Description
This 1965 La Cascina Barolo Riserva is a remarkable example of mature Nebbiolo from one of Piedmont’s great vintages. Over 50 years of careful cellaring have transformed its power into elegance, offering an authentic taste of Barolo’s past.
Aromas of history and terroir
The wine shows a classic brick-garnet hue with an orange rim, signalling maturity. The bouquet is an intricate weave of dried rose petals, cherry liqueur, tobacco leaf, leather, and autumn truffle, layered with hints of balsamic herbs and sweet spice. Each swirl of the glass releases another chapter of its history.
Palate — elegance over power
On the palate, the tannins have softened to a silky, almost suede texture, balanced by lively acidity that keeps the wine fresh. Flavours of dried red berries, cedar, and earthy mushroom linger into a long, savoury finish. This is a wine for quiet contemplation, where every sip reveals more depth.
Serving and presentation
Stand the bottle upright for 24–48 hours before serving to allow sediment to settle. Open carefully, using an Ah-So or Durand if the cork is fragile, and decant gently for no more than 20–30 minutes. Serve in large Burgundy stems at 17–18 °C to allow its delicate aromatics to shine.
Perfect milestone gift
1965 marks a 60-year anniversary in 2025, making this bottle not only a rare collectible but also a meaningful gift for birthdays, anniversaries, or wine lovers seeking a piece of vinous history. A beautiful way to celebrate a life or a love story six decades in the making.
