Quinta do Vesuvio Vintage Port, 1994
Vintage Port
94 Points (outstanding) Wine Journal ***
Reviews: "This has an ethereal nose, nice lift with secondary aromas beginning to come through, with blackberry leaf, dried orange peel, a touch of walnut and honey. Expressive, if a little too open-knit. There is a hint of glue just in the background but it does not get in the way. The palate is very well balance, quite suave with very fine tannins, with subtle hints of cloves, dried herbs and a touch of capsicum with elegant very supple finish. Excellent. Drink now-2035." Chateau Latour, 1993
Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe
A terrific wine for the vintage, Latour's 1993 reveals an opaque purple color, a backward, cedar, black walnut, cassis, and earth-scented nose, medium to full body, gorgeously rich, concentrated fruit, moderately high tannin (but no astringency), and a sweet, long, powerful finish. The wine does not possess any of the vegetal, green pepper characteristics of the vintage, nor any hint of hollowness or harshness. This wine may prove to merit an even higher rating. Is this vintage the modern day clone of the 1967 and 1971?

Chateau Yquem, 1993
Sauternes 1er Cru Classe
The 1993 Chateau Yquem is a beautiful, slightly golden yellow, this wine is still very young to express much on the initial nose. After swirling, and even more so after a few minutes in the glass, there come scents of citrus, raisins and also more floral aromas with delicate lime flower. These are still early days and time is needed for these impressions to develop. In the mouth the great quality and potential are obvious. The attack is round, and the volume quickly fills the whole mouth. What sweetness and what pleasure - with just enough acidity. Flavours of mandarin, apricot, fruit paste, then the vanillary, lightly grilled notes associated with the long élevage in barrel. …

Tokaji, 1993
Tokaji Aszu Szt. Tamas 1993
Hungary’s most famous dessert wine is Tokaji the legendary sweet elixir. It can only be spoken in the superlative about this wine, as it is a medicine, a real nectar. The name Tokaji (which is of Protected Designation of Origin) is used for labeling wines from this wine district. The location of the region has a unique climate, beneficial to this particular viniculture, due to the protection of the nearby mountains, long warm autumns and mists that come in from the River Bodrog, creating perfect conditions for noble rot. Creating the botrytised ('aszú') grapes for which the region is famous. A wonderful sweet wine from this renowned producer. …

Chateau Margaux, 1992
Margaux, 1er Grand Cru Classe
The 1992 Margaux displays an impressively saturated, dark ruby/purple color, and a fragrant bouquet of cassis, vanillin, and floral scents. The wine is smooth, supple, wonderfully ripe, and seductive, with medium body, low acidity, and light tannin in the finish. It is drinking extremely well. Some tasters will no doubt rate it even higher than I have, given its elegance and layers of ripe, generous fruit that are presented in a medium-bodied format. This impressive wine should drink well for 10-15 years. Robert Parker, Wine Advocate # 96

Chateau Montbrun, 1992
Margaux
Brick rim with a light brick red core. Initially the nose was fresh and very sweet. Then developing in the glass with notes of liquorice, caramel and increasing acidity, which eventually breaks down the nose. The palate is still surprisingly fresh. This must have been very attractive in the 1980's. Growing old gracefully and still drinking well.

D'Oliveiras Madeira, 1992
Boal Madeira
"Aromas of raisin and coffee. Taste corresponds to aromas, but adds fresh mint and nuts. Sweet, but with balancing acidity. Complex.
By far the best of the few Madeiras I have tasted. (92 points)
Near perfect with tiramisu and desserts made with cream and dried fruits.

Chateau Lafite Rothschild, 1991
New
Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe
Score: 86 Points
Lafite's light-bodied 1991 possesses moderate ruby color, a solid inner core of fruit, as well as potentially excessive tannin for its size and constitution. The wine exhibits Lafite's subtle personality with a leafy, tobacco, lead-pencil nose intertwined with sweet aromas of cassis. Dry, austere, and lacking length, it should turn out to be a good representation of Latife-Rothschild in this so-so year.

Chateau Latour, 1991
Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe
The Latour 1991 is a terrific wine for an off-vintage scoring 90 points by Wine Advocate.
Review: " Tasted blind from double magnum at the chateau, it is a long time since I have encountered this off-vintage Latour, which must rank as one of the finest of the vintage. The nose retains a touch of greenness that cannot be ignored; yet there are also attractive aromas of cigar box, graphite and sous-bois. The palate appears to have softened in the last few year and is not as brutish as I recall and there is a lovely spiciness towards the finish. I would not leave it for a long time, but it must rank as one of the finest in this forgettable year. …

Chateau Mouton Rothschild, 1991
Pauillac 1st Growth Classification
Robert Parker: 86
The 1991 exhibits a moderately dark ruby/purple color, as well as a promising and complex nose of such classic Pauillac aromas as lead pencil, roasted nuts, and ripe cassis. The initial richness is quickly obliterated by frightful levels of tannin, and a tough, hard finish. Although there is an interesting and alluring dimension to this wine, the tannin level is excessively high and the wine is likely to dry out after 10-15 years of cellaring. Readers who admire austere, fruitless wines will rate it higher.
Wine Spectator: 89
Incredibly fine and subtle for the vintage with tobacco, black currant and berry aromas and flavors, medium body and a long flavorful, silky finish. …

Chateau Yquem, 1991
Sauternes 1er Cru Classe
Notes from Ch Yquem. A vintage marked by frost on the 21st of April that fortunately spared several plots of slope vineyards at Yquem. Summer was warm and dry, but September was rainy. The harvest was over in three passes which brought in only a small amount of grapes, but of very good quality. This experience shows what an advantage great terroirs have when spring frosts occur. In light of the weather that year, the calibre of 1991 Yquem exceeded our expectations, and benefited from a particularly fine summer.
Yquem's 1991 is a beautifully made, mediumgold-colored wine with a gorgeous nose of creme brulee, roasted coffee, and seet, honeyed pineapple and other assorted fruits. …
