Description
1985 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano – Trerose (Tuscany, Italy)
A fully mature, classically styled Nobile that prizes perfume and finesse. Brick-garnet with a tawny rim, it lifts with dried cherry and amarena, rose petal and cedar, sweet tobacco and leather, with hints of orange peel, bay and black tea. Mid-weight and silken on the palate: lively, old-school acidity carries savoury red-cherry fruit, dried herbs and subtle balsamic notes; tannins are fine and resolved. The finish is long and tapering with cherry skin, cedar spice and dried flowers.
Producer note: Tenuta Trerose sits on Montepulciano’s south-eastern slopes, focusing on Prugnolo Gentile (Sangiovese) from breezy, well-drained soils; traditional élevage emphasises lift and elegance—well suited to graceful ageing, as shown here.
Serve: 16–18 °C. Stand upright 12–24 hours; very gentle decant for sediment just before pouring.
Food pairing: Roast pork with fennel, pappardelle al ragù, porcini risotto, aged pecorino.
