Sandeman Vintage Port, 1966
Vintage Port
The Sandeman 1966 is a superb port from a classic vintage. The medium garnet colour has held up quite well with some bricking on the rim, but otherwise this wine is still showing youth and it has the backbone for a long life ahead. Complex layers of cocoa and spice with excellent balance and the velvety mouth- feel that gains extra credit.

Spanna, 1966
Castello di Lozzolo - Berteletti - Riserva
Spanna has often been cited by wine experts as one of Italy’s greatest ageing wines. Spanna’s longevity can be attributed, at least in part, to the addition of smaller amounts of less tannic, more acidic grape varieties. Tasting notes: The nose opens up beautifully after about an hour and the wine has gorgeous ripe and sweet fruit, nice acidity, and perfectly softened tannins.

Taittinger, 1966
Comte de Champagne, Champagne
Amongst Champagne's luxury cuveés and super-premium labels, Taittinger's wines live on one extreme end of the style spectrum. While many top Champagnes can be quite difficult to approach in their youth, with laser-like focus and delineation, even austerity, Taittinger instead tends to be immediately open and welcoming. These are beautiful, delicious Champagnes, with bubbles lazily winding their way up to the surface, inviting you to take another sip.

Taylor's Port, 1966
Vintage Port
Intense ruby. Elegant, fresh nose, finely balanced, redolent of violets. Palate is remarkably balanced as well: intense fruit (figs) in an excellent mineral/tannic frame. Lovely freshness and the flavours continue on the finish. Still has years of great life ahead.

Taylor's Port, 1966
Crusted Port bottled in 1966 by Wine Society
A rare bottling of Taylors Crusted port.
Crusted Port derives its name from the fact that, exactly like Vintage Port, it will throw a 'crust' or natural deposit as it matures in bottle. It will therefore require a simple decanting prior to serving. Stand the bottle upright a few hours before opening so as to allow the deposit to settle and carefully pour the wine into large clean wine glasses.

Valpolicella, 1966
Valtramigna
The Valpolicella zone is bordered to the west by the Bardolino DOC, located along the banks of Lake Garda, which produces similar wines to basic Valpolicella using many of the same grapes. The historical "heart" of Valpolicella winemaking is in the Monti Lessini hills located northwest of the town of Verona. In 1968, the boundaries of the region were extended far eastward towards the DOC production zone of Soave and south to the plains of the northern bank of the Po river and its tributary the Adige.

Vecchio Maniero, 1966
Marchesi di Barolo
This wine from the good 1966 vintage is made with the long lived Nebbiolo grape. this is a black-skinned red wine grape variety most famous for creating the 'tar and roses' scent of Barolo wines from Piedmont, north-western Italy. The grape's very name is evocative of its home among the misty foothills of the western Alps; the nebbia (Italian for 'fog') after which it is named frequently arrives on early October mornings, when the Nebbiolo harvest is in full swing.

Vintage Port
Warre's 1966 Vintage Port has a unique mineral-scented character that gives the port its own complexity and style.
Reviews for 1966 Warre's Vintage Port
91 points Wine Spectator
There is still plenty of fresh, youthful fruit here. Medium ruby-red, with an intense floral and berry nose, medium-bodied, with rich, sweet fruit flavors, medium tannins and a lingering finish. Very good fruit. (JS, Web Only—1998)
Jancis Robinson
Deep, vibrant ruby with very pale rim. Big, broad, rich nose – quite burly and autumnal. More powerful than the 1963 – with more obvious alcohol. …

Warre's Vintage Port, 1966
Vintage port
Excellent Provenance
A well stored example of 1966 Warre Vintage Port
** 90 Points Wine Spectator **
The 1966 Warre... is now beginning to reach its full maturity and is likely to be ready for drinking. As it ages further, it will begin to develop gently into a more tawny style wine. Intense, structured with a nice soft finish." Almost perfect in its maturity. Still delicious.
"A powerhouse port that has been mellowed and opened up by time. Now in its 43rd year, its tannins have softened to reveal dark fruit flavors, herbaceousness and plenty of grip in the finish." Wine Spetator, 2003.
"Masses of rich plums and prunes on the flavour. …

Ryst Dupeyron Armagnac, 1965
Ryst Dupeyron Reserve Joseph Millesime vintage Armagnac
50cl bottle
The 1965 Dupeyron Armagnac is the expression of a single year and has a unique character associated with the year and the cask in which it has been stored. These vintages are bottled at the alcohol level in which they naturally come out of the cask. There is a wonderful contrast between the sweet and sour flavours of wood, amplified by the strong alcoholic degree. Rich palate feeling the alcohol and the concentration of dry plums, spicy with persistent flavour of rancio and of spices, but round, soft and long in the finish. The tannins are very present, but full-bodied and round.
The Maison Ryst-Dupeyon was founded by Joseph Dupeyron in 1905. …

1965 Messias Port
Colheita Single Harvest Tawny Port
Only bottled in 2015, this 1965 Colheita port from Messias has a tawny colour. Fruity and fresh, with a bouquet that brings out the aromas of dried fruits, roasted nuts, wood and spices due to the prolonged time this wine has spent in cask and due to the gradual oxidation which created a soft and harmonious port full of complex flavour characteristics. The finish is long and satisfying.

Barbaresco, 1965
Giorgio Barbero
Barbaresco is one of the great wines of Italy's north-western Piedmont region. This aristocratic red has its vineyards situated in the Langhe, on the right-hand side of the Tanaro river and extending from the area north-east of Alba to the communes of Barbaresco, Nieve and Treiso. The dominant variety grown is Nebbiolo, but Dolcetto and Barbera also play a part. The vines are generally grown on limestone-rich marl soils. similar to the Tortonium soils of the Barolo and La Morra areas in Barolo. Similar to its more famous sibling Barolo, Barbaresco is made from 100% Nebbiolo and shares its cult status as one of the finest wines in the world. …

Barolo, 1965
Barbero Giorgio
Barolo lies just south-west of Alba in Italy's north-western Piedmont region. It is considered one of the finest and longest-lived wines, often referred to as 'the king of wines and the wine of kings'. Wine production is strictly limited to the vineyards located on steep hills around the towns of Barolo, La Morra, Castiglione Falletto, Serralunga d'Alba and Monforte d'Alba, Despite the different characteristics of these wines due to the varied terroir, they do display similar traits. These include a garnet color, powerful structure, firm tannins and high levels of acidity and alcohol, with the capacity to age for many years. …

Barolo, 1965
Giuseppe Contratto
Barolo is known as the 'king of wines' and is made from the Nebbiolo grape. Heady aromas of rose, leather, vanilla, cherry, pepper, cranberry, strawberry. Fruits are perfectly knitted with the tannins and acidity. It's a powerful wine but remarkably subtle. Don't underestimate it and certainly serve it with food to show at it's best. Nebbiolo has naturally high tannins and acidity, so it will take on full-flavoured, rich foods no problem at all.

Chateau Yquem, 1965
Sauternes 1er Grand cru Classe
A good wine. On the nose, bthere is some orange marmalade, honey and spice character in this wine. Turns quite woody, with lots of caramel.
YQUEM NOTES: It was very cold from April to September which dashed hopes for good ripeness. The deluge in late September (100 mm in 8 days) was very worrying, but things changed all of a sudden. The rain stopped and it was finally warm. There were two fine passes from the 3rd to the 12th of October and a third from the 16th to the 20th, however it was difficult to find grapes with high enough sugar levels. It took 22 days in a row of energetic picking …
