Barolo, 2015

Massolino - Serralunga d'Alba

JS 93/100
James Suckling

Very fresh and attractive Barolo with abundant red cherries and a wealth of sweet, rose-petal aromas, too. The palate has a very plush, fleshy and juicy core of fruit in the red-cherry zone. The tannins are velvety and long. One of the more approachable 2015s. Drink or hold.

W&S 93/100
Wine & Spirits

This is refreshing and bright for the vintage, with scents of dewy rose petals and crunchy berry flavors. The tannins are fine and firm, their texture like new suede, and notes of orange peel and rusty iron add to the wine’s cool brightness.

Barolo, 2015

Massolino - Parussi

95/100
James Suckling

Dark-berry, spice and dried-flower aromas that follow through to a full body, tight and integrated tannins and a long and vivid finish. Very compact and polished. One of the best Parussi I have tasted from here.

95/100
Wine Advocate

This wine was not made in 2014, when this vineyard site in Castiglione Falletto was hit by not one but two violent hailstorms. Thankfully, the 2015 Barolo Parussi comes from a trouble-free growing season and has resulted in one of the best expressions of the cru made by Massolino thus far, with the first vintage produced in 2007. This site sees a unique soil profile, with sand that is much richer in organic materials compared to the estate's historic vineyard sites.

Barolo, 2015

Sobrero
Special Offer | was £59 | Now £29

Barolo lies just south-west of Alba in Italy's north-western Piedmont region. It is considered one of the finest and longest-lived wines, often referred to as 'the king of wines and the wine of kings'. Wine production is strictly limited to the vineyards located on steep hills around the towns of Barolo, La Morra, Castiglione Falletto, Serralunga d'Alba and Monforte d'Alba, Despite the different characteristics of these wines due to the varied terroir, they do display similar traits. These include a garnet color, powerful structure, firm tannins and high levels of acidity and alcohol, with the capacity to age for many years.

Barolo, 2015

Vietti - Lazzarito

JS 96/100
James Suckling

This is a very youthful Barolo that has attractive, fragrant perfume with freshly picked roasting herbs and a strong, central thread of ripe cherries and red plums. The pure and concentrated palate frames intense plum and cherry flavors in long, unwavering tannins that deliver rich, strong and seamless into the finish. Exceptional quality and built for aging. Try from 2025.

RP 96/100
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Opening to a beautifully floral bouquet, the 2015 Barolo Lazzarito delivers fragrant tones of violets, wild rose and a touch of orange blossom. As is the norm at Vietti,

Barolo, 2015

Gigi Rosso - Trecomuni

This 2015 Gigi Rosso Barolo Barolo comes from Trecomuni, which is a Cantina Gigi Rosso registered trademark. According to the ancient Piedmontese tradition, in order to obtain a perfect Barolo, one has to source grapes from three different terroir. The Helvetian soil of Serralunga or Monforte will contribute character and longevity, the mixed soil of Barolo, Castiglione or Novello will bring finesse and elegance and finally the Tortonian soil of La Morra or Verduno will deliver fruit and freshness. From the union of three “Communes” this Barolo was born, thus combining all great features of different Barolo terroir soil types.

Quinta da Boavista Boa-Vista Reserva Douro 2015 Red Wine
92+ Points Wine advocate

From the flagship wine from Quinta da Boavista. This is a blend of old vines around 80 years old and new plantings. Aged for two years in new French oak. Beautifully fine, knitted tannins and a finish that just goes on and on. Complex up top with faithful Douro fruit ahead of subtle spice, mocha and tobacco notes.

Quinta da Boavista is one of the most significant and picturesque vineyard estates in the Douro Valley. The Quinta was home to Baron Joseph James Forrester, who in 1843 produced the first demarcated map of the Douro Valley, still used to this day. The estate has passed through the hands of the Offley family, through to Sogrape Vinhos and in 2013, was sold to Lima Smith Lda.

Calem Port, 2015

Vintage Port - Presented In original Calem gift box as illustrated
90 - 92 Points - Wine Advocate

The Cálem 2015 Vintage Port Wine is noted as having aromas of “black fruit and hints of spice and cocoa” with a “robust and sweet” palate. It is a blend of 30% Touriga Naçional, 30% Touriga Franca, 30% Tinta Roriz and 10% Sousão.

Reviews
90-92 Points Wine Advocate - Mark Squires Aug 17
The 2015 Vintage Port is the only declared vintage in the Sogevinus stable this year. This is a blend of Touriga Nacional (30%), Touriga Franca (30%), Tinta Roriz (30%) and Sousão (10%), coming in at 94 grams per liter of residual sugar. A bit rounder and seemingly more concentrated than the Kopke, its main competitor in the Sogevinus stable this issue, this does a better job of filling the mouth and coating the palate.

This 2015 sweet white wine from Barsac is 100% Semillon this year, and retains a lovely freshness. Textured and with plenty of noble rot in evidence, it displays notes of orange peel and apricots. Intense and scented with a finish that goes on and on.

Chateau Grand Puy Lacoste, 2015

Pauillac 5me Cru Classe
92 Points -Vinous.com

The 2015 Grand-Puy-Lacoste was an impressive Pauillac from barrel and likewise, it continues to impress in bottle. It has an intense bouquet with blackberry and strawberry fruit laced with cedar and graphite and as I mentioned in my original note, the Merlot component is a little more expressive compared to other vintages. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin and well-judged acidity. This feels so harmonious and caressing, very tensile and poised, fanning out wonderfully with a graphite-infused finish that is perhaps more approachable than recent vintages, just a wonderful wine for long-term aging.

Domaine de Chevalier, 2015

Graves Pessac-Leogan

Olivier Bernard has transformed Domaine de Chevalier during his tenure. In the early days, an ambitious re-planting program was undertaken, which took many years before the fruits of his labours could be enjoyed. Now the estate is in superb health and it seems that Olivier can turn out a great red and white, vintage after vintage. The 2015 is gorgeous; a profound yet reserved Domaine de Chevalier that reveals itself slowly. Initially it is understated with notes of smoky cassis. As it opens up, it displays damsons and raspberry liqueur fruit. It is subtle wine of charm and sophistication with a latent power that will help it to age gracefully for decades.
