Chateau Duhart Milon Rothschild, 1996

Pauillac 4th Growth Classification

*** 92 Points Wine Advocate ****

Reviews
"The 1996 Duhart-Milon-Rothschild is aging in wonderful fashion, to wit, a straight down the fairway Pauilliac. Now at 20 years of age, it has developed a fresh and very brine-scented bouquet with plenty of undergrowth and bell pepper aromas. You could almost imagine a bit of Loire Cabernet Franc in here! The palate is medium-bodied with a gentle grip on the entry, impressive body and backbone, likewise more than enough freshness on the structured finish laced with white pepper and bell pepper. Very classic in style, this is a Duhart for traditionalists, but I for one appreciate its style.

D'Oliveiras Madeira, 1996

Malvasia

***Gold Medal-Concours Mondial Bruxelles***
*** 17/20 Jancis Robinson ***

"Ochre/walnut-skin colour. Complex mix of sweetness and bitter mocha. Very sweet and still so fresh. Like liquidised raisins and orange peel in dark caramel." Jancis Robinson

Madeira is made on the volcanic island of the same name situated in the Atlantic ocean some 400 miles off the North Africa coast. The sub-tropical island was discovered in 1419 by Portuguese word for wood or timber. In 1807, John Blandy was posted to the island as part of the British Army garrison sent to Madeira to thwart any invasion attempt by Napoleons forces.

Veuve Clicquot, 1995

Veuve Clicquot La Grande Dame Brut in presentation carton

**Robert Parker: 92 points**

Pale gold-green colour, with brilliant reflections, effervescence is delicate and extremely steady. On the nose there are dominant floral notes (mint and white flowers) mingled with hints of fresh fruit (especially citrus), followed by notes of vanilla and nougat. On the palate, the Pinot Noir reveals its personality through dominant fruit notes (white peaches, grapefruit). The balance is an ideal combination of freshness and vigor, with a long finish.

Veuve Clicquot, 1993

La Grand Dame Champagne

92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
"Very ripe aromas of pear, apple, cinnamon, mace, toast and honeysuckle. Large-scaled, rich and mouthfilling, with a flavor of toffee apple. This is thick with extract but can't quite equal the best Grande Dame vintages for concentration and thrust. But still impeccably made, very rich Champagne. (11/ 2001)
91 points Wine Enthusiast
Young, with a taut citrus, ginger, mineral, soice and floral bouquet, this bright and light-on-its-feet wine has lots of dimension. Yellow fruit flavors, anise accents and fine fruit-to-acid balance mark the cream, yet airy palate.

1992 D'Oliveiras Madeira

Malvasia (Price includes leather effect gift box with silk liner as illustrated)

A rich, velvety smooth Malvazia with sweet caramel, chocolate orange and malted chocolate notes. Well judged balancing acidity teases out the finish and keeps the sweetness in check.
* Review by Sarah Ahmed- www.thewinedetective.co.uk *

Try this luscious sweet and full-bodied Madeira with stewed meat dishes with sweet and spicy elements. It pars marvellously with intense and rich dark chocolate as well as nutty and caramel desserts. Why not serve at the very end of the meal with a blue cheese such as stilton or Roquefort. Finally, a Malvasia is also delicious with cigars.

Baron de Sigognac, 1990

Armagnac
Includes Original Sigognac Wooden Box

The company behind this Armagnac owns one of the most important stocks of old vintages in the whole region. They are growers as well as distillers and specialise in sourcing and ageing old casks of Armagnac.

This 1990 vintage Armagnac is made from a blend of Baco and Ugni Blanc, the predominant grapes used in the production of Armagnac. The distillation takes place in a column still to an alcohol strength of about 54%. The spirit is then aged in local black oak casks. The alcohol content then reduces naturally to about 40% after about forty years.

Cabernet, 1990

Quinta do Poço do Lobo

Caves S. Joao, established in 1920, became a dominant force in Portuguese wine making in the early 20th century. Given the shifting trends in consumer preferences, Bairrada and Dao fell to obscurity in the 1990s when critical influence drove the demand for bigger, extracted, warmer climate wines. As in all things, however, what comes around goes around! Sure enough, 20 years later savvy consumers and food-conscious sommeliers are looking for finesse and freshness and heading back to Bairrada and Dao. Wines that when young had a vegetal character, pronounced tannins and high acidity aged gracefully when kept in perfect condition at the winery for 20-40 years,

Chateau Guiraud, 1990

Sauternes
91 Points - Parker
91 Points - Wine Spectator

This is a classic Sauternes with a great deal of sweetness, plenty of ripeness, and obvious aromas of toasty, smoky new oak. The wine exhibits finesse and complexity, a style of Sauternes that will have its admirers, particularly among those who like to drink these wines as an aperitif.

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
A showy display of power, highly extracted, smoky, buttery, pineapple and orange-scented fruit, lavish quantities of toasty new oak, and unctuously thick, massive flavors and texture. This huge wine avoids being overbearing because of its adequate acidity. (4-1995).

All 13 varieties of the appellation have been organically grown here since the sixties.

1990 was a fantastic year for Rhone Wines and the Beaucastel has striking colour. The nose is profound and sweet, with black truffle, under-wood, and earthy notes. The mouth is fruity, fleshy and round, with soft tannins. It can be drunk but will improve with time.
