Volnay, 1934
Henri de Villament/Collection du Docteur Barolet, Burgundy
The finest and most elegant red wines of the Côte de Beaune are grown in Volnay, a village which might be twinned with Chambolle-Musigny in the Côte de Nuits, for the high active chalk content in the soil and comparatively low clay content. Whereas in earlier times Volnay was made in a particularly light, early drinking style, these days there are many producers making wines which age extremely well.

Haut Medoc 5me Cru Classe, Bordeaux
This Bordeaux has bags of fruit, tannin and acidity, all tied up in an impeccably-balanced, polished package. Sweet cassis fruit is accompanied by a spicy edge and a long, fresh lift. This is very pretty now but ideally wants another five years to really get going, and will easily keep for another five after that.

Domaines Barons De Rothschild (Lafite), 2006
Los Vascos Cabernet Sauvignon, Colchagua -Chile
I am delighted to say this was one of the best wines I have ever tasted. In the nose carried some ageing notes, but generally still familiar ripe pronounced Cabernet aromas and spiciness. On the palate, fascinatingly complex, layered fruit and spice, some jamminess but at the same time good acidity, full body, lots of tannin, long long length.

Chateauneuf du Pape, 2005
Domaine Vieux Telegraphe "La Crau", Rhone ***93 Points- Wine Cellar Insider***
It was Henri Brunier who gave birth to this beautiful family story in 1891, in the village of Bédarrides, well known today for holding the south-eastern part of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation. That year, he donated to his son Hippolyte, plots of land located on La Crau, a place considered at that time as uncultivable, so much so that the density of rolled pebbles made the soil ungrateful.
The latter planted his first vines on this dominant plateau, where the wine-growing vocation dates back to the 14th century and where in 1821, Claude Chappe, inventor of the optical telegraph, installed one of his relay towers. …

Chateau Lafite Rothschild, 2003
Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classé, Bordeaux
100 Points
Excellent provenance
The 2003 Lafite Rothschild comes as close to perfection as any of the great Lafites made over the past three decades (1982, 1986, 1996, 2000, 2005, 2008, 2009 and 2010). This sensational effort came in at 12.7% natural alcohol, it is made in the style of one of this estates great classics, the 1959. Chateau Latour, 2002
Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe
*** 96 Points - Robert Parker ***
Special Offer | Was £545 | Now £465
The wine of the vintage? There are only 10,000 cases of this extraordinarily rich, dense 2002 that is as powerful as the 2003 (even the alcohol levels are nearly the same, 12.85%) . It is dark ruby/purple to the rim, with notes of English walnuts, crushed rocks, black currants, and forest floor, dense, full-bodied, and opulent, yet classic with spectacular aromatics, marvelous purity, and a full-bodied finish that lasts just over 50+ seconds. Huge richness and the sweetness of the tannin are somewhat deceptive as this wine seems set for a long life. Administrator Frederic Engerer seems to be more pleased with what Latour achieved in 2002 than in any other recent vintage. …
