Chateau Lafite Rothschild, 2001

Pauillac, 1st Growth Classification

*** 94 Points - Robert parker ***
*** 96 Points - Neil Martin ***

Reviews:
The 2001 Lafite Rothschild’s deep, saturated plum/purple color is accompanied by lead pencil liqueur-like notes intermixed with sweet red and black currants, plums, and cedar. This blend of 86.5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 13.5% Merlot is a classic example of Lafite. Extremely elegant, medium-bodied, with intense concentration, richness, and sweet tannin, it appears to be on a rapid evolutionary track, at least in comparison to recent Lafite vintages that have been far more backward and powerful. The classy 2001 should be at its finest between 2007-2020.

Chateau Mouton Rothschild, 2001

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe

"Lifted blackberry, autumn leaf, cedar and a touch of fresh tobacco, the mintiness enhanced by continued aeration. The palate is very tight and slightly pinched at the moment, the tannins a little harder and less fine than Lafite, the finish slightly chalky and foursquare in texture. Personally, I prefer the 2002 to the previous year, but it is still a decent, mid-weight Pauillac that would show better with cuisine. Drink 2013-2025. Tasted November 2010." Feuerheerd Port, 2001

Colheita Port

Feuerheerd's Colheita Port is a port from a single harvest aged in oak casks for a minimum of seven years and bottled by demand. After carefully selecting the grapes, the wine was matured in seasoned oak casks to produce a rich, mellow flavour and to show the fine balance and elegance of an old tawny.

Chateau Haut Brion, 1999

Pessac Leognan 1er Grand Cru Classe

Château Haut-Brion's 1999 comes from a very good Bordeaux vintage for those producers who picked their crop selectively.

The 1999 Haut Brion is intensely aromatic, rich and concentrated. Their wines are consistently viewed as some of the very best in the entire Bordeaux region, including its fellow first growths of the Médoc.

Reviews..

"The Haut-Brion is certainly more expressive on the nose than their neighbours over the road, very good lift with blackberry, cedar, iodine, macerated black cherries, a touch of dried herbs. The palate is medium-bodied, very well balanced, very elegant with svelte, fine tannins.

Chateau Lafite Rothschild, 1999

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe,

This first growth reveals a remarkably complex nose with subtle new oak. The palate starts supple but finishes with great intensity. Although delicious now, this top rated wine has the structure to last.

Critical Acclaim
RP95
The Wine Advocate - "The 1999 Lafite Rothschild sports an engraved "1999" on the bottle along with an eclipse to mark that significant historical event of August, 1999. It is a quintessential offering from Lafite Rothschild. This prodigious wine is both elegant and intensely flavored, and almost diaphanous in its layers that unfold with no heaviness. An opaque ruby/purple color is accompanied by a complex bouquet of lead pencil, graphite, cedar, creme de cassis, toast, and vanilla.

Chateau Latour, 1999

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe

Many regard Latour as the greatest of Bordeaux's Premier Crus. Their 1999 as been desribed as 'sensational', 'luscious' and 'exciting'. It's beautifully concentrated and impeccably balanced, with just the right amount of chewy tannin and fruit extraction, but with a slightly gentle level of acidity. Gobs of cassis and blackberry compote sit with smoky oak, mineral notes and a whiff of leather. Some regard it as the wine of the vintage, Parker awarded it 93-95 points and Jancis Robinson gave it a very hefty 18/20. Drinking now, until beyond 2030.

Chateau Mouton Rothschild, 1999

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe

*** 93 Points - Robert Parker ***

Reviews:
"The beautiful 1999 Mouton Rothschild may be a modern day clone of their 1962 or 1985. Its saturated ruby/purple color is followed by sumptuous aromas of cedar wood, creme de cassis, wood smoke, coffee, and dried herbs. The wine is forward, lush, and full-bodied. It is already complex as well as succulent, fleshy, and long. Tannin in the finish suggests more nuances will emerge in 4-5 years. It is a complex, classic Mouton. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2030" Parker, Wine Advocate 2005

Kopke Port, 1999

20 Year Old White Port - Half bottle 37.5cl -In original Kopke box as shown
Special Offer was £34.95 | Now £28.95

Review:
This rare 20 year old white port has a cool, light-amber colour, this unique white “tawny” port derives from the traditional white grapes of the Porto e Douro region, including Arinto, Viosinho, Gouveio and Malvasia Fina. Starting with aromas of a Pear Clafouti and burnt sugar, this elegant port delivers luscious flavours of Japanese pear-apple, with accents of hazelnut, nutmeg and orange zest. The lingering grapefruit finish provides the perfect balance for the sweetness. “Kopke provides an expression of an older Port, belying its 10 years of age, showcasing some white peach and over-ripe pear flavours.

Chateau Mouton Rothschild, 1998

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe

*** 96 Parker Points ***

Like many of its peers, the 1998 Mouton has filled out spectacularly. Now in the bottle, this opaque black/purple-colored offering has increased in stature, richness, and size. A blend of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot, and 2% Cabernet Franc (57% of the production was utilized), it is an extremely powerful, super-concentrated wine offering notes of roasted espresso, creme de cassis, smoke, new saddle leather, graphite, and licorice. It is massive, with awesome concentration, mouth-searing tannin levels, and a saturated flavor profile that grips the mouth with considerable intensity.

Chateau Yquem, 1998

Sauternes 1er Cru Classe

‘A beautiful, slightly golden yellow, this wine is still very young to express much on the initial nose. After swirling, and even more so after a few minutes in the glass, there come scents of citrus, raisins and also more floral aromas with delicate lime flower. These are still early days and time is needed for these impressions to develop. In the mouth the great quality and potential are obvious. The attack is round, and the volume quickly fills the whole mouth. What sweetness and what pleasure - with just enough acidity. Flavours of mandarin, apricot, fruit paste, then the vanillary, lightly grilled notes associated with the long élevage in barrel.

Chateau Lynch-Bages, 1996

Pauillac 5me Cru Classe

*** 93/100 - Robert Parker ***
The 1996 exhibits a dark plum/ruby/purple color that is just beginning to lighten at the edge, surprisingly velvety tannins and a classic Pauillac bouquet of lead pencil shavings, cedarwood, black currants, sweet cherries and spice box. This medium to full-bodied, elegant, savory, broad wine is still five years away from full maturity. It should continue to drink well for another 10-15 years. Chateau Mouton Rothschild, 1996

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe

94 Points - Parker
95 Points - Wine Journal

Reviews
"This estate's staff believes that the 1996 Mouton-Rothschild is very complex. I agree that among the first-growths, this wine is showing surprising forwardness and complexity in its aromatics. It possesses an exuberant, flamboyant bouquet of roasted coffee, cassis, smoky oak, and soy sauce. The impressive 1996 Mouton-Rothschild offers impressive aromas of black currants, framboise, coffee, and new saddle leather. This full-bodied, ripe, rich, concentrated, superbly balanced wine is paradoxical in the sense that the aromatics suggest a far more evolved wine than the flavors reveal.

Chateau Cheval Blanc, 1995

St Emilion Premiere Grand Cru Classe

*** 92 Points - Robert Parker ***

reviews:
"A pretty, attractive Cheval Blanc, the 1995 contains a higher percentage of Merlot in the final blend than usual (50% Merlot/50% Cabernet Franc). This wine has not developed as much fat or weight as its younger sibling, the 1996, but it appears to be an outstanding Cheval Blanc with an enthralling smoky, black currant, coffee, and exotic bouquet. Complex, rich, medium to full-bodied flavors are well-endowed and pure, with surprisingly firm tannin in the finish. Unlike the sweeter, riper 1996, the 1995 may be more structured and potentially longer-lived.

Chateau Latour, 1994

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe

This is an interesting as well as great vintage for Latour. As indicated in my barrel tasting report, Latour's 1994 possesses an atypically high percentage of Merlot (27%) in the final blend. Because of this, the wine appears to have a sweeter, more fleshy texture than is typical for a young Latour, but do not make the mistake of thinking this will be a commercially-styled, easy to drink wine. It exhibits an opaque dark ruby/purple color, and a backward, intense textbook nose of walnut and cassis scents complemented by smoky pain grille notes that build in the glass. This full-bodied, powerful, layered Latour reveals high tannin, but no bitterness or astringency.

Chateau Montrose, 1994

St Estephe Second Grand Cru classé

*** 91 Points Outstanding - Robert Parker ***

Montrose has been one of Bordeaux's most consistently successful chateaux since 1989. An opaque purple color suggests a wine of considerable intensity. One of the most successful 1994s of the northern Medoc, the wine's closed aromatics offer jammy black fruits, plums, spice, and earth. On the palate, there is impressive extract, purity, and copious amounts of sweet blackcurrant fruit nicely balanced by moderate yet ripe tannin. Medium-bodied, with excellent to outstanding concentration, this impressive Montrose should be close to full maturity with another 4-5 years of cellaring.

Chateau Mouton Rothschild, 1994

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe

*** 91 Points - Robert Parker ***

The 1994 appears to be the finest Mouton-Rothschild made following the 1986 and before the 1995's conception. The wine exhibits a dense, saturated purple color, followed by a classic Mouton nose of sweet black fruits intermingled with smoke, pain grillee, spice, and cedar. Medium to full-bodied, with outstanding concentration, a layered feel, plenty of tannin, and rich, concentrated fruit, this wine is similar to the fine 1988. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2025. By the way, the Dutch artist, Appel, has created a gorgeous label for the 1994. Although Mouton-Rothschild can be among the most inconsistent first-growths,

Chateau Latour, 1993

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe

A terrific wine for the vintage, Latour's 1993 reveals an opaque purple color, a backward, cedar, black walnut, cassis, and earth-scented nose, medium to full body, gorgeously rich, concentrated fruit, moderately high tannin (but no astringency), and a sweet, long, powerful finish. The wine does not possess any of the vegetal, green pepper characteristics of the vintage, nor any hint of hollowness or harshness. This wine may prove to merit an even higher rating. Is this vintage the modern day clone of the 1967 and 1971?

Chateau Mouton Rothschild, 1993

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe level in neck, nick on label

*** 90 Points - Robert Parker ***
Reviews: " The 1993 is a beautifully made wine which could be considered a sleeper of the vintage. The wine boasts a dark purple color, followed by a sweet, pain grillee, roasted nut, and cassis-scented bouquet that is just beginning to open. In the mouth, the wine may not possess the body and volume of a vintage such as 1990 or 1989, but there is more richness of fruit, a sweet, ripe, pureness to the wine, as well as medium body and outstanding balance. This moderately tannic, well-focused, surprisingly rich 1993 is capable of 15-20 years of evolution. Anticipated maturity: 2004-2015.

Chateau Bellevue Laffont, 1990

Listrac Medoc

Made with 60% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon.
A delicious, medium-bodied red wine with pleasant ripe-fruit aromas. Pair with red roasted meat, poultry, or soft cheese. Produced by Chateau Fourcas Dupre, where the vineyards of Chateau Bellevue Laffont have been a part of since 1973.

The Fourcas vineyard existed as early as the 18th century—proof of this can be seen on maps drawn by King Louis XIV's cartographers. In 1843, Jean Baptiste Antoine Dupre, a member of the Bordeaux Appeal Court, acquired the Fourcas vineyard and in 1844 he founded Chateau Fourcas Dupre. The chateau passed through several hands before Guy Pages and Alex Laffont bought the estate in 1970, with Pages' son, Patrice, succeeding them in 1985.
