Tasting Notes
A small area at the heart of the Quinta do Noval vineyard planted with ungrafted vines and untouched by phylloxera. The word “Nacional” refers to the fact that the vines are Portuguese vines growing in Portuguese soil with no foreign root stock, and are therefore “attached to the soil of the Nation”. This great wine is a source of pride to the people of Portugal, and at its best the finest expression of the extraordinary terroir of Quinta do Noval.

Tasting Notes
In addition to a classic Taylor’s Vintage, Taylor’s has announced that it will bottle a Vargellas Vinha Velha Vintage Port from the exceptional 2017 harvest. This will be only the eighth Vargellas Vinha Velha ever to be released and quantities are very limited. As usual, it is an extraordinary wine, a showcase of the old vines’ ability to deliver multiple layers and dimensions of aroma.”

Amarone della Valpolicella, 2012

Roccolo Grassi

A 2012 Roccolo Grassi red wine.

Marco Sartori is a driven young man. In a few short years he has gone from making his first vintage to one of the hottest new talents in the region. All the wines produced by this modern new winery are world class. Marco's philosophy is very simple, reduce the yields in the vineyard to 1Kg per vine and you obtain fabulous fruit concentration.

Tasting Notes:
Luscious, smooth, mouth-filing wine that is everything and more that we've come to expect and love in Amarone. Oodles of violets on the nose. Tight structure from the strong but not over-bearing tannins, lots of acidity with lovely warmth as it goes down your throat revealing the 17% abv! But it's not too hot for all of that.

Fonseca Port, 2011

Vintage Port 75cl Bottle

The 2011 Vintage Port Wine from Fonseca has been described as "heady, opulent nose. Completely enveloping, Smells as though there is going to be the most fabulous texture. Wow! All stops pulled out for this one. It's all absolutely gorgeous intensity of sweet fruit on the front palate and then gradually the schist and structure reveal themselves. This is really wonderful stuff. So tempting to sip it decades before it is ready." Jancisrobinson.com

Fonseca declares its vintages only in the most exceptional of years, and in 2011, like many, Fonseca benefitted from a perfect ending to the growing season, ensuring optimum ripeness for their grapes.

Chateau Lafite Rothschild, 2009

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe,

*** 99+ Points Robert Parker ***

Reviews:
The main reason the 2009 Lafite Rothschild did not receive a perfect score is because the wine has closed down slightly, but it is unquestionably another profound Lafite, their greatest wine since the amazing 2003. Among the most powerful Lafites ever made (it came in at 13.59% alcohol), the final blend was 82.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot and the rest Petit Verdot. The selection was incredibly severe with only 45% of the crop being utilized. A tight, but potentially gorgeous nose of graphite, black currants, licorice and camphor is followed by a full-bodied wine revealing the classic elegance, purity and delineated style of Lafite.

Chateau Lafite Rothschild, 2005

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe,

WA - Beautiful, elegant red, blue and black fruits (89% Cabernet Sauvignon and 11% Merlot) as well as some graphite and spice notes jump from the glass of the 2005 Lafite Rothschild. Medium-bodied, with superb purity and texture, this is not a blockbuster by any means, but a meticulously made, lovely-textured Pauillac. Long and pure, this wine should drink well for 25-30 years. There is no danger in pulling the cork on it today. Robert Parker eRobertParker.com 19 Jun 2015

WS - Delivers blackberry, dried porcini, tobacco and licorice aromas. Full-bodied, with layers of velvety tannins and loads of dark chocolate, cigar box, currant, berry and mineral.

Chateau Lafite Rothschild, 2004

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe,

An excellent 2004 vintage bordeaux wine. Only 39% of production was used for the Grand Vin and with a whopping 90.5% Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend (the balance being 9% Merlot and 0.5% Petit Verdot) the 2004 Lafite needed little introduction. This wine has one of the most exciting noses - intense, spicy, pure cassis and a generous helping of creamy vanilla. The palate is just as exciting, exhibiting terrific concentration and a hint of warm new oak which leads to an intense, linear core of lively blackcurrants and layers of intriguing minerality. The Cabernet was very evident on the finish with the variety's characteristically firm tannins taking over at the end, making this one for the long term.

Chateau Margaux, 2004

Margaux Premiere Grand Cru Classe MAGNUM Bottle

A Chateau Margaux 2004 vintage bordeaux wine. With as much Merlot in the blend as the 1990 and 1996, the quality of this wine is as good as any vintage that the winemaker Paul Pontallier could remember. This is as fabulous and as exciting as the 2000 vintage had been at a similar stage. The nose was simply beautiful - ripe, fine sweet, elegant and powerful with huge potential. The palate is expansive and multi-faceted. Alongside Latour, this is one of the two wines of the vintage.

Chateau Margaux, 2002

Margaux Premiere Grand Cru Classe

An outstanding 2002 vintage Bordeaux wine from Chateau Margaux.

93 Points - Robert Parker
95 Points - Wine Journal

"Performing better from bottle than at any time in cask (which of course is the objective of great winemaking, isn’t it?), this wine reveals a dense ruby/purple color in a style somewhat reminiscent of the 1988 but with more power, concentration, and volume. It has a beautifully elegant nose of black fruits intermixed with truffle, flower, and oak. The wine is medium to full-bodied, dense, with wonderful precision, freshness, and a long, full-bodied finish with impressive levels of concentration.

Chateau Lafite Rothschild, 2001

Pauillac, 1st Growth Classification

*** 94 Points - Robert parker ***
*** 96 Points - Neil Martin ***

Reviews:
The 2001 Lafite Rothschild’s deep, saturated plum/purple color is accompanied by lead pencil liqueur-like notes intermixed with sweet red and black currants, plums, and cedar. This blend of 86.5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 13.5% Merlot is a classic example of Lafite. Extremely elegant, medium-bodied, with intense concentration, richness, and sweet tannin, it appears to be on a rapid evolutionary track, at least in comparison to recent Lafite vintages that have been far more backward and powerful. The classy 2001 should be at its finest between 2007-2020.

Chateau Mouton Rothschild, 2001

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe

"Lifted blackberry, autumn leaf, cedar and a touch of fresh tobacco, the mintiness enhanced by continued aeration. The palate is very tight and slightly pinched at the moment, the tannins a little harder and less fine than Lafite, the finish slightly chalky and foursquare in texture. Personally, I prefer the 2002 to the previous year, but it is still a decent, mid-weight Pauillac that would show better with cuisine. Drink 2013-2025. Tasted November 2010." Feuerheerd's Colheita Port is a port from a single harvest aged in oak casks for a minimum of seven years and bottled by demand. After carefully selecting the grapes, the wine was matured in seasoned oak casks to produce a rich, mellow flavour and to show the fine balance and elegance of an old tawny.

Chateau Haut Brion, 1999

Pessac Leognan 1er Grand Cru Classe

Château Haut-Brion's 1999 comes from a very good Bordeaux vintage for those producers who picked their crop selectively.

The 1999 Haut Brion is intensely aromatic, rich and concentrated. Their wines are consistently viewed as some of the very best in the entire Bordeaux region, including its fellow first growths of the Médoc.

Reviews..

"The Haut-Brion is certainly more expressive on the nose than their neighbours over the road, very good lift with blackberry, cedar, iodine, macerated black cherries, a touch of dried herbs. The palate is medium-bodied, very well balanced, very elegant with svelte, fine tannins.

Chateau Lafite Rothschild, 1999

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe,

This first growth reveals a remarkably complex nose with subtle new oak. The palate starts supple but finishes with great intensity. Although delicious now, this top rated wine has the structure to last.

Critical Acclaim
RP95
The Wine Advocate - "The 1999 Lafite Rothschild sports an engraved "1999" on the bottle along with an eclipse to mark that significant historical event of August, 1999. It is a quintessential offering from Lafite Rothschild. This prodigious wine is both elegant and intensely flavored, and almost diaphanous in its layers that unfold with no heaviness. An opaque ruby/purple color is accompanied by a complex bouquet of lead pencil, graphite, cedar, creme de cassis, toast, and vanilla.

Chateau Latour, 1999

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe

Many regard Latour as the greatest of Bordeaux's Premier Crus. Their 1999 as been desribed as 'sensational', 'luscious' and 'exciting'. It's beautifully concentrated and impeccably balanced, with just the right amount of chewy tannin and fruit extraction, but with a slightly gentle level of acidity. Gobs of cassis and blackberry compote sit with smoky oak, mineral notes and a whiff of leather. Some regard it as the wine of the vintage, Parker awarded it 93-95 points and Jancis Robinson gave it a very hefty 18/20. Drinking now, until beyond 2030.

Chateau Mouton Rothschild, 1999

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe

*** 93 Points - Robert Parker ***

Reviews:
"The beautiful 1999 Mouton Rothschild may be a modern day clone of their 1962 or 1985. Its saturated ruby/purple color is followed by sumptuous aromas of cedar wood, creme de cassis, wood smoke, coffee, and dried herbs. The wine is forward, lush, and full-bodied. It is already complex as well as succulent, fleshy, and long. Tannin in the finish suggests more nuances will emerge in 4-5 years. It is a complex, classic Mouton. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2030" Parker, Wine Advocate 2005

Chateau Mouton Rothschild, 1998

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe

*** 96 Parker Points ***

Like many of its peers, the 1998 Mouton has filled out spectacularly. Now in the bottle, this opaque black/purple-colored offering has increased in stature, richness, and size. A blend of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot, and 2% Cabernet Franc (57% of the production was utilized), it is an extremely powerful, super-concentrated wine offering notes of roasted espresso, creme de cassis, smoke, new saddle leather, graphite, and licorice. It is massive, with awesome concentration, mouth-searing tannin levels, and a saturated flavor profile that grips the mouth with considerable intensity.

Chateau Yquem, 1998

Sauternes 1er Cru Classe

‘A beautiful, slightly golden yellow, this wine is still very young to express much on the initial nose. After swirling, and even more so after a few minutes in the glass, there come scents of citrus, raisins and also more floral aromas with delicate lime flower. These are still early days and time is needed for these impressions to develop. In the mouth the great quality and potential are obvious. The attack is round, and the volume quickly fills the whole mouth. What sweetness and what pleasure - with just enough acidity. Flavours of mandarin, apricot, fruit paste, then the vanillary, lightly grilled notes associated with the long élevage in barrel.

Chateau Mouton Rothschild, 1996

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe

94 Points - Parker
95 Points - Wine Journal

Reviews
"This estate's staff believes that the 1996 Mouton-Rothschild is very complex. I agree that among the first-growths, this wine is showing surprising forwardness and complexity in its aromatics. It possesses an exuberant, flamboyant bouquet of roasted coffee, cassis, smoky oak, and soy sauce. The impressive 1996 Mouton-Rothschild offers impressive aromas of black currants, framboise, coffee, and new saddle leather. This full-bodied, ripe, rich, concentrated, superbly balanced wine is paradoxical in the sense that the aromatics suggest a far more evolved wine than the flavors reveal.

Chateau Cheval Blanc, 1995

St Emilion Premiere Grand Cru Classe

*** 92 Points - Robert Parker ***

reviews:
"A pretty, attractive Cheval Blanc, the 1995 contains a higher percentage of Merlot in the final blend than usual (50% Merlot/50% Cabernet Franc). This wine has not developed as much fat or weight as its younger sibling, the 1996, but it appears to be an outstanding Cheval Blanc with an enthralling smoky, black currant, coffee, and exotic bouquet. Complex, rich, medium to full-bodied flavors are well-endowed and pure, with surprisingly firm tannin in the finish. Unlike the sweeter, riper 1996, the 1995 may be more structured and potentially longer-lived.

Chateau Latour, 1994

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe

This is an interesting as well as great vintage for Latour. As indicated in my barrel tasting report, Latour's 1994 possesses an atypically high percentage of Merlot (27%) in the final blend. Because of this, the wine appears to have a sweeter, more fleshy texture than is typical for a young Latour, but do not make the mistake of thinking this will be a commercially-styled, easy to drink wine. It exhibits an opaque dark ruby/purple color, and a backward, intense textbook nose of walnut and cassis scents complemented by smoky pain grille notes that build in the glass. This full-bodied, powerful, layered Latour reveals high tannin, but no bitterness or astringency.

Chateau Montrose, 1994

St Estephe Second Grand Cru classé

*** 91 Points Outstanding - Robert Parker ***

Montrose has been one of Bordeaux's most consistently successful chateaux since 1989. An opaque purple color suggests a wine of considerable intensity. One of the most successful 1994s of the northern Medoc, the wine's closed aromatics offer jammy black fruits, plums, spice, and earth. On the palate, there is impressive extract, purity, and copious amounts of sweet blackcurrant fruit nicely balanced by moderate yet ripe tannin. Medium-bodied, with excellent to outstanding concentration, this impressive Montrose should be close to full maturity with another 4-5 years of cellaring.

Chateau Mouton Rothschild, 1994

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe

*** 91 Points - Robert Parker ***

The 1994 appears to be the finest Mouton-Rothschild made following the 1986 and before the 1995's conception. The wine exhibits a dense, saturated purple color, followed by a classic Mouton nose of sweet black fruits intermingled with smoke, pain grillee, spice, and cedar. Medium to full-bodied, with outstanding concentration, a layered feel, plenty of tannin, and rich, concentrated fruit, this wine is similar to the fine 1988. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2025. By the way, the Dutch artist, Appel, has created a gorgeous label for the 1994. Although Mouton-Rothschild can be among the most inconsistent first-growths,
