spicy with persistent flavour of rancio and of spices, but round, soft and long in the finish. The tannins are very present, but full-bodied and round.

The Maison Ryst-Dupeyon was founded by Joseph Dupeyron in 1905.

Barbaresco, 1973

Cav. Ceste

In the glass this wine has a solid red core with red/orange on the rim. On the nose, there's cedar, mushrooms, and a bit of light cherry. On the palate, a woody note - teak or rosewood perhaps, with cedar. Rather ethereal. With time, lovely fruit emerges and the wine shows gorgeous, elegant maraschino notes. Mushrooms round out the earthy side of this. Given its age this is still a wonderful, complete wine.

Barolo, 1973

Piero Lanzavecchia

Barolo is known as the 'king of wines' and is made from the Nebbiolo grape. Heady aromas of rose, leather, vanilla, cherry, pepper, cranberry, strawberry. Fruits are perfectly knitted with the tannins and acidity. It's a powerful wine but remarkably subtle. Don't underestimate it and certainly serve it with food to show at it's best. Nebbiolo has naturally high tannins and acidity, so it will take on full-flavoured, rich foods with no problem at all

Bordeaux, 1973

De Beauperat

A classic Bordeaux nose, with tobacco, soil and meat floating around a core of dark plums and cherry aromas. The palate is still just on the right side of drinking nicely, with decent acidity keeping its pleasant, albeit rather simple flavours of cassis and plums rather fresh and lively. A good finish with tones of plum and cherries.
