40 Year Old Graham's

Sale

Tawny Port
Includes Presentation Tube

Graham's 40 Years Old is made from wines of the very highest quality which, following careful selection, are matured in seasoned oak casks of until their peak of maturity is reached. These are among the most demanding and challenging styles of Port to produce requiring great skill and years of experience from the winemaker and blender. It is essential to strike the correct balance between the delicacy and elegance which results from prolonged cask ageing while retaining the fruit quality which lends this old Tawny its structure and longevity.

Golden amber with a pale green tinge at the rim which denotes great quality and class.

40 Year Old Kopke

40 Year Old Tawny Port
Includes Kopke Wooden Gift Box

***95 Points-cellartracker.com***

Kopke Port is the oldest port house. Established in 1638 by Nicolau Kopke and his son Cristiano, who came to Portugal as representatives of the Hanseatic League, the House has been run through the generations by several representatives of the Kopke family, obtaining an excellent reputation for its wines.

Reviews:
Dark tawny with orangey-red highlights. I wouldn't quite call it mahogany in colour, but it's close. Very dark, and lots of brown.
Nose: As is typical, lots of (to me) Madeira-like notes. Some leather, some dark aromatic wood like sandalwood, some apricot, and a bit of spirit.

40 Year Old Messias

Tawny Port

Very pale amber/tawny/orange colour. Fine and delicate aromas of hazelnuts and candied citrus. Quince marmalade character, delicate in style, with finesse and poise. Seemingly quite dry in style towards the finish (not as obviously rich as some here), and supremely refined.

Barolo, 1981

Vecchio Piemonte

Barolo is known as the 'king of wines' and is made from the Nebbiolo grape. Heady aromas of rose, leather, vanilla, cherry, pepper, cranberry, strawberry. Fruits are perfectly knitted with the tannins and acidity. It's a powerful wine but remarkably subtle. Don't underestimate it and certainly serve it with food to show at it's best. Nebbiolo has naturally high tannins and acidity, so it will take on full-flavoured, rich foods no problem at all.

Blandys Madeira, 1981

Malmsey Madeira 75cl BOTTLE
Includes Blandy's gift case

Reviews
Deep amber-red in colour; lifted, toasted and singed on the nose, really rather wonderful, this sings from the glass; gentle honeyed sweetness, super-concentrated mid-palate, so pure yet complex too with a toasty-savoury back drop, rich (100g/l residual sugar) but the acidity running through leads to a vibrant finish. Nothing soupy about this: wonderful precision and definition.
Score: 18.5 Richard Mayson, richardmayson.com, January 2019

For 200 years, Blandy’s Madeira has been synonymous with quality Madeira wine. The Blandy’s are unique in being the only family of all the original founders of the Madeira wine trade to still own and manage their own original wine company.

J W Hart, 1981

Colheita Single Harvest Port
Includes original carton gift box

Having spent at least seven and, in this case, a lot more years in cask, this beautiful 1981 colheita port from JW Hart is essentially a tawny port with a vintage date. On the nose it displays seductive marmalade, orange peel, citrus compote and quince jelly aromas. Luscious on the palate, although it has been bottled in 2013, this port shows great freshness with a lively acidity that balances the intensity of fruit beautifully. The flavours continue to evolve and alongside the jammy fruit aromas, caramel, allspice, walnuts and dried mushrooms emerge offering layers of complexity. The alcohol

Taylor's Port, 1981

Late Bottled Vintage Port

Late Bottled Vintage port is from a single year. The wine ages 4-6 years in old oak casks (opposed to Vintage that ages 2-3). LBV fills the gap between the rubies and the vintage ports since a Ruby Port should be drunk quite young and a great Vintage Port may need 15 to 20 years to really open up and show its splendour. This led to the idea in the 1960s to age the wine 4 to 6 years in large casks before bottling it.

LBV's display the style of a Vintage Port with its deep colour and concentration of fruit but with a more mature character caused by the longer ageing in wood.

Ryst-Dupeyon Armagnac, 1980

Ryst Dupeyron Reserve Joseph Millesime vintage Armagnac
50cl bottle

The 1980 Dupeyron Armagnac is the expression of a single year and has a unique character associated with the year and the cask in which it has been stored. These vintages are bottled at the alcohol level in which they naturally come out of the cask. There is a wonderful contrast between the sweet and sour flavours of wood, amplified by the strong alcoholic degree. Rich palate feeling the alcohol and the concentration of dry plums, spicy with persistent flavour of rancio and of spices, but round, soft and long in the finish. The tannins are very present, but full-bodied and round.

The Maison Ryst-Dupeyon was founded by Joseph Dupeyron in 1905.
