Cossart Gordon Madeira, 1934
Bual Madeira
A bottling of Madeira from the 1934 from Cossart, the oldest company in the Madeira wine business.
Sercial is the name of a white grape grown in Portugal, especially on the island of Madeira. It has given name to the dryest of the four classic varieties of Madeira fortified wine.
The anglicised name Sercial came to be associated with the Madeira style rather than the grape variety, being the lightest, most acidic and delicate expression of Madeira that takes the longest to mature.

Niepoort Port, 1934
Colhieta Port 1934 Vintage
99 Points Robert parker
Reviews
"The 1934 is an example of a wine in bottle a long, long time—fortunately
Niepoort’s Colheitas do have normal, long corks. If this handsome beast is this
dense, concentrated and powerful now, I can barely imagine what it must have
been like when it was bottled. My mouth waters to think of it. Remember, too,
that this had less than 50 years in cask. What would a version bottled today be
like? Besides the notable concentration and viscosity, it has powerful acidity to
cut through its palate and make it seem bright and vibrant as well, with some
brandy in the background. …

Rutherford and Miles Madeira, 1934
New
Bual Madeira
The firm that was eventually to become Miles Madeira was originally known as Rutherford & Brown, established on the Island of Madeira in 1814.
In 1856 Henry Price Miles left England with his family and arrived in Madeira. Having worked as an apprentice since the age of 12 under the tutelage of James Rutherford, he acquired sound knowledge and experience of the workings of the Madeira trade. In 1872, the Rutherfords left for London (due to Phylloxera which decimated most of the vineyards in Madeira) and started up a wine importing business at the Old Trinity House in Waterlane. Gonzales Byas Vintage Port, 1932
Vintage Port
This famous sherry producer came to Oporto in 1895 and started to ship port in 1896. From 1901 they purchased their wines from Quinta do Roriz. The port operation was purchased by Sandeman in 1989 and it no longer exists as a trading name.
The 1932 is light tawny in colour with molasses and caramel on the nose. The port is light bodied and the sugar and caramel are evident in the taste. There is some extra complexity in the mouth and the port has a good long finish. Rating 18/20 VWP tasting.
