Chateau Cos d'Estournel, 2002

St Estephe, 2nd Growth Classification

93 Points (Parker)
94 Points (Wine Journal)

Reviews "One of the candidates for wine of the vintage, this beauty has a dense purple color to the rim and a classic, noble nose of graphite intermixed with black currant, spice box, licorice, and red and black fruits. Medium to full-bodied with exceptional precision and definition, this beautifully textured wine stands out as one of the most successful wines of this irregular vintage. A brilliant effort, it should be at its best between 2008 and 2020." PArker Wine Advocate, 2005

"Just a fantastic wine…clean, fresh, bright and bushy tailed on the nose with blackberry, raspberry, cedar-wood and a real palpable sense of terroir.

Chateau Gloria, 2002

St Julien

The 2002 Chateau Gloria is generous and well-structured, these intense, complex wines are typical of the Saint Julien appellation. The result of traditional vinification, they have a strong, rich colour. On the palate, they are expressive, rounded and supple. They should be kept for a few years to express their full potential.

Château Gloria's plots were acquired by Henri Martin, mayor of Saint-Julien Beychevelle during the 20th century. This unavoidable figure of the Médoc (one of the founding members of the Commanderie du Bontemps) has raised this vintage to the level of excellent classified growths of the appellation.

Chateau Gruaud Larose, 2002

St Julien, 2me Cru Classe

A big wine matured in oak for 18-20 months, using new oak, more solid a structure than one normally expects from St. Julien. Full bodied, rich and plummy, with masses of fruit. Its spicy blackcurrant flavour is supported with a powerful structure of ripe tannins. 65% Cab. Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 8% Cabernet franc & 4% Petit Verdot.

A fragrant nose that is fleshy and ripe with blackberry, cassis and wild hedgerow. It could do with perhaps a little more precision and clarity. The medium-bodied palate is much more harmonious and focused than the one shown in Bordeaux, supple in texture with rounded black fruits.

Chateau Lynch-Bages, 2002

Pauillac 5me Cru Classe

The 2002 Lynch Bages is a classic offering posessing the weight of the 1999.
"This structured, tannic 2002 offers a dense ruby/purple color, medium to full body, and the tell-tale Lynch Bages black currant and earthy nose. There is good power on the attack, mid-palate and finish. It will need 2-3 years of cellaring, and should age nicely for 12-15 years. If more texture and length develop with bottle age (and they should), this wine will merit an outstanding score. This medium-bodied wine reveals a dark ruby/purple-tinged color, and hints of cedar wood and tobacco in an evolved aromatic display which also includes herbs and black currants.

Chateau Maucaillou, 2002

Moulis Haut Medoc

This saturated ruby-colored wine possesses berry, cassis fruit and good spice with a medium body and finish.

Chateau Maucaillou dates back to at least 1871, when the estate was developed by the Petit Laroche family. The name of Maucaillou can be translated into bad stones. The name was perfect for the estate because of the poor, rocky soils which were too harsh for anything except grape vines.

Churchill's Port

20 Year Old tawny port 50cl bottle

Churchill's 20 Years Old Tawny Port is an expression of Douro terroir, combined with delicate ageing in seasoned oak casks. The result of this combination is a port full of finesse that retains Churchill's characteristic fresh identity.

Compared to other Port Wine shippers, most of which were established around the turn of the18th/19th centuries, Churchill’s history is short. Johnny Graham founded Churchill’s, (named after his wife’s maiden name) in 1981, making it the first British port company to be established in fifty years. The grapes are hand-picked and processed into ancient granite lagares, where they are trodden by foot while fermentation naturally occurs.

Reviews:
*** 95 Points Decanter Magazine ***
Very pale amber/tawny/orange colour. Fine and delicate aromas of hazelnuts and candied citrus. Quince marmalade character, delicate in style, with finesse and poise. Seemingly quite dry in style towards the finish (not as obviously rich as some here), and supremely refined. 18.5pts/20 (95/100pts)

Quinta da Devesa

20 year old White Port in presentation box (50cl)
92 Points - Robert Parker

Tasting Notes:
The 20 Years White Port is a field blend from old vines (50 plus years). It was bottled in January 2015 with 105 grams per liter of residual sugar. Fresh, lovely and delectable, this is perfectly balanced, focused and young. There isn't a lot of complexity early on (noting that this a 20), but it does show some more mature flavors as it airs and warms. Impeccably balanced, this is a beautiful 20 that lingers endlessly and tastes just great. Note that this was tasted from a 500-milliliter bottle.
