Barolo, 1962
New
Luigi Calissano
Barolo is known as the 'king of wines' and is made from the Nebbiolo grape. Heady aromas of rose, leather, vanilla, cherry, pepper, cranberry, strawberry. Fruits are perfectly knitted with the tannins and acidity. It's a powerful wine but remarkably subtle. Don't underestimate it and certainly serve it with food to show at it's best. Nebbiolo has naturally high tannins and acidity, so it will take on full-flavoured, rich foods no problem at all.

Bordeaux, 1962
Les Vin Fuseré
Bordeaux, in the south-west of France, needs little introduction to anyone with an interest in wine. One of the world's most prolific wine regions, it also manages to rank among the most famous and prestigious. The secrets of Bordeaux's wine success (other than magical Bordeaux Blend) are its three trump cards: diversity, quality and quantity. The majority of Bordeaux wines are the dry, medium-bodied reds that made the region famous.

Chateau Lafite Rothschild, 1962
Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe, level mid to upper shoulder, bin-soiled labels.
90 Points (Wine Journal)
"Although this has a more mature colour than the Margaux ’62, the nose is in a completely difference league with much better vigour and delineation: faded red-berried fruit, wild strawberry, cedar, a touch of leather and earth. The palate is very well balanced, slightly medicinal on the entry but showing much better fruit concentration than the Margaux, perfectly judged acidity and fine but firm tannins holding everything together. It has tautness on the linear finish that is so classic Lafite and in retrospect, this is the best bottle of Lafite ’62 to have passed my palate. …

Chateau Lynch-Bages, 1962
Pauillac 5me Cru Classe (Level Mid Shoulder)
The 1962 Lynch Bages is medium garnet-coloured with considerable amber at the edge, the flavours were dry and angular, and there was considerable astringent tannin in the finish. Nevertheless, the bouquet was classic Pauillac and Lynch Bages - sweet and cedary, with plenty of herb-tinged black fruits, smoked meat, and game-like notes. It is a medium-bodied effort made in the old, elegant, slightly excessively tannic style of Bordeaux made during this period.

Chateau Yquem, 1962
Sauternes 1er Grand cru Classe,
91 Points Wine Journal.
" Moderate Clear lucid gold with green tints. The nose is very elegant and well defined, touches of wet wool, honey, wood resin and barley sugar (a la Barsac). I wish it had more vigour and complexity, for it is rather overwhelmed by the Coutet and the Suduiraut. The palate is far better than the nose with a lovely creamy, harmonious texture with perfect acidity and balance. Citrus peel, fresh ginger, dried apricot, ginger and orange sorbet with noticeable residual sugar on the finish. This is probably an underrated Yquem given market prices, but the modest nose means I must temper my appraisal. …

Copertino, 1962
Barone Fabio Bacile
Copertino is a DOC of the Puglia wine region in south-eastern Italy. The catchment area centers around Copertino town and stretches 10 miles (16km) north-west to Salice Salentino. The land around Copertino is dominated by vineyards and olive groves – this is Italian agriculture at its most evocative. The red wines produced under this title are robust, often quite tannic, and typically high in alcohol. They are made mostly from Negroamaro grapes, which must make up at least 70% of any blend claiming the Copertino title. Negroamaro has long been recognized as one of the grapes best suited to the terroir in the Salento peninsula, the 'heel' of Italy's 'boot'. …

Dom Perignon, 1962
Oenotheque Champagne
The 1962 vintage’s maturity has been considered advanced enough to be placed among the Oenothèque wines.
This vintage is indeed a fine example of a diversified bouquet. One can even observe different stages in the sensations of the nose during the tasting. First, smoky and woody notes can be perceived. Then, cedar and sandalwood notes complete a palette which is already interesting. After the emergence of slight marmalade flavours, the taster is able to detect a subtle note of hawthorn.
Despite a significant maturity, Dom Pérignon Oenothèque 1962 seems to be endowed with a certain freshness, as it appears bright, fruity and easy on the palate. …

Dow's Port, 1962
Vintage Port
The Dows 1962 is a very rare Vintage Port. The bottles were registered at the institute but never declared. Deeper orange red compared to the 1960. Fine nose of peppery sweet fruit with some balsamic tones, honey cake, beef soup and Indian spices. The fine elegant start of taste is smooth, refined and mouth filling. A well balanced vintage port with medium length. All there in a more approachable style. A very nice vintage port which was just bound to be forgotten once the strong classic 1963’s were ageing in the cellar. Last tasted July 2017. (Christies Tasting Note)

Nebbiolo, 1962
Secco, G. Troglia
The Nebbiolo has a lovely earthy bouquet. The nose has cherries, dark cherries, tar and slight dried rose notes. Complex and layered. Nice acidity. Medium tannins still present. Cherries on the palate too. Nice finish. Great food wine. Nebbiolo is a fickle grape famed as much for its pale appearance as for its tannic character and produces some of the most perfumed and richly flavoured wines. Though generally only medium-bodied, the wines possess rose and anise scented aromatics and deep flavours of cherry, orange peel and subtle green herb tones.

Nuits-Saint-Georges, 1962
Aujoux,
A classic Nuits St. Georges wine is rich and relatively tannic, meaning that it is quite austere in its youth but develops well with age. Tasting notes often refer to flavors of violets, forest berries, leather and earthy notes.
Nuits-Saint-Georges is a town in eastern Burgundy which gives its name to the Cote de Nuits, the northern half of the Cote d'Or wine district. The town has had its own Nuits-Saint-Georges appellation since September 1936, but has been the source of respected red wines for the best part of a millennium.
