Dom Perignon, 1990
Dom Perignon Rose Champagne
1990 Dom Pérignon Rosé- Hedonist's Gazette, June 2010: The 1990 Dom Pérignon Rosé, tasted from before dinner, was breathtakingly beautiful, with superb definition, depth and purity to its rich, textured mousse. It provided yet another reminder of just how much Champagne excels in large formats. This was a fabulous bottle I came back to often throughout the evening. It never failed to make a lasting impression.

Veuve Clicquot, 1990
Ponsardin Champagne
The 1990 Veuve Clicquot is... "a medium gold colour, no hints of orange - very fine bubbles that persisted for 1-2 hrs - beautiful old brioche nose with light to moderate oxidation, dried apples and pears, asian spices (Saigon cinnamon), and flinty minerality - full-bodied mouth with loads of very ripe apple/pear fruit, more oxidative flavors than in the nose - great acidity that provided a refreshing youthfulness to a mature champagne - longer finish than most red wines of the same age with a beautiful sweet aftertaste sans any hint of bitterness - I agree with earlier tasting notes that it combined both impressive power with delightful elegance". …

1989 Burmester Port, 1989
Colheita Port
In Burmester gift tube.
*** 93 Points - Robert Parker ***
We are delighted to offer a UK exclusive on Burmester Colheita Ports.
Reviews:
"The 1989 Colheita Tawny Port was bottled in 2015 with 103.6 grams per liter of residual sugar. Fresh and balanced, with a feeling of liveliness, this is more about restraint and elegance than mid-palate weight, but it shows fine concentration of flavor on the finish and delivers more than adequate mid-palate concentration as well. It also has more power than anticipated on first taste. Tightening fast as it warms, its fresh feel if laced with just a touch of Whiskey that provides the perfect counterweight to the tension on the finish and fine flavors. …

Bairrada, 1989
Quinta do Poço do Lobo
Caves S. Joao, established in 1920, became a dominant force in Portuguese wine making in the early 20th century with their houses Porta dos Cavaleiros in Dao and Frei Joao in Bairrada. Given the shifting trends in consumer preferences, Bairrada and Dao fell to obscurity in the 1990s when critical influence drove the demand for bigger, extracted, warmer climate wines. As in all things, however, what comes around goes around! Sure enough, 20 years later savvy consumers and food-conscious sommeliers are looking for finesse and freshness and heading back to Bairrada and Dao. Wines that when young had a vegetal character, …

Baron de Sigognac, 1989
Armagnac (Comes in original Sogognac Box as illustrated)
The company behind this Armagnac owns one of the most important stocks of old vintages in the whole region. They are growers as well as distillers and specialise in sourcing and ageing old casks of Armagnac.
The Armagnac is made from a blend of Baco and Ugni Blanc, the predominant grapes used in the production of Armagnac. The distillation takes place in a column still to an alcohol strength of about 54%. The spirit is then aged in local black oak casks. The alcohol content then reduces naturally to about 40% after about forty years.

Chateau Musar, 1989
Bekaar Valley, Gaston Hochar
The 1989 Musar is a blend of Cinsault, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache and Carignan from this well-known and highly regarded Lebanese winery.
"Brownish ruby. Nose: Animal, meaty, iron (these typical Musar notes seem milder, more balanced here compared to younger vintages) mixed with sweet black fruit and light herbal notes. Similar notes on the palate, round, tart, good structure. Clearer mushroom notes with time to breathe but not much further development. " Cellar Tracker Review Average 91 Points,
Chateau Musar is often referred to as the Lafite of the Lebanon. Wine maker Gaston Hochar defied the odds producing a string of great wines during the Lebanon War. …

Kopke Port, 1989
Colheita Port (Includes Kopke presentation box)
Kopke Port is the oldest port house. Established in 1638 by Nicolau Kopke and his son Cristiano, who came to Portugal as representatives of the Hanseatic League, the House has been run through the generations by several representatives of the Kopke family, obtaining an excellent reputation for its wines.
Review:
Intense amber-tawny colour. Presents a complex and wonderfully elegant bouquet, standing-out the dried fruits, the vanilla and the involving roasting nuances. In the mouth it is dense and large, but at the same time, it is soft and delicate. Reveals a strong complexity and an amazing balance. …

Kopke Port, 1989
Vintage Port
A very rare bottle of Kopke VP. This is one of those noses where you can keep going back and finding things you think it smells like. I really like that. A bit punchy initially with it's alcohol, the finish is where this wine really shines. Starts off as fresh popcorn, turning hazelnuts and honey, then granola and brown sugar..... off into a 40-second long finish with various evolution in which I am sure different people would find different things. Truly delicious. This wine is very, very good. I love it when a wine forces you to think about it, and this does just that. Captivating, complex, intense and delicious. …

Warre's Vintage Port, 1989
Quinta Da Cavadinha Vintage Port
Brick-red core, broad amber rim; fine, perfumed, nicely evolved floral, esteva (gum cistus) aromas, open but possibly with a bit more to give; soft, sweet, and fully mature, with beautifully balanced cherry fruit. For me, the best of the '79.

Dom Perignon, 1988
Champagne

Taylor's Port, 1988
Late Bottled Vintage Port
Late Bottled Vintage port is from a single year. The wine ages 4-6 years in old oak casks (opposed to Vintage that ages 2-3). LBV fills the gap between the rubies and the vintage ports since a Ruby Port should be drunk quite young and a great Vintage Port may need 15 to 20 years to really open up and show its splendour. This led to the idea in the 1960s to age the wine 4 to 6 years in large casks before bottling it, thereby producing a wine with the style of a Vintage Port with its deep colour and concentration of fruit but with a more mature character caused by the longer ageing in wood.

Reviews: "Very typical Taylor's style on the nose, rather reserved, spicy and stylish fruit. Gentle, and a lovely silkiness to at the start. Fine fruit, very stylish composition. Appropriate grip and texture. Lots of tannin evident on a second taste. This is rather good. From a Port Styles tasting. 16.5-17+/20 (November 2007)" Wine Doctor, Online

Veuve Clicquot, 1988
Ponsardin Brut Champagne
The 1988 Veuve Clicquot scores an impressive 92 points on cellartracker.com. "Slight spritz on opening but no 'pop'. Warm canary yellow with a burnished gold undertone and very fine streams of microscopic bubbles. Very complex nose including some rancio, as expected, but also merde, hay, apricot, butterscotch and dried mushroom. Crisp and cool entry. Nicely full and concentrated in the mouth. Lots of mature flavours of yellow stone fruits, more hay, rancio, wet stone and tingly acidity. Complex with a long, off dry finish. Rather intriguing and very tasty. Very well balanced. Quite delicious actually. …
