Chateau Tertre Roteboeuf, 1995

Saint Emilion Grand Cru

The 1995 Tertre Roteboeuf is a top quality wine from the very good 1995 vintage. It retains a youthful and fruity profile, reflective of the robust tannins characteristic of the 1995 vintage. A genuine delight, particularly when enjoyed alongside a meal.

Tasting Notes
This is the third vintage (1989 and 1990 were the other two) where Le Tertre-Roteboeuf exhibits a Le Pin-like exotic richness and opulence. The wine exhibits a dense ruby/purple color, and a compelling set of aromatics consisting of pain grille, ripe black cherry and cassis fruit, intermixed with truffles, mocha, and toffee.

Churchill's Port, 1995

Quinta do Agua Alta Vintage Port

Despite its thoroughly traditional-sounding name Churchill is the newest of the British-owned Port companies, founded in 1981 by J. Graham.

Quinta Agua Alta is named after the spring at the top of the vineyard and it produces wonderfully pure and fresh water that bubbles up through the granite rock below the thin top soil. Olives and figs grow in abundance around the vineyard which produces a quite stunninly powerful port.

Deep purple in colour with a mass of soft and concentrated fruit. There's plenty of tannin to give structure and a pleasing earthiness on the finish. This is the perfect way to round off a good dinner.

The 1995 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserva Quinta do Poço do Lobo is unoaked and comes in at 13.5% alcohol. This Reserva has more power than the regular reds and much riper fruit. It is bigger and fresher in every respect. Intense and powerful, this is nuanced by cassis and red fruits. It ends with a big finish. There are some typical nuances of aging Cab too. So, while it is fresh for its age, it hardly tastes like a young red. Many will consider that a good thing.

Please note that these are 9cl bottles (approximately one-eigth of a regular bottle).

The 1994 Quevedo Garrafeira Port is a rare and fascinating example of a traditional Portuguese style that bridges the gap between Vintage and Tawny Port. Crafted from a single harvest, it spent several years maturing in wood before being transferred to glass demijohns—where it aged slowly over decades, developing complex tertiary aromas and a distinctive freshness. Unlike Colheita Ports, which evolve in cask, Garrafeira Ports benefit from bottle-aging in glass, yielding a wine with purity of fruit, subtle oxidation, and unique character.

It is relatively easy to cultivate, although it is susceptible to fungal diseases. It ripens before Barbera and Nebbiolo and is often grown in high north-facing sites which would be unsuitable for Nebbiolo.
