Barsac, 1st Growth
bin Soiled and damaged labels - Vintage Not Legible - good levels.

The 1976 Climens has a lovely nose of mandarin, orange-blossom and a touch of peach. A little “smudged” by alcohol. Chateau Margaux, 1976

Premier Grand Cru Classe (Very Top shoulder)

1976 will be remembered as the "drought year". This vintage could have been outstanding, but the rainy end to the summer firstly diluted the grapes and then forced us to harvest quickly before rot set in. Today, 1976 is a supple, almost smooth wine with a fine, distinguished and mature nose. It lacks the complexity and, especially, the power to be a true great wine. We look back emotionally on this time, when Château Margaux, which belonged to the Ginestet family.

Chateau Mouton Rothschild, 1976

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe (Mid-Shoulder)

Mahogany core with deep brick rim. The nose is actually better than I anticipated with some dusty black fruits, cedar a touch of game, but it certainly lacks vigour and cohesion. The palate is a little tawdry, slightly hollow with an cooked character that jars against some obvious green berries that found themselves fermenting. Linear towards the dry finish, moderate length.

Vina Ardanza Reserva

1976 Vina Ardanza Cellar Tracker Review: Medium garnet colour, orange edges. Light nose. Red fruit, leather, tobacco, soy sauce, earth, spices, cinnamon, clove and balsamic notes on the palate, with lively acidity, fine, mostly resolved tannin and good length. Smoothly textured, with some old age sweetness. Perfectly balanced after about an hour of aeration. Rather big and broad and not quite as weightless and elegant as the best examples on day one, but ethereal, balsamic and very smooth on day two.

Baron de Sigognac, 1975

Armagnac (Comes in original Sigognac Box as illustrated)

The company behind this Armagnac owns one of the most important stocks of old vintages in the whole region. They are growers as well as distillers and specialise in sourcing and ageing old casks of Armagnac.

The Armagnac is made from a blend of Baco and Ugni Blanc, the predominant grapes used in the production of Armagnac. The distillation takes place in a column still to an alcohol strength of about 54%. The spirit is then aged in local black oak casks. The alcohol content then reduces naturally to about 40% after about forty years. Presented in original wooden box.

Blandys Madeira, 1975

Vintage Sercial Madeira (HALF BOTTLE 37.5cl)

***Wine & Spirits Magazine – February 2016 edition (“Year's Best Madeira”) – 95 Points***

***Wine Spectator Magazine – February 2016 edition – 95 Points***

'The 1975 Sercial, which was bottled in October 2015, has a mellow bouquet with hints of toffee apple, sea spray and hazelnut. It is very focused and refined, nothing too showy here. The palate is fresh and citric on the entry: sour lemon mingling with dried honey, orange zest, walnut and a touch of tobacco. There is appreciable weight in the mouth, refreshing as Sercial can often be, with a focused, marine-influenced finish.

Calem Port, 1975

Colheita Port (Includes Calem Box as shown)

This is a superb colheita port from Calem. It has a beautiful dark tawny colour and a smooth bouquet of classic tawny notes (wood, caramel etc.). The palate was more acidic and a bit alcoholic which prickled a pit on the tounge. Not terribly sweet, but nice with a healthy aftertaste of nuts, coffee, tobacco and caramel.

Delaforce Vintage Port, 1975

Vintage port

Review in the Port Forum
"Pale auburn in colour, with a rose rim. Floral honey on the nose, pleasant but not strong. Dusty sweet redcurrant jelly on the tongue, with the tannins showing through as a gentle dusty persistence. Floral and rose-water flavours in the mouth, not a heavyweight, but perfectly pleasant drinking. Nice redcurrant aftertaste, with an enjoyable slight bitterness to the finish." AHB Port Forum 2010

Graham's Port, 1975

Vintage Port

*** 93 Points Aggregated Score***

The 1975 Graham's vintage port is a wine from an historic year for Portugal with a port declaration that came shortly after the 1974 revolution. With a lively bright appearance and deep aromatic nose of candied fruit, damson jam and sweet raisins, this port is a crowd pleaser. Elegant, with a long lingering finish it is nearly perfect now and will only keep improving.

Serving Suggestions:
When mature this port will need to be decanted to remove sediment. Serve at room temperature on its own or with vintage mature blue cheeses such as stilton Cashel Blue, Roquefort, Gorgonzola and Saint Augur Blue.

Janneau, 1975

Armagnac 1975 Vintage (Includes presentation box as shown)

The great vintages or millésimés of Janneau are the expression of a single year, most commonly of a single cask. Produced exclusively with the single distillation process, they are the quintessence of this precious distillate aged over the years. Each vintage expresses its unique character. These vintages are bottled at the alcohol level in which they naturally come out of the cask. There is a sharp contrast between the sweet and sour flavours of wood, amplified by the strong alcoholic degree. Rich palate feeling the alcohol and the concentration of dry plums, spicy with persistent flavour of rancio and of spices, but round, soft and long in the finish.

Quinta do Noval Port, 1975

Vintage Port

The 1975 Quinta Noval outshines the 1975 vintage.

"The beautiful Quinta do Noval is undoubtedly the most famous port producer, largely because their 1931 and 1927 were to vintage port what the 1947 Cheval Blanc and 1945 Mouton-Rothschild were to the Bordeaux trade - divine, monumental wines of extraordinary depth of flavor... The 1975 has turned out to be charming, fruity and actually better than the 1970 or 1963, which is inexplicable." Robert Parker Buying Guide 2nd Ed 1989.

Sandeman Vintage Port, 1975

Vintage Port

Port Buyers recommendation 1975 was a declared vintage and the vintage ports have a lighter style. The 1975 Sandeman is well above average, represents good value and has a good provenance. It is a pale ruby colour. Morello cherries, black berries and liquorice on the nose which has a slightly roasted quality. Slightly treacle like on the palate, with notes of honey and mocha. A fairly light, sweet style at this point. Good medium-long finish. Will hold for a few more years" Dr T Carter notes from Sandeman V20 Tasting London 2014.

This Vintage Port is pale ruby in colour. Maraschino cherries, black berries and liquorice on the nose slightly roasted quality.
