Barbaresco, 2015

La Spinetta - Valeirano

"The 2015 Barbaresco Vigneto Valeirano is another striking wine from La Spinetta. Precise and finely cut, the 2015 shows the slightly austere personality that is typical of this cru. Even so, the 2015 possesses tremendous energy and intensity. Sweet spice, crushed flowers, crushed rocks, leather, spice, mint and sweet tobacco grace this exquisite, wonderfully nuanced Barbaresco. The 2015 finishes with real substance and gravitas, both of which bode well for its future in bottle. This may be the most finessed edition of Valeirano ever here. "

Barolo, 2015

Gigi Rosso - Trecomuni

This 2015 Gigi Rosso Barolo Barolo comes from Trecomuni, which is a Cantina Gigi Rosso registered trademark. According to the ancient Piedmontese tradition, in order to obtain a perfect Barolo, one has to source grapes from three different terroir. The Helvetian soil of Serralunga or Monforte will contribute character and longevity, the mixed soil of Barolo, Castiglione or Novello will bring finesse and elegance and finally the Tortonian soil of La Morra or Verduno will deliver fruit and freshness. From the union of three “Communes” this Barolo was born, thus combining all great features of different Barolo terroir soil types.

Barolo, 2015

Vietti - Castiglione

JS 94/100
James Suckling
Plenty of perfume here with abundant roses and violets, as well as spice-dusted red cherries and hints of orange rind. The palate has depth and density with a sense of power and detail to the tannins. Long, dense and fresh.

RP 94/100
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2015 Barolo Castiglione is a soft and elegant expression with marked freshness and delineated fruit. Indeed, Luca Currado maintains that 2015 was not a hot vintage per se, and any jammy notes that might appear in the vintage may have to do with an overzealous approach to leaf pulling during the summer season.

Barolo, 2015

Vietti - Ravera

RP 96/100
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Starting off a bit shy and closed at first, the 2015 Barolo Ravera showed noticeably better in the sample that had been opened a few hours prior to my arrival at the winery for my annual visit. This makes perfect sense as Vietti’s wines are intentionally slow at first but are built to endure the long haul. From the Novello township, this vineyard site is recognized for it power, structure and the uniquely broad approach it shows to the palate. There is a larger span of black fruit at its core. The positioning of the Ravera cru means it is open to the elements and the cold air from the Alps, and the wines result in freshness and mineral character as well.

Barolo, 2015

Massolino - Parussi

95/100
James Suckling

Dark-berry, spice and dried-flower aromas that follow through to a full body, tight and integrated tannins and a long and vivid finish. Very compact and polished. One of the best Parussi I have tasted from here.

95/100
Wine Advocate

This wine was not made in 2014, when this vineyard site in Castiglione Falletto was hit by not one but two violent hailstorms. Thankfully, the 2015 Barolo Parussi comes from a trouble-free growing season and has resulted in one of the best expressions of the cru made by Massolino thus far, with the first vintage produced in 2007. This site sees a unique soil profile, with sand that is much richer in organic materials compared to the estate's historic vineyard sites.

Very fresh and attractive Barolo with abundant red cherries and a wealth of sweet, rose-petal aromas, too. The palate has a very plush, fleshy and juicy core of fruit in the red-cherry zone. The tannins are velvety and long. One of the more approachable 2015s. Drink or hold.

W&S 93/100
Wine & Spirits

This is refreshing and bright for the vintage, with scents of dewy rose petals and crunchy berry flavors. The tannins are fine and firm, their texture like new suede, and notes of orange peel and rusty iron add to the wine’s cool brightness.

Quinta da Boavista Boa-Vista Reserva Douro 2015 Red Wine
92+ Points Wine advocate
SpeciaL offer | was £44.95 | Now £29.50

From the flagship wine from Quinta da Boavista. This is a blend of old vines around 80 years old and new plantings. Aged for two years in new French oak. Beautifully fine, knitted tannins and a finish that just goes on and on. Complex up top with faithful Douro fruit ahead of subtle spice, mocha and tobacco notes.

Quinta da Boavista is one of the most significant and picturesque vineyard estates in the Douro Valley. The Quinta was home to Baron Joseph James Forrester, who in 1843 produced the first demarcated map of the Douro Valley, still used to this day. The estate has passed through the hands of the Offley family, through to Sogrape Vinhos and in 2013, was sold to Lima Smith Lda.

Quinta da Boavista Vinha do Oratorio Vinhas Velas
93 Points Mark Squire (Wine Advocate)

The icon vineyard of Quinta da Boavista, the Vinha do Oratório is formed in high and curved terraces in the shape of an oratory that reach eight meters in height. This vineyard, facing east, has an altitude that varies between 80 and 175 meters and has a mixture of more than 25 Douro grape varieties. With an average age of over 80 years, these vineyards allow us to produce a wine of remarkable concentration and complexity

Located near Pinhão, on the right bank of the Douro river, Quinta da Boavista has an extraordinary view over the river. It is one of the most iconic estates in the demarcated region, known not only for its historical connection with the Baron of Forrester, but also for its 36 hectares of high-quality vines.

Bouchard Père & Fils, 2015

Nuits-Saint-Georges

This 2016 Pinot Noir from Bouchard Pere & Fils Nuits-Saint-Georges is a red Burgundy wine with intense aromas of berry fruit and spices on the nose. Rich, tannic and well structured, this wine develops additional roundness after a few years in bottle. Good ageing potential.

Capital of the Côte de Nuits, this village is the home to the Hospices de Nuits that organizes an important auction of its production every year, as do the Hospices de Beaune. The main street in Nuits-Saint-Georges is named after Fagon, the doctor who treated Louis XIV and prescribed the town's wine for him. This is the most southernly appellation of the Côte de Nuits producing wines rich in tannin which gives them strength,

Calem Port, 2015

Vintage Port - Presented In original Calem gift box as illustrated
90 - 92 Points - Wine Advocate

The Cálem 2015 Vintage Port Wine is noted as having aromas of “black fruit and hints of spice and cocoa” with a “robust and sweet” palate. It is a blend of 30% Touriga Naçional, 30% Touriga Franca, 30% Tinta Roriz and 10% Sousão.

Reviews
90-92 Points Wine Advocate - Mark Squires Aug 17
The 2015 Vintage Port is the only declared vintage in the Sogevinus stable this year. This is a blend of Touriga Nacional (30%), Touriga Franca (30%), Tinta Roriz (30%) and Sousão (10%), coming in at 94 grams per liter of residual sugar. A bit rounder and seemingly more concentrated than the Kopke, its main competitor in the Sogevinus stable this issue, this does a better job of filling the mouth and coating the palate.

Chateau Grand Puy Lacoste, 2015

Pauillac 5me Cru Classe

The 2015 Grand-Puy-Lacoste was an impressive Pauillac from barrel and likewise, it continues to impress in bottle. It has an intense bouquet with blackberry and strawberry fruit laced with cedar and graphite and as I mentioned in my original note, the Merlot component is a little more expressive compared to other vintages. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin and well-judged acidity. This feels so harmonious and caressing, very tensile and poised, fanning out wonderfully with a graphite-infused finish that is perhaps more approachable than recent vintages, just a wonderful wine for long-term aging.
