Fonseca Port, 2007

Vintage Port Half bottles 37.5cl

96/100 (Outstanding) Wine journal
94/100 (Outstanding) Wine Advocate

Reviews: "The 2007 Fonseca Vintage Port is opaque purple-colored with a high-class perfume of lavender, Asian spices, pencil lead, incense, and an amalgam of black fruits. On the palate it is voluminous with layered, succulent fruit, outstanding density, and excellent integration of tannin, acidity, and alcohol. The long finish and the wine’s impeccable balance suggest a lengthy evolution and a drinking window extending out to 2045. " Jay Miller, Wine Advocate.

"The nose is quintessential Fonseca, like a riotous party reaching its crescendo in the glass.

Vintage Port

Selected by Sandeman for its classic and exceptional characteristics, Sandeman Porto Vintage 2007, a wine of a single year, will mature in bottle. Remarkable colour and concentrated nose, full and rich in the mouth and showing elegant potential, Sandeman Porto Vintage 2007 exemplifies the Brand´s commitment to quality.

Sandeman Porto Vintage 2007 has an opaque purple colour, almost black. The aroma has an excellent intensity, of ripe red and black fruit aromas, and complexity added by spicy and intense hints of pepper and clove. In the mouth, it has a very powerful strike, which is impressively robust.

Barros Port, 2006

Colheita Port (Includes dark mocha leather effect silk lined box as illustrated)

Amber colour with a bouquet reminiscent of dried fruits and spice. Soft and velvety on the palate with a lingering finish.

Colheita, or single harvest ports, are aged in the barrel. Contrast this with vintage ports which are aged in the bottle and only have a short drinking window after opening. Colheita ports have had air working on them through the cask during all the years of aging, giving them a open-life of a month or longer. Lighter and more delicate than vintage ports, the colheita ports are immediately understandable and enjoyable to the novice port drinker and an on-going pleasure to the experienced.

**** 90 Points - Outstanding - Wine Enthusiast ***

The 2006 has a complex nose with dark berries, cress, coffee . Full-bodied and great balance. Smooth palate that reflects the nose. Very good length. Excellent.

Chateau Pichon-Longueville, Baron, 2006

Pauillac 2eme Cru Classe

*** 92 Points Robert Parker ***
Closed but promising, this is a tannic, masculine style of wine in 2006, with an inky bluish/purple colour as well as aromas of incense, charcoal, smoked meats, and the classic creme de cassis that one finds in the top Pauillacs. The aromatics are still retrained, but the wine is full-bodied in the mouth, tannic, backward, and set for a relatively long life. This is not one of the profound wines from Pichon Longueville Baron, but it is certainly a top-flight success for the vintage. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2028.

Chateau Lafite Rothschild, 2005

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe,

WA - Beautiful, elegant red, blue and black fruits (89% Cabernet Sauvignon and 11% Merlot) as well as some graphite and spice notes jump from the glass of the 2005 Lafite Rothschild. Medium-bodied, with superb purity and texture, this is not a blockbuster by any means, but a meticulously made, lovely-textured Pauillac. Long and pure, this wine should drink well for 25-30 years. There is no danger in pulling the cork on it today. Robert Parker eRobertParker.com 19 Jun 2015

WS - Delivers blackberry, dried porcini, tobacco and licorice aromas. Full-bodied, with layers of velvety tannins and loads of dark chocolate, cigar box, currant, berry and mineral.

Chateau Yquem, 2005

Sauternes 1er Cru Classe (in Yquem Case)

Chateau d`Yquem is often described as the greatest sweet wine in the world. After centuries of family ownership, Yquem was finally sold in acrimonious circumstances to Louis Vuitton-Moët-Hennessy in 1999. However, its former owner and director Alexandre de Lur-Saluce remains in charge. Yquem is located on the highest hill in Sauternes and enjoys the best growing conditions in the whole appellation. The 110-hectare vineyard is planted with 80% Sémillon and 20% Sauvignon Blanc. Only fully botrytized fruit is picked by the 150 highly skilled pickers and yields are so low that each vine produces only one glass of wine.

Royal Tokaji, 2005

Betsek Tokaji 6 Puttonyos Aszu

Luminous apricot tawny. Apricots and dust and velours on the palate. Very bracing and zesty and one of the first wines in this tasting I have been tempted to swallow. Obviously very high quality. Jancis Robinson

Royal Tokaji now owns 16 hectares of this long established vineyard. Situated to the south east of Mád in Hungary, it produces lusciously refreshing wines that are always in demand. Betsek’s black volcanic topsoil contributes to the mineral and lovely black pepper characters in the wine. Apricot and honey predominate. Betsek is an old Magyar family name and this vineyard produces consistently balanced aszu wines.

Chateau Lafite Rothschild, 2004

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe,

Only 39% of production was used for the Grand Vin and with a whopping 90.5% Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend (the balance being 9% Merlot and 0.5% Petit Verdot) the 2004 Lafite needed little introduction. This wine has one of the most exciting noses - intense, spicy, pure cassis and a generous helping of creamy vanilla. The palate is just as exciting, exhibiting terrific concentration and a hint of warm new oak which leads to an intense, linear core of lively blackcurrants and layers of intriguing minerality. The Cabernet was very evident on the finish with the variety's characteristically firm tannins taking over at the end, making this one for the long term.

Quinta do Vesuvio Vintage Port, 2004

Vintage Port - SINGLE BOTTLE

** 94/100 Points - Wine Enthusiast ***

Only 1100 Cases made in 2004. The 2004 Vesuvio has an opaque, inky purple colour. The excellent ripeness of the grapes and the relatively high Baumés allowed for longer fermentations, producing wines of exceptional concentration, depth of colour and tannic structure. It has a fragrant nose of violets and layers of rich blackberry fruit on the palate, making it irresistible for broaching young, although the wine will age for decades.

Chateau Yquem, 2003

Sauternes 1er Cru Classe (in Yquem Case)

*** 94 Points - e robert Parker ***

Ch. d'Yquem reported 2003 as the hottest year since 1896, the previous hottest being the 1976 which provided a superb wine with excellent botrytis which is now showing at its best. Ch. d'Yquem conclude their report: "This unusual vintage will no doubt remain a benchmark for many years to come. An extraordinary summer, "total" botrytis, and the sacrifice of part of the estate made it possible to harvest grapes with optimum fruit and and concentration thanks to unusually clean botrtization."

Reviews
The 2003 Yquem was picked from 17th September after an explosion of botrytis until 26th September in one trie.

Reviews: "The inky, purple-colored, opaque 2003 Quinta do Noval Vintage Port soars from the glass, revealing dates, black cherries, copious flowers, and plums. Full-bodied, broad, and lush, this top-flight wine is harmonious and exhibits stupendous purity of fruit. Chateau Batailley, 2002

Pauillac, 5th Growth Classification

Batailley is a favourite chateau of ours, producing classic claret that almost always rewards patience. Stern and unloveable in their youth, with age these wines eventually blossom into a mellow aromatically complex maturity. Just don't drink them too early!

"The ’02 Batailley has a surprisingly deep colour. The nose displays good intensity and lift with blackberry, briary, sous-bois and a touch of bay leaf, all with fine delineation if lacking some vigour. With time in the glass, there are more tar and cedar-wood aromas emerging. The palate is medium-bodied but with a sinewy entry, rounded tannins, with notes of blackberry, cedar, pencil shavings and a touch of plum.

Chateau Pavie Macquin, 2002

St. Emilion Grand Cru

**90 Points e-Parker.com**

Situated on clay and limestone soils above the better known Pavie-Decesse, this 37.5-acre vineyard is planted with 75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. Farmed bio-dynamically, with low yields, this has been a perennial winner over the last 12-15 years, with the 1998 and 2000 standing out as monumental efforts. The inky purple-colored 2002 is unevolved and primary, but it exhibits impressive purity and intensity as well as high levels of tannin. In this case, the latter component is not dry or astringent. There is an admirable mid-section, a distinctive liquid minerality, and a closed but promising/persistent after-taste.

Chateau Lafite Rothschild, 2001

Pauillac, 1st Growth Classification

*** 94 Points - Robert parker ***
*** 96 Points - Neil Martin ***

Reviews:
The 2001 Lafite Rothschild’s deep, saturated plum/purple color is accompanied by lead pencil liqueur-like notes intermixed with sweet red and black currants, plums, and cedar. This blend of 86.5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 13.5% Merlot is a classic example of Lafite. Extremely elegant, medium-bodied, with intense concentration, richness, and sweet tannin, it appears to be on a rapid evolutionary track, at least in comparison to recent Lafite vintages that have been far more backward and powerful. The classy 2001 should be at its finest between 2007-2020.

Chateau Mouton Rothschild, 2001

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe

"Lifted blackberry, autumn leaf, cedar and a touch of fresh tobacco, the mintiness enhanced by continued aeration. The palate is very tight and slightly pinched at the moment, the tannins a little harder and less fine than Lafite, the finish slightly chalky and foursquare in texture. Personally, I prefer the 2002 to the previous year, but it is still a decent, mid-weight Pauillac that would show better with cuisine. Drink 2013-2025. Tasted November 2010."
