D'Oliveiras Madeira, 1907

Sale

Malvazia (comes in original D'Oliveiras Box as illustrated)

*** 95 Points Wine Spectator ***
*** 93 Points Wine Advocate ***

"The 1907 Malvazia was magnificent when tasted on the island in April 2010, though this example does not quite reach those heady heights. It is deep amber in color. The nose is lifted and open with pressed flowers, orange blossom and a slight, rather distracting chlorine accent. The palate is rich and very spicy on the entry with expressive marmalade, orange peel and white pepper notes that build in the mouth. It shows good weight but it is lacking finesse towards the finish. It is a little unruly at 105-years of age, but packed full of flavor.

D'Oliveiras Madeira, 1905

Verdelho

*** 98 Points - Wine Spectator ***

"What an intense wine. Fabulous bouquet of rich, sumptuous caramel. There’s some sweetness here, but rapierlike acidity is underneath.” Wine Spectator

Madeira is made on the volcanic island of the same name, situated in the Atlantic ocean some 400 miles off the North African coast. This sub-tropical island was discovered in 1419 by the Portuguese. Madeira is the Portuguese word for wood or timber.

This sweet, amber-tinged Madeira, has keen acidity and a long and mellow finish, with a certain delicacy.

Blandys Madeira, 1864

Grand Cama de Lobos Madeira Solera 1864

Bottled by Edward Young and Co London

Absolute Rarity!
Tasting note: Color was dark amber and amazingly clear. For a wine of this age I thought it would be cloudy. Very pungent nose of burnt walnut, molasses and fig. Modest amount of VA that seemed both bitter and sweet. Much sweeter on the palate than the nose suggested. Again, hints of maple syrup, nut skin and fig. Very pleasant. As this sat in the glass, the bitterness and VA faded. A very interesting wine.

Taylor's Port, 1855

Scion - Very Old Vintage Port

In 2008 Taylor’s wine maker David Guimaraens became aware of the existence of a very old and rare cask-aged port dating from before the arrival of Phylloxera in the Douro Valley. The wine belonged to a distinguished Douro family and was stored in a lodge in the village of Prezegueda in the Corgo Valley. A treasured heirloom, passed down from one generation to the next, it was maintained as a private family reserve, with the exception of one pipe said to have been acquired by Winston Churchill. In 2009 the sole surviving direct descendant of the family died, leaving no children. Her heirs, not all family members,

Barros Special Edition: Five Decades Of Passion, Non Vintage

Very Old Tawny Port (Comes in premium wooden Box as illustrated)

Very Old Tawny Ports are a growing category, albeit by their very nature niche. Barros recently joined the frey with a limited production Very Old Tawny Port of 1913 numbered bottles. To commemorate the Port House’s centenary, winemaker Pedro Sá has produced a blend from the best wines from each decade since Barros was founded. The average age of the wines is 65 years. It’s also unusual in that, apparently, it’s a single vineyard wine. The grapes come from Quinta de S. Luiz, whose vines range between 20 and 80 years old and which is located between 200 and 400 metres above sea level.
All the wines in the blend were aged in small 225 litre oak casks in the Barros warehouse in Vila Nova de Gaia.

Churchill's Port

10 Year Old tawny port 50cl bottle

‘Unquestionably the finest Tawny I've tasted in years. What makes it profound is its complex fragrance of roasted nuts and sweet fruit. There is impeccable definition and richnesss, a velvety texture and a long lust finish. It is all a tawny should be.’ —Robert Parker

A rich brick red colour with flashes of amber, elegant and subtle, complex on the nose, with expressive notes of dry fruits combined with hints of Orange peel, full on the mouth, this 10 years Old Tawny Port shows an excellent vinosity and freshness, allowing it to finish long and persistent.

Compared to other Port Wine shippers, most of which were established around the turn of the18th/19th centuries, Churchill’s history is short.

Niepoort Port, Non Vintage

Tawny Dee

Ruby Dum and Tawny Dee - the Niepoort 'twins' as reflected on the bottles. These wines come from the same lot, but over a five year period are aged differently so that the one is rich and ruby in style, while the other becomes paler and more tawnied. A rather novel and fascinating new approach which really works well. Both wines are very drinkable indeed.

Tawny Dee acquires great wisdom and subtleness through ageing in small old oak casks in our cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia exhibiting discrete characters of dried stone fruits. This refinement is further enhanced by the years of experience of our Master blender José Nogueira.
