Distilled 28th may 1969
Bottle 118 of 189
Drawn from cask 301144 20th October 2004.

Kinclaith had the distinction of being the last malt distillery to be built in Glasgow. It was part of the complex housing the Strathclyde grain distillery. after completion in 1957, the vast bulk of its production presumably went into the Long John Blends.

Chateau Latour, 1967

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe - Level in neck

***18.5/20 Jancis Robinson***
***92 Points-CellarTracker***

Reviews
Magnum . For me, the star of the evening. So complete, so much at the height of its powers, so dense yet fresh.I couldn't help thinking of that ad for menthol cigarettes - 'pure as mountain stream' was the slogan, wasn't it? Sweet and richly flattering without being remotely heavy. It's possible that in bottle sizes this wine is much more developed. Jancis Robinson

"Unquestionably the best wine produced in the Medoc in 1967, the Latour has dark ruby color with some browning at the edges, a medium- to full-bodied feel, plenty of black currant fruit, and some light, soft tannins still present.

Bordeaux, 1966

Charles Coureau

Bordeaux, in the south-west of France, needs little introduction to anyone with an interest in wine. One of the world's most prolific wine regions, it also manages to rank among the most famous and prestigious. The secrets of Bordeaux's wine success (other than magical Bordeaux Blend) are its three trump cards: diversity, quality and quantity. The majority of Bordeaux wines are the dry, medium-bodied reds that made the region famous.

Dow's Port, 1966

Vintage Port
Berry Brothers label | Level base of neck or better.

The 1966 Dow Vintage Port was the second vintage to be produced after the Symington Family took over the estate in 1961. The 1966 vintage is one of the most consistently high regarded vintages of the 20th Century and the Dow's is an outstanding port.

"This is an extraordinary house that seems to have been particularly successful with its vintage port since 1977. The 1966 is a top success for that vintage; in fact, it would be hard to find a better port from that year." Robert Parker, Wine Buyer Guide.

Fonseca Port, 1966

Vintage Port
Berry brothers Label | Excellent Provenance | High Fill

The Fonseca 1966 Vintage Port is one of my selections for a "Port Legends" line up. This is the head of the field in what was an outstanding vintage. Whilst 50 years on the 1963's have started to wane, the 1966 still has a long road ahead of them. The 1966 Fonseca impresses from the start - still deep red with a beautiful, harmonious bouquet of morello cherry, cedar, spice, tobacco, coffee good complexity in the mouth thick and chewy with plenty of fruit and fully integrated tannins. Slightly hot aftertaste, but then a long and flavoursome sweet finish. Very long and delicious. Extremely impressive.

Graham's Port, 1966

Vintage Port - Level very Top Shoulder

Graham's is a great port house, producing one of the deepest-coloured and sweetest styles of vintage port. Along with Taylor's and Fonseca, Graham's has probably been the most consistent producer of great port in the post- World War II era. Their vintage ports are truly sublime and sumptuous. The 1966 is full, vigorous, rich and classy on the palate. Not too sweet. This is a big concentrated, very fine example. Bags of life ahead of it.

Janneau, 1966

Armagnac 1966 Vintage

The 1966 Janneau Armanac is the expression of a single year and has a unique character associated with the year and the cask in which it has been stored. These vintages are bottled at the alcohol level in which they naturally come out of the cask. There is a wonderful contrast between the sweet and sour flavours of wood, amplified by the strong alcoholic degree. Rich palate feeling the alcohol and the concentration of dry plums, spicy with persistent flavour of rancio and of spices, but round, soft and long in the finish. The tannins are very present, but full-bodied and round.

Taylor's Port, 1966

Vintage Port

A superb port from a classic vintage. The medium garnet colour has held up quite well with some bricking on the rim, but otherwise this wine is still showing youth and it has the backbone for a long life ahead. Complex layers of cocoa and spice with excellent balance and the velvety mouth- feel

Intense ruby. Elegant, fresh nose, finely balanced, redolent of violets. Palate is remarkably balanced as well: intense fruit (figs) in an excellent mineral/tannic frame. Lovely freshness and the flavours continue on the finish. Still has years of great life ahead.

Baron de Sigognac, 1965

Armagnac 1965 Vintage (Comes in original Sigognac Box as illustrated)

Baron de Sigognac 1965 Vintage Armagnac has a beautiful reddish amber colour with a fine and elegant nose that is powerful and harmonious with notes of wood, candied orange and vanilla. Bold and elegant in the mouth with a rich structure and aromas of dried fruits. Well balanced with a long and spicy finish.

Armagnac is a grape brandy from the Gascony region of South-Western France. Its closest relative is cognac, another grape brandy from an appellation located about 100 miles north of Armagnac. Armagnac even though it is related to and often confused with cognac, armagnac is very different with regards to its grapes, terroir, distillation, élevage, blending, aromas, tastes and textures.

Chateau Yquem, 1965

Sauternes 1er Grand cru Classe

A good wine. On the nose, bthere is some orange marmalade, honey and spice character in this wine. Turns quite woody, with lots of caramel.

YQUEM NOTES: It was very cold from April to September which dashed hopes for good ripeness. The deluge in late September (100 mm in 8 days) was very worrying, but things changed all of a sudden. The rain stopped and it was finally warm. There were two fine passes from the 3rd to the 12th of October and a third from the 16th to the 20th, however it was difficult to find grapes with high enough sugar levels. It took 22 days in a row of energetic picking

Chateauneuf du Pape, 1965

Brotte e Armerier

The red wines of Chateauneuf-du-Pape blossom and reach their prime between their third and fifth year, but their potential for aging is over ten years and more according to the vintage and storage conditions. Their color changes from intense garnet-purple in the early years to ruby after some cellaring. These wines are structured, with powerful and complex aromas of ripe fruit, mushrooms, truffles, underbrush, spicy notes, and wild animals.

Amarone della Valpolicella, 1964

Masi

This wine is made from grapes harvested in various vineyards located on hills in the Valpolicella zone (Mezzane and Tregnago hills). Different sources and different grape varieties are important to obtain well-balanced wines with the fine structure that only a few single areas in the Valpolicella zone can provide. Notes: Color: strong ruby red. Clear and transparent. Bouquet: notes of vanilla and ethereal airs depending on the period of aging in the barrel; notes of sweet fruits such as currants, blueberries, cherries depending on the varieties of grapes. Flavor: wine with a velvety, raisiny character combined with the structure and typical stylish bitterness to give it good balance.

Chateau Mouton Rothschild, 1964

Pauillac Premiere Grand Cru Classe (Henry Moore label)

- From magnum: Surprisingly good as I was not expecting much based on drinking other disappointing 1964 Bordeaux over the years. However, HS fill with pretty good cork was in beautiful shape. Color was brick red and showed nice tart cherries and fresh earthy aromas. The flavor profile showed reasonable concentration and while a bit earthy and a tad acidic, was full of dried red fruits and wonderful spices. While tannins were fully resolved the acid kept this reasonably fresh and inviting. A nice long rustic earthy finish kept me coming back for more.

Giro, 1964

Vino Liquoroso di Sardegna

Girò is a red Italian wine grape variety that is grown on Sardinia and used mostly in the production of fortified wines in the Giro di Cagliari Denominazione di origine controllata (DOC). The grape was once widely planted throughout Sardinia but its plantings were decimated when the phylloxera epidemic hit the island at the end of the nineteenth century. At the turn of the 21st century there were 552 hectares (1,364 acres) of the grape planted throughout Italy, mostly in the Sardinian provinces of Cagliari and Oristano.
The Girò grape has shown itself to thrive in very hot and dry climates, though in these conditions the grapes will lack acidity.

"Impressively deep red in colour; opaque. Gentle nose bringing a bit of dusty cherry. The lovely thick texture that is starting to seem typical of the vintage. Fresh fruit on the palate, good levels of acidity keeping the freshness and an interesting sage-leaf twist. Medium-bodied, modest in intensity and still quite acidic. Nice aftertaste, with a big flaring finish that has lots of cherry and green wood tannins. Fine port. 87/100. Drunk 12-Oct-13. Decanted 2 hours." The Port Forum

Graham's Port, 1963

Vintage Port
Level upper shoulder, label bin soiled

Power, dimension and character are all hallmarks of this most memorable Vintage. Even after many years, the Graham’s 1963 never fails to impress, with its superbly balanced components of fruit, tannin and elegance. This wine conveys rose-petal aromas and the flavours of concentrated and caramelised fruit are in perfect balance. A legend in the history of Port.

"What a stunning 1963 vintage port this is! The bouquet draws you in, does not drag you in with its alcohol and reveals a fresh, well defined nose with a nutty edge, hints of cigar box and allspice. The palate is beautifully balanced,

Messias Port, 1963

Colheita Single Harvest Tawny Port

*** 94 Points - Robert Parker ***

***96 Points-The Wine Enthusiast***

Reviews
"The 1963 Colheita Port is an old vines field blend bottled in 2014 with a long cork. Fresh, rich and bright on the finish, this has a whiff of brandy, but it is surprisingly clean and youthful for its age. It lingers nicely, finally showing all of those old Tawny flavours. It's sweet caramel nuances are especially delectable on the juicy finish, but they weren't so defined and nuanced early on. I wasn't as thrilled on the first tastes, but by the fourth day, its beautiful acidity took over and made it multidimensional.

Taylor's Port, 1963

Vintage Port
High Level - re-waxed Capsule

From a spectacular harvest, this 1963 vintage Port wine from Taylor's shows a pale garnet colour with red brilliant highlights. At first the spirit is rather overpowering. Then dark chocolate starts appearing, followed by herbal, rock rose , licorice, cigar box, leathery quality really comes through in the mouth and a slightly medicinal character. The finish is long and lingering.

This house must certainly be the Latour of Portugal. Their ports are remarkably backward yet still impressive when young. Of all the vintage ports, those of Taylor need the longest time to mature and even when fully mature seem to have an inner strength and firmness that keep them going for decades.

1962 Dom Perignon

Champagne

"Light pale gold, deeper through the sides, glass served after poured, very little effervescence in this sample. Indelible aroma above the glass, delicate, floral and fragrant. Long, long, long and quite alive. Evolves over the course of an hour - calling everything from lemon curd to citron creme on a biscuit, and even a hint of piña. Fascinating and captivating. Beautiful wine. After an hour, a lilting caramelization rounded off this gorgeous glass. Pour it, taste it, and if you can wait an hour, you will not believe you are drinking champagne."
