Fonseca Port, 1963

Vintage Port - damaged labels, embossed capsules

*** 96 Points Robert Parker **

Fonseca is one of the great port lodges, producing the most exotic and most complex port. It excels in its magnificently complex, intense bouquet of plummy, cedary, spicy fruit and long, broad, expansive flavors. With its lush, seductive character, one might call it the Pomerol of Vintage ports.

"The 1963, one of the great modern-day classics of vintage port, is an incredibly aromatic, sublime, majestic port that simply defines Fonseca's style perfectly." Robert Parker 1989.

Dom Perignon, 1962

Oenotheque Champagne

The 1962 vintage’s maturity has been considered advanced enough to be placed among the Oenothèque wines.
This vintage is indeed a fine example of a diversified bouquet. One can even observe different stages in the sensations of the nose during the tasting. First, smoky and woody notes can be perceived. Then, cedar and sandalwood notes complete a palette which is already interesting. After the emergence of slight marmalade flavours, the taster is able to detect a subtle note of hawthorn.

Despite a significant maturity, Dom Pérignon Oenothèque 1962 seems to be endowed with a certain freshness, as it appears bright, fruity and easy on the palate.

Vintage Port - Sale (Plain Label & Low-shoulder)

This is an extraordinary house that seems to have been particularly successful with its vintage port. The 1960 is a classic, a monumental, rich, still tannic wine

Reviews
"Superbly balanced and at its peak. Light ruby with a garnet edge, a rich coffee and chocolate nose, medium-bodied, with lovely balanced fruit and coffee flavours and a long, silky finish. A joy to drink." James Suckling - Vintage Port Book

Chateau Yquem, 1958

Sauternes Premiere Grand Cru Classe

Considered as the greatest white wine in the world, Château d'Yquem, located on a small hill, enjoys a microclimate and an exceptional terroir. The vineyard, which has no fewer than 150 parcels of different soil, is cherished throughout the year, each vine receives an average of 50 treatments per year. The selection is particularly rigorous for the grand vin of château d'Yquem: it is often said that a vine produces only one glass of wine . The harvest is carried out through at least four passes (seven in 1997!) to harvest the grapes at perfect ripeness, with the noble rot.

"An opage blockbuster when young, astringent and unready up until the early 1980's. In the early 1990's still fairly deep coloured; a vast, deep, high-toned, spicy nose, fairly sweet, full bodied packed with fruit extract and tannin and acidity.." Marcus Bent ****

Chateau Lafite Rothschild, 1948

Pauillac Grand Cru Classe

Mature mahogany colour, a little cloudy. Plenty of glycerine, unctuous and creamy port like texture, but without the sweetness, which one could expect given that 1948 wasn’t a very ripe vintage. It kept getting better in the glass.

Chateau Latour, 1944

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe

Established around 1680, the Chateau Latour estate is one of the oldest of the Medoc. At the heart of the estate, the principal parcel named "L'Enclos" is 47 hectares of the oldest vines that are preciously maintained because only they are able to give birth to the "Grand Vin". The wine of Chateau Latour is an example of consistent excellence, no matter the vintage. Firm, tannic and concentrated in its youth, it needs a long cellaring to reveal all of its profoundness, strength and extraordinary richness. At perfect maturity, the wine distinguishes itself by an incredible bouquet of black currant, hazelnut and leather.

D'Oliveiras Madeira, 1875

Sercial Madeira

"A beautiful amber hue with saffron and olive notes at the rim. The nose is quite glorious – really takes hold of your senses. Though dry, the palate is peppered with shards of jaggery, splinters of sweet caramel and subtly sweet and spicy chutney. The smoky guava-edged finish is charged with a sulphurous, volcanic note. A journey in a glass. Edgy, but in a good way." Sarah Ahmed The Wine Detective

Mid-deep amber-mahogany, one of the darker wines in the line up; very lifted, high toned and rather balsamic on the nose, quite pungent and smokey too; rich initially, thick cut but dry marmalade with a rather coarse, slightly salty finish, the richness offset by pronounced acidity.

Malvasia Madeira

19/20 Jancis Robinson

"Big and round and with lots of acidity. Beefy and almost like beef extract with richness on the finish. Actually, the more I think about it, the more like a beef consommé that is slightly sweet because so reduced (ie concentrated) it is!" Jancis Robinson

Taylor's Port, 1855

Scion - Very Old Vintage Port

In 2008 Taylor’s wine maker David Guimaraens became aware of the existence of a very old and rare cask-aged port dating from before the arrival of Phylloxera in the Douro Valley. The wine belonged to a distinguished Douro family and was stored in a lodge in the village of Prezegueda in the Corgo Valley. A treasured heirloom, passed down from one generation to the next, it was maintained as a private family reserve, with the exception of one pipe said to have been acquired by Winston Churchill. In 2009 the sole surviving direct descendant of the family died, leaving no children. Her heirs, not all family members,

Burmester Port

Tawny Port

Orangey (tawny) colour. The fresh fruit tones gain nutty dry fruit nuances, lending the wine a subtle elegance.

Winemaking:
A classic port wine, which helped the drink became famous throughout the world. This wine is obtained by blending different harvests. At first it is aged in oak vats and after 4 years it is blended. Its ageing and consequent oxidation in oak makes its colour turn from red to orangey.

It can be appreciated as an aperitive or on any other ocasion. Ideal accompaniment to nuts, cheeses or deserts.

Fernando de Castilla, Non Vintage

Oloroso Cortado Antique Sherry

The Oloroso Cortado is among the oldest wines available from this bodega. It averages over 30 years in age, making it a V.O.R.S. wine although Rey Fernando de Castilla refuses to label their wines as such.

It is produced with grapes from older vines on a vineyard in the highly regarded Pago Balbaina, to the West of Jerez de la Frontera.

The Antique range holds the premium wines of the house. All of these wines are single-solera, which means they’re matured in one solera system, rather than being a blend of different soleras that have aged separately. Note that despite its age and considering the awards it has won, it’s still a relatively affordable sherry.
